Look, can I just get a permanent ban? Like, seriously, pretty please? (Assuming you guys aren't just nuking user accounts from orbit anymore anyway)

Thanks in advance

Look, you’re more than welcome to just stop showing up to this forum altogether if that's what you want
whether you decide to stick around or just disappear into the void is entirely on you, I don't care

So, why can't a user just delete their username?

Because they agreed to those terms when they signed up.

If someone gets hit with a permanent ban, does the account just get wiped after a while, or is it stuck here forever?

It stays "forever." (I put "forever" in quotes because obviously, an account isn't going to exist in, say, a thousand years. But there’s no master plan to wipe out permanently banned users. The accounts just stay active indefinitely.)

Give me a break, this whole thing is actually kind of hilarious... I tried asking to have my account deleted a while back, but clearly, the priority here is just padding the member count at any cost, right? I haven't encountered a single other forum where you don't even have the option to wipe your own profile, let alone still see your name popping up after getting banned... I really have to hand it to the professionals over at that massive warez site with millions of users; they actually know how to act, talking to people, helping out, or even asking nicely instead of just immediately throwing a red flag or a ban without saying a damn word... they somehow find the time for all that. Sorry to some of the mods on this site, but we've definitely got our share of power-tripping jerks, and maybe those guys should try showing a little humanity and professionalism once in a while—you might actually get noticed and headhunted for a real job that pays well. wrbhhh, don't go looking for yourself in my complaints.image

Gary Williams47, how exactly do you think that’s supposed to work?
I mean, you go through the trouble of dropping a few hundred or even a couple thousand posts, and then some moderator or admin just decides to hit the delete button, and what happens to everyone who actually sat there and had a conversation with you? It all just vanishes, doesn't it?

I don't even know where to start with this one—it’s just one of those days where everything feels a bit... off. You ever get that feeling? Like you're walking through a grocery store in some mid-sized Midwestern town and suddenly realizes everyone is just playing a part in a play they didn't audition for? Yeah. That's the vibe. It's exhausting, honestly. I'm sitting here staring at my screen, nursing a lukewarm coffee, wondering why we even bother trying to make sense of things when the whole system feels like it was built out of cardboard and prayer. Anyway, just venting. Life goes on, I guess. kaže:
Can I get a permanent ban, pretty please? — assuming you guys aren't just wiping user accounts off the map altogether.

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't it be a hell of a lot easier to just decide you're done with this forum instead of making such a massive, public spectacle out of demanding a ban? 🙂

Look, if you seriously can't help yourself—if you just have to get that last word in or leave some snarky comment—there’s an easy way to handle it. Just head into your account settings, swap out your email for some fake address that doesn't exist, change your password to something totally random, and then go grab a coffee, head to work, or take a road trip. By the time you decide to come back, you won't remember the password, and since the email is bogus, you won't be able to reset it anyway. And just like that? You've effectively banned yourself. Simple as that. 🙂

So you churn out a few hundred or maybe even a couple thousand posts and then some mod or admin just nukes them, but what happens to everyone who actually had a conversation with you??

From what I've gathered from lurking elsewhere, the posts usually stick around because they're considered irrelevant, but the username field just goes blank since the guy doesn't exist anymore... and when someone tries to quote him, it just shows up as a generic "quote" instead of "Gary Williams47 quote"... how am I supposed to fix that if I don't know how?....just go find a heavy-duty torrent site or some shady warez board and ask the people there... or even if Gary Williams47's name stays on the posts, once you click it, it tells you the user no longer exists... look at a site like Medium, for example, where all the blogs and comments from a deleted user stay put even though their profile is gone....there's no shame in asking a question.

So, what’s actually the big difference for you if you just decide to stop hanging out on this forum altogether?
The only real upside I can see here is that you might finally free up a username for someone else to use.

For crying out loud... just put your birth year in there already because you’re making me nervous... what if someone actually recognizes me and decides to slide into my wife's DMs like, "Hey, I know this jerk, let me tell your spouse what a piece of work you are"? Between the profile info and the private messages, there's no denying it's really me, you know? And if I suddenly go dark and vanish from the grid, what the hell are you gonna prove based on some old comments or posts anyway? Use some common sense for once and act like a friend instead of an idiot, for God's sake.

hahahahhahahahhahaha
and honestly, that’s about as world-class an explanation as you’re gonna get, I mean, what even is--
🙂
people with half a brain cell know exactly why PMing exists
😉

but seriously, the site policy is pretty set in stone regarding profiles not being deleted, so there isn't much I can do about it either

Gary Williams47 said:Man, seriously... just put your birth year in there or something, you’re actually starting to worry me. What if someone recognizes me and decides to track down my wife? They could send me some nasty DM like, "Hey, I know exactly who you are," and then blow up her inbox. Between the profile and the private messages, it wouldn't take much for them to figure out it's really me. And if I have to pull a disappearing act and delete everything overnight—well, good luck trying to prove who I was based on a bunch of old comments and posts. Just use a little common sense here and try being a decent human being for once.

You kind of have to be a special breed for that to happen, but I guess anything is possible. I had a buddy selling a phone—something pretty high-end and hard to find—and he left his number for contact. I ended up spotting it by accident since he'd already asked if I was interested in buying it. So, I started digging through his other comments, and I see him posting about this rare, expensive car he owns. Then I look at his other stuff, and it’s just a total mess—everything from "I think I'm falling for my friend's girlfriend" to "I need to see a therapist," plus all those weirdly graphic complaints about his sex life. It's a disaster.😁

Or if someone starts stalking you, like they're doing to me. 😱

I’d want to delete my account too. Since that isn't an option, is there any way to adjust my settings so nobody can track me? Not even other users? I need to be able to say goodbye to my lovely Megan Hill13 and, if I ever get the urge to come back (and I love this place, honestly—it's been my main digital hangout and I've had a blast... even with all my trolling 😍), register under a completely different handle. Given that this is straight-up harassment and a violation of both my digital and real-world privacy, I’m seriously asking for help. Please don't start with the "the internet isn't private" lecture. Trust me, I know. But when people start weaponizing that to target individuals, it becomes an attack on basic human rights.

I’d want my account nuked too, honestly. But since that’s apparently off the table, is there any way to tweak the settings so nobody can track me? Not even other users on this board? I’m looking to bail on my dear Megan Hill13 and if the itch ever comes back to visit this place again (and look, I love it here, damn it—this site was basically my first digital life and I had a blast 😍), I want to be able to sign up under a totally different handle. Given that we’re talking about straight-up stalking and an invasion of both my online and actual private life, I’m seriously asking for some help here. And please, don't come at me with that "the internet isn't private" lecture. As if I haven't figured that out already. But when people start weaponizing that fact, it turns into a direct hit on basic human rights, doesn't it?

Joshua Martinez7 said:You’ve gotta be something special to pull that off, but honestly, I shouldn't have been surprised when it went down... a buddy of mine was trying to flip this high-end, pretty rare smartphone, and he left his number for inquiries, which I just happened to stumble upon since he'd already asked if I was interested in buying it. So, naturally, I start digging through his other comments and see him posting about this vintage luxury car he owns—another pricey, hard-to-find beast—but then I dive deeper into his post history and it's just a total train wreck of absolute madness, everything from "I think I'm in love with my best friend's girlfriend" to "I need to go to a psych ward," plus all the usual pathetic stuff about girls turning him down or him being too frustrated to function. 😁

So you seeing what I mean now, hollowtrucker77? People will come up with a million excuses, and for them, those excuses are more than enough to justify their behavior... but for people like you, it's a massive red flag. Why don't you go file a formal complaint with the site admins, and if the moderator happens to be a guy, maybe try having a real, adult conversation with him instead of acting out... might actually do you some good one of these days.

Yeah, true. But there’s also my post history to consider. I mean, I know anyone can look at it, and honestly, let them. But when I’m aware that one specific person is digging through everything with a clear motive, it just feels a bit off.

I'm pretty damn sure the admin is going to see eye to eye with me on this one.
😉

And besides, his reasoning is solid as a rock, which isn't exactly news to anyone paying attention.

So... yeah... I just found out this week that someone actually went and shared my real-life identity with quite a few people offline. Now I’m stuck dealing with the fact that my anonymity on here is basically gone... which, honestly, really stings. It matters to me—I mean, isn't the whole point of internet forums and virtual communities supposed to be about that layer of privacy? Being able to speak freely without people from my daily life connecting the dots? But hey, I guess there's no blaming anyone now, right?😉I truly don't get why there isn't even a basic option to just delete a profile... it shouldn't be some impossible feat of high-level engineering to build a simple "delete" button, you know?🙄

I finally went ahead and opened this new account... but man, I'm still feeling pretty uneasy about my old post history. Why does every single registered user have access to all that? It’s honestly so frustrating.😠
