Quick question about Google Earth?

So I just mapped out this three-stop route on Google Maps, and now I’m trying to get the whole thing over to Google Earth, but I’m hitting a total brick wall. I can't find a way to do it for the life of me.
There’s gotta be a workaround somewhere, right? There's no way it's actually impossible.
Anyone here know the trick to making this happen?

Google Maps:

1. Navigate to My Places -> Maps -> Select your specific map (route)
2. Click on "Open in My Maps"
3. Click the three dots next to the route name -> select "Export to KML/KMZ"
4. Choose your route from the dropdown menu -> click "Download"
5. Either Save it or select "Open in Google Earth"

(If you chose the Save option in step 5)

In Google Earth:

Google Earth : file -> open -> select the file you just saved
