Since you all seem to love documentaries...

This one absolutely floored me—total masterpiece. For a lot of people I know, it’s officially "no more Big Mac" 🙂

Yeah, I actually just watched it about two weeks ago. My plan is simple: I’m going to be avoiding anything from McDonald's even more than I already do... 😁 But honestly, the funniest part was how the kids didn't even recognize Jesus, yet they totally clocked Ronald McDonald. There was this one kid at that specialized school for troubled kids—you know, the one that serves all healthy food?—who was playing billiards wearing a Dead Kennedys shirt. 😁

The editing and direction were honestly quite disappointing—it really had the potential to be so much more.
It felt a bit rushed given that there are distinct chapters, so wouldn't it have been better if the content had been paced more thoughtfully?
You almost find yourself wondering if they failed to recognize Jesus; certain elements feel incredibly overblown (for instance, those sudden, sharp bouts of chest pain occurring immediately after he eats something from McDonald's 🙄)

And goodness, I would be absolutely mortified to publicly acknowledge that she was his partner—the woman is just incredibly grating and goes entirely overboard... I mean, when she claims their sex life has plummeted since he started eating at McDonald's because he tires out so easily, isn't that just reaching way too far!!!!

Honestly, just how much can one person exaggerate???

And then, to actually compare eating meat to using heroin?

Ugh, give it a rest!

It’s alright—but calling it "great" is a stretch... it just isn't quite there.

Look, my girlfriend is being seriously obnoxious... 😁 but as for the hype, I just don't buy it. The concept is solid and the execution is great. It’s not groundbreaking, but it works.

Has anyone who spent time in Napa Valley had the chance to compare Super Size Me with that absolutely BRILLIANT documentary, The Czech Dream?
It feels as though Super Size Me is simply trying to hide behind its own reputation.

Casey Baker2, have you perhaps become an apprentice to Antonio Banderas?! 😁

It seems to me that you both employ the exact same promotional tactics!

Regardless, I shall see you at the Sundance Film Festival!

I feel like the whole movie completely ignores—whether by design or just sheer ignorance—the issue of hormone additives in livestock feed, which is used to speed up fattening specifically here in the USA (whereas over in Europe, they tend to rely more on antibiotics in their feed)

So, my take is that it isn't even really about the calories... I mean, eating three sandwiches a day isn't much for an adult anyway... it's more about those growth hormones in the meat.

What are your thoughts on this?

Even though the title pretty much spoils the whole plot, I still found the movie super engaging. As for the stuff about using antibiotics and hormones to fatten up cattle—honestly, I feel like that’s more of a public health issue than anything else...

Yeah, this topic leans more toward "wellness"...

But no matter how you slice it, food—and diet in general—is pure chemistry. In chemistry, it’s never really about the substance itself, but rather the dosage. Even water can be toxic if you consume it in massive quantities... 🙄

"The particular work" isn't bad, I suppose. Personally, what struck me most was that one order of fries that stayed perfectly intact even after more than eight weeks—now that's quite a show!

This one totally wrecked me—in the best way possible! It was amazing. But honestly? No more Big Mac for a lot of people I know after seeing this. 🙂

Bollocks.
I haven't watched the movie yet, but from what I've heard, the guy basically just lives at McDonald's for a few weeks straight.
Great.
Bravo.

It’s pretty funny how it doesn't actually prove anything other than the fact that a crappy diet can wreck your health—whether it's McDonald's or that "healthy" organic plant crap Mavrovic grows on his farm.

I haven't sat down to watch the movie yet, but from what I gather, the premise is just some guy gorging himself on McDonald's for a few weeks straight.
Great.
Bravo.

It’s truly remarkable how this manages to demonstrate nothing other than the obvious fact that a lack of dietary variety can wreck your health—whether you're eating at McDonald's or choking down that organic plant garbage Mavrovic grows on his farm.

Exactly. 👍
It’s such a shallow attempt at storytelling.
How much common sense does one need to possess to realize that eating the exact same thing every single day is going to take a toll on your body, even without some "super-intelligent" documentary pointing it out?
He could have just made a movie about how he felt like crap because he spent every day eating at a local bakery 🙄 only to gain twenty pounds and develop heart issues, eventually concluding that sweets will kill you and contain various chemicals.
It’s staggering how much nonsense can be sold to people these days.
And at least half of the self-righteous critics 😁 who lecture us about McDonald's food are probably out there lighting up cigarettes constantly, yet they won't step foot in a McDonald's because it's supposedly "gross." Apparently, tobacco companies are all saints, right? 🙄
As if McDonald's is the only entity driven by profit, while everyone else is just a group of selfless Samaritans working for the greater good. 😂

The real beauty here is how this thing fails to prove anything other than the obvious: a lack of dietary variety will wreck your health—whether you're hitting up McDonald's or eating that organic plant garbage Mavrovic grows on his farm.

F OFF 😁

He hasn't even seen it, yet he's already jumping to conclusions. Typical. First thing out of his mouth is "bollocks."
This thread is in the Movies subforum, not the Food section.

Who the hell is Mavrovic???

Super Size Me is just hiding behind that

🙏 🙏 🙏 I was there, saw it, hit the floor. A shopping mall catalog is right next to me, thinking about framing it. 😁 🙂

Goldberry, I think I’ll be skipping your movie recommendations from now on—you’re way too critical😁

Personally, I wouldn't dare be that harsh on a piece of work that basically belongs to an entirely new genre. I call it a docudrama😁
And if we group him together with directors like Moore under the same umbrella, you could easily label it a documentary-anti-advertisement😁

As for those people who are absolutely horrified by the concept of the movie—there’s a very specific reason for that reaction, which is laid out right at the very beginning of the film.

Bottom line: I liked the movie, and I definitely recommend it🙂

The movie is alright... more interesting as a trend than anything else.
(Probably only shocking to Americans, though... :-)
