Besides, silver isn't always about losing a final—think track, swimming, gymnastics, skiing, or cycling. But I assume you mean team sports.

At first, I think anyone would feel a bit stung by taking silver when gold was right there within reach. The same goes for bronze and silver. But looking back after some time, you realize how much to be happy about either one. Generally speaking, if you're in second or third place, you still have a clear goal to chase... whereas being number one means everyone is gunning for your spot. The competition is just relentless when you're at the top.

It all really just boils down to the numbers
silver=2
bronze=3
and since 2 comes before 3, I’m taking silver—even if it means grinding my way there through a loss in the finals
at the end of the day, I'm still better than whoever's walking away with bronze, and you should always be aiming for the top tier 😁

Losing always sucks, no matter when it happens. The bronze medalists left the field disappointed yesterday, and the silver medalists will be just as disappointed tomorrow.

But to grab silver, you have to win the semifinal. You have to be a step above the guys fighting for third place. That’s why silver carries more weight.
Besides, look at France back in '98. What would we give if we hadn't lost and actually played in the big World Cup final? (Man, it still stings thinking about how we were basically in the final for a minute before that one lost ball changed everything...😢)

When you talk about that final feeling, aren't you thinking that winning silver just leaves you feeling disappointed and sad about losing? To me, that sadness comes first, then the satisfaction follows.

That sense of achievement for the "silver medalist" kicks in right after they win the match that gets them to the finals. They already secured bronze, they secured silver, and now they're chasing more.
The loser is left with an extra day of anxiety, worrying they might even miss out on bronze. It’s because they didn't push hard enough to reach the finals (or maybe they did give it their all, but it still wasn't enough), whereas the silver medalist was the one who actually put in the work in that moment.
