South by Southwest 2012

Thanks to our amazing festival sponsors and some incredible support from the City of Savannah—honestly, they really stepped up—the ticket prices for the main stage are staying exactly the same as last year! It’s a relief, really—keeps things accessible. A single day pass will go for $10, the full weekend pass (Friday through Sunday) is $20, and the all-access festival pass is $50. You can grab them starting next week, and here’s a little tip: if you snag yours between June 15th and July 15th, you’ll score an extra 30% discount. That means the festival pass drops to just $35, and the weekend pass will be only 42 bucks.

As for the other stages down at Times Square and along the Boardwalk—those are totally free! 🙂

P.S.—so, I was thinking earlier—after seeing how absolutely killer the lineup was at South by Southwest last year, I actually worried we might see a bit of a dip this season. But honestly? I think it’s going to be just as fantastic for my beloved Savannah.

I have such a soft spot for South by Southwest—honestly, I’d travel all the way to VZ just to experience it—and I’m really hoping I can manage to swing by for a quick two-day stint again this year. It would be a dream if I could somehow cross paths with the Breakers or the Cowboys... though, if that doesn't pan out, I suppose seeing the Molesters or Rambo would be a decent consolation prize. That said, looking at the schedule, it seems almost physically impossible to make all those sets work timing-wise. I guess I'll just have to get creative and try to engineer some kind of miracle. 🙂

What’s the deal with accommodations? Is there going to be some kind of campsite set up, or if not, where can one find somewhere relatively inexpensive to stay for two or three nights?

I’m also curious about the lodging situation! I recall there being some sort of campsite somewhere last year, but I can't quite place it. Does anyone know if there are any budget-friendly hostels or similar options in VZ? help,help😁

Regarding where to crash while you're visiting Savannah—you've got plenty of options to choose from!

1. The Hilton (3 stars ***) — easily the largest hotel in the area.
2. The California (4 stars ****) — this one is practically right in the heart of the city; you're literally a 20-second stroll from the Boardwalk (I mean it!).
3. The Savannah Hotel (3 stars ***) — located near the train station; it’s got a really nice exterior and feels relatively modern.
4. The Student Hostel — now, if you're looking to save some cash, this seems like a pretty budget-friendly way to go. It's also near the train station, so you can just walk to the center in a few minutes.
5. The B&B — a lovely, well-kept spot ( ) which is just a quick 5-minute walk from downtown.

I’ve never actually made it out to South by Southwest, but this lineup looks absolutely stellar.
Even though I find myself obsessively refreshing their official site and Facebook page every other day—basically nursing a digital fever at this point—it turns out none of my friends are down or available to go, so I guess I'll just have to sit this one out. :/

Does anyone happen to know if tickets are strictly sold through Ticketmaster, or will there be a physical box office in VZ right before the show? Or perhaps somewhere in NYC? I'm asking because I know some folks just don't use credit cards for these things.🙂

You’ve got a sales booth right out on the Boardwalk—plus, there's another one positioned at the entrance to Old Town too!

So, if it's happening in Times Square, I assume it's free?
