Or like how Smith told me, "HEY, look at all those moles!"
God... it’s not like I wasn't already aware my body is basically covered in them.

That's the whole issue. My torso and back are just peppered with moles—ever since I can remember.
I actually had one removed because it was driving me crazy, and now my plastic surgeon is telling me I need to get ten of them taken out?! WTF?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to disrespect his professional opinion, but I think I'll head to a dermatologist first to get a second look before I decide on any removals.

What have you guys been told about moles? Are the black ones dangerous? What about brown ones? Does size even matter?

For the record, I never go out in the sun, I don't do beach trips, and I've never stepped foot in a tanning salon in my life.

I'm covered in these red, brown, and dark brown spots—all sorts of shapes and sizes. Over the years, most of them have actually grown out; they used to be flat, but now they're like little bumps on my skin. The ones on my neck and back really bother me—especially this one right where my bra strap sits, which I’ve already scratched a hundred times. I haven't actually seen a dermatologist about them yet, though a few do worry me because they have these dark centers and uneven, lighter edges—the kind that are usually flagged as suspicious.
They're mostly considered dangerous if they have irregular shapes.
Anyway, I have an appointment with my doctor soon regarding a lump on my leg, so I might as well bring up my concerns about these moles while I'm there.
Unfortunately, my grandfather ended up with sarcoma from a mole on his chest—it looked perfectly normal and he'd had it since birth.

Now I’m actually starting to get a little worried. I have quite a few of them myself, but I’ve never felt the need to go see a doctor about it.

I had four moles removed about 20 days ago—three via laser and one surgically. There are five specific criteria used to evaluate a mole; if three or more indicators are present, removal is necessary. I don't recall every single metric, but they look at color, size, and shape. Generally, doctors also recommend removing any moles located in high-friction areas prone to irritation. I had one taken off right under my bra strap.

If your surgeon tells you to get ten removed, just wait until the dermatologist lists twenty. 😂
That was my experience, 😂😂 hands down.

When it comes to moles, you really have to watch everything. Every little shift can be a red flag. We're talking size, shape—especially those weird star-shaped edges—color, or if they start sticking out from the skin. Sure, moles grow as you age, but if you notice a sudden, obvious change, don't just shrug it off. A dermatologist is the pro you need to evaluate things. If they decide it needs to go, a surgeon handles the removal, and then a pathologist takes a look under the microscope to see if there’s anything pre-cancerous or malignant lurking in there.

Basically... if you're one of those people covered in moles, get yourself to a dermatologist regularly for checkups and actually follow their advice.

I think it goes without saying that you shouldn't blast your moles with UV rays... I mean, even a bird on a branch knows that much.

Also, any mole sitting in a high-friction spot—like where a bra strap sits or the waistband of your underwear—is probably worth getting removed. Same goes for any mole that gets irritated or changes after an accident, like a chemical burn, a sunburn, or even just bleeding after shaving.

I’ve dealt with tons of moles my entire life—it’s basically genetic for me. They show up all over my torso and back in every shape, size, and color imaginable. I’ve had one removed with a laser and two surgically... my dermatologist wants me to come in every six months to a year, but I usually just pop in once a year and everything seems fine. Now that I’m near the end of my pregnancy, they’ve all started changing so much... a ton of new ones popped up, some of my moles actually fell off, a bunch have swollen and darkened, and I even have a few red ones now. Plus, I’ve got that dark line running down my stomach, but honestly, I think that’s all totally normal. My doctor was only really worried about this one tiny little spot that looks a bit different, so I’ve already gone in twice for checkups and have to go back once the baby is two months old. I don't really tan much, but just a heads-up, my doctor says it's okay as long as you use SPF 50 that blocks everything
