I couldn't find a specific thread about this movie while digging through the PDFs, so I figured it was about time we started one, right? 😁



So, basically, we're looking at a biographical drama about Steve Jobs , covering the life of the Apple founder, Steve Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher in the lead role. The film hit theaters here in the States yesterday and is set to make its way to local US cinemas on September 12th.

The story follows Jobs from his college days all the way up to the big reveal of the iPod back in 2001. Along with Kutcher, the cast features Josh Gad (playing Steve Wozniak), Dermot Mulroney, Matthew Modine, Lesley Anne Warren, J. K. Simmons (who looks totally ridiculous with that blunt look in the trailer 😬—honestly, it feels super unconvincing after seeing him play that neo-Nazi leader in Oz), and James Woods.

The film is directed by Joshua Michael Stern and written by Matt Whiteley.

I hear Ashton Kutcher was pretty terrible, and honestly, looking at his rating doesn't exactly give me much of a thrill... 😳

Great story, but honestly, the casting and directing were pretty bad 😁 such a shame.

I can already see the itardovacs pushing to catch this movie later while trash-talking all over the forums.

The second I saw that "original innovator" tag on the trailer, I knew exactly which way this was heading.

It’s been a while since I sat down to watch Pirates of Silicon Valley, but honestly, it wasn't half bad.
I actually found the way they portrayed his dynamic with Bill Gates quite compelling.
It really makes me wonder, though—do they dive into how he was tripping on LSD back in his younger days? 😁

I honestly have a feeling this is going to be the absolute biggest piece of nonsense released all year....
Of course, the die-hard fans of Đobz are going to jump all over this movie, probably grabbing it in high definition just so they can watch it on their Ajdfon 59, but if you ask me, the whole thing is really just there to milk money off the brand name... which, I guess, is how most of these biopic movies work anyway...

Caught it last night by accident. It’s not a disaster, but it’s not exactly great either. Ashton Kutcher is pretty much what I expected—kind of plastic. But honestly, his look and how much he resembles Steve Jobs gives him just enough authenticity to make it watchable. I’m no Apple or Steve Jobs expert, mind you; I just read the biography and watched Pirates of Silicon Valley a few years back (which I actually liked better). I didn't spot any massive historical or conceptual blunders. The movie tried to tackle both sides of Steve Jobs—the visionary versus the maniac—and it kind of pulled it off. Well, as much as Kutcher's acting allowed. Even Woz wasn't quite right for me. The actor isn't bad, but the character felt a bit fake—maybe too patronizing? Like he was being played for sympathy? The rest of the cast was solid, though; John Sculley (Matthew Modine), the rock star vibes (J. K. Simmons), Mike Markkula, the Mac team... Everything really falls apart with Jony Ive. The casting, the acting, even the dialogue feels pretty hollow there.

The soundtrack was a total letdown for me. I was expecting plenty of Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and other hits from that era. And where was Joan Baez? Besides, if my memory serves me right, the trailer had more scenes from that early period than the actual movie did...

And yeah, there are some tripping scenes. Pretty uninspired and nothing to write home about.

If I had to pick one thing besides the music, the biggest flaw was the lack of focus on the technology itself. In real life, Steve Jobs' greatest legacy was his products, but here they just feel like random gadgets. Plus, there's almost nothing mentioned about NeXT or Pixar...

Not great. Ashton Kutcher felt pretty flat and unconvincing here—nothing to write home about. But honestly, the script was the bigger mess; it just jumps wildly from one stage of Steve Jobs' life to the next without any real connective tissue. All in all, this feels like a massive missed opportunity because the late Steve Jobs was such a fascinating guy who deserved way more than this mediocre flick.

I guess it might be better to just watch that documentary about Steve Jobs they released after he passed away.

I mean, I think Ashton Kutcher did a pretty good job, but they totally skipped over the most interesting parts of Steve Jobs' career. They left out the whole origin story of Pixar and the work on Toy Story, plus they completely ignored the era of the iPod, iPhone, and iPad—and honestly, they made Steve Jobs seem way too soft.

So, I just ended up watching it the other day on a whim... It was alright by me since I didn't know much about Steve Jobs beyond him being the big boss at Apple... so the movie was just fine...

And honestly, all that bashing of Ashton Kutcher 🤷? I actually liked it. He did such a great job capturing his gait, those little gestures and everything... He really played the part well enough...

The thing is, the movie has a lot of holes. Personally, I think they should've covered a specific era instead of this rushed plot that leaves you with so many questions. At least for me, it felt like suddenly 🤷

Anyway, it's not a bad flick to watch...😁

I haven't actually sat down to watch the movie yet 😛 but man, I was basically forced to sit through that trailer about six or seven times in a row before anything else even started playing at the theater. Honestly, if I have to listen to that pretentious, hipster-style music from the trailer one more single time, someone is going to bleed 😁 so from now on, I am definitely walking into the auditorium ten minutes after the "show" supposedly starts ☕

As much as it feels almost tragicomic to mention that hack Ashton Kutcher as an actor, I honestly think this might be his best "role" ever! Let’s be real, he’s just a bit of a loser with zero acting range, but he actually managed to play being a bad actor better than anyone else here. The movie itself is decent enough if you don't focus too much on Ashton Kutcher, especially since there's a solid supporting cast to lean on!

I felt the exact same way. We all know the standard Apple origin story—the whole "Apple spirit," the Macintosh, the clash with the guy from Pepsi... honestly, it felt like someone just took my old computer science textbooks and projected them onto a giant screen.

The truly compelling stuff—that stretch from 2000 to now, when he actually fundamentally changed how the world functions—was completely ignored.

And the pacing? It’s just a series of disjointed scenes jumping around without any real flow. It feels like a script where someone just highlighted the key phrases with a marker and called it a movie...

To be honest, Ashton Kutcher didn't really make the movie. It was just mediocre; there are plenty of other documentaries on this subject that did a much better job. I wasn't impressed, nor did I learn anything new. Just kind of pointless 4/10

They didn't even touch upon the most compelling parts of his life, let alone the actual material that would make for a great movie. Instead, half the film is just endless meetings and corporate backstabbing. Who cares about what it looked like while he was out pulling carrots from his garden? WTF!
What I actually wanted to see was his struggle to get his life back on track, chase his dreams, and mend things with his kids...

Look, we all know Pirates of Silicon Valley is packed with inaccuracies and doesn't exactly present a perfect historical record, but I honestly didn't expect it to be any better than this.

I watched this movie and it was honestly a disaster.
