Dammit, this got moved to miscellaneous...
Yeah, sure, some admin just swooped in (definitely not Nica, I'd bet my life on it—call it a summary judgment handed down by a sister in The Hague) and moved the thread. This happened despite my explicit request that she be the one to decide, and my very strict plea for them to stay out of it. Okay, fine, I opened it under General Interest, so they’ll probably blame me first and get annoyed that I gave them such a massive headache on Christmas Eve. But I don't think that's a big deal. Besides, where else are you supposed to open threads that don't fit any specific subforum?

But there's something else I want to know. How did our "esteemed" admin decide that this thread belongs in miscellaneous? I really want to understand the thought process. What kind of logic dictates that a topic like this deserves that specific corner? I'm pretty sure the starting point was just the title itself, and this whole move perfectly demonstrates the modus operandi used to moderate and run this forum. It seems the pattern is simple: if you happen to disagree with someone on any given topic, they treat you like second-class citizens and dismiss you as an idiot, even when the thread has nothing to do with a clash of opinions.

Sorry, but I just don't see the logic. Most people—myself included—feel this topic falls under intangible cultural heritage. That puts it closest to the social sciences since it touches on several of them. Yet, somehow, it gets lumped into miscellaneous along with people begging for Facebook giveaway entries, asking about free samples at Walgreens or Cosmo, or looking for where to buy an electric blanket.

I'm genuinely curious about the reasoning behind moving this. Was the initial thought just, "Oh, look, it's some right-wing firebrand opening a thread"? Because I can't believe the admin is shallow enough to dump a thread there just because their own education or intelligence prevents them from actually thinking through a better decision. If they had taken even a second to reflect, they would have moved it to five other subforums instead of sticking it in the section for animal pictures.

And here is the most important part: this kind of administration actively harms the forum. This thread has potential in almost any other section. Moderating and managing things so that you can't rise above your own intolerance toward certain people is ugly, but more importantly, it's damaging to the community. And this situation is the perfect example of that.

So, please, either move this thread to a subforum where it actually belongs or just delete it entirely. Because right now, having it where it is is like putting a turbocharger in the trunk of a car...

I didn't know where to put it until some people smarter than me pointed it out. I posted it here because I figured the admins—the folks who actually run the show—would be the ones to make a call on such a minor detail. And yeah, they can make the call, but that doesn't mean their decisions are always the best ones.

Let me flip the question back at you regarding starting threads: where exactly does the Thinka happen? Where do we brainstorm about topics and where they belong?
Where are the calls made on what a topic is and which corner of the site it belongs in?

Personally, I actually enjoyed having my doubts about this thread. One girl explained exactly where it should go and why, so now I’m just a tiny bit smarter. I used this forum for fun and to learn, and now I'm a slightly more enlightened, primitive caveman.

Maybe you should climb down from your ivory tower and show some gratitude to the people seeking your help. It might do wonders for your ego. People who haven't let their delusions mess with their common sense usually find that pretty helpful.
