Hello everyone. I have a question for the group. For the past year, I have been dealing with a recurring ingrown hair near my tailbone. It has been quite a struggle. I spent a full year seeing a general practitioner who tried her best to fix it. During that entire year, she was only able to successfully extract one single hair follicle. After that, nothing worked. The area just keeps getting inflamed and draining pus. Last week, she finally gave me a referral to a surgeon, so I went in to see him. He told me I need surgery. 🙄
To be honest, I had certain expectations. I assumed this would be a minor outpatient procedure, similar to a quick minor surgery I once had. I thought they would just give me a local injection, clean out the affected area, stitch it up, and send me on my way. However, I later realized this is a legitimate surgical procedure requiring anesthesia. They handed me a mountain of lab tests to complete and a stack of forms to sign. 😱
My appointment with the anesthesiologist is set for December 17th, and the hospital date is December 21st. I am wondering what the actual process looks like from here. 🤷
When I show up to the anesthesiologist with all my test results, if everything checks out, do I simply wait until the 21st to return to the hospital? 🤷
Also, does the surgery happen on the same day as admission, or is it the following day? Will I be staying overnight at the hospital, and what is the standard protocol right before the operation begins? One more thing—do I need to handle any shaving myself, or does a nurse take care of that? 😁
Will I be given any medication before being wheeled into the operating room? And will I be completely naked during the procedure? 😁
Once it's over, where do I wake up? Do they wake me up in the operating room, or do I wake up in a recovery room? How long does the anesthesia typically leave you feeling groggy or unsteady? 😁
Should I plan on staying in the hospital for a day or two, or is there a chance they might discharge me immediately? 😛
Thank you! 🙂
