So, here’s the deal... last night I started feeling this slight ache in my right testicle. I figured it would just go away overnight, but it hasn't. It isn't some massive, agonizing pain—it’s more like a dull, barely noticeable discomfort—but it definitely has me a little worried. It really flares up when I, say, stand up from a chair or put any sudden strain on my right leg. That’s the gist of it. Later on, I tried doing a self-exam. I didn't feel any lumps, but I have this nagging feeling that the right side looks larger than the left. Honestly, I can't be 100% sure, but it feels thicker, even if the length seems the same. Is there any reason to be concerned?

You should probably head over to a urologist as soon as you can. They'll be able to give you a definitive answer on what's actually going on. It could just be some minor inflammation, or if those veins in the scrotum are enlarged, it might be a varicocele—which isn't anything to too worry about...

If it’s swollen, it really could be a varicocele (though about 90% of the time, it shows up on the left side)

The surgery itself only takes about 10 minutes... but fair warning, you'll probably have some abdominal soreness for a few days whenever you laugh, cough, or strain too hard :-)

Just go see your primary care doctor; they'll get you set up with a referral for the next steps.

Honestly, I’m not even sure if it actually increased... if it did, the change is so subtle I’d probably never notice it drawing any attention. I think I'll just wait out a few days, and if things don't improve, I'll head to the doctor. But there's always a massive line at the clinic, sometimes hours long, and I really don't feel like wasting my time sitting in a waiting room for nothing.

Look, a varicocele doesn't even have to be enlarged or painful to cause issues with your testicles.
You really need to go see a urologist; please don't just brush this off...

I dealt with bilateral inguinal hernias... It happens when a certain membrane fails to fully close up during fetal development while you're still in the womb. About four years ago, I underwent surgery on my left side, and then followed that up with a procedure on the right about two or three years later. The initial warning signs were an incredibly intense, unbearable pain followed by the discovery of a small, roughly 4mm lump.

It’s already in the past... nothing today either... Honestly, I think I was just struggling mentally more than anything else. I did a little reading on it and realized I was just overthinking things. It definitely hurt, but from what I can gather now, there could be a million different reasons for why it happened. Thanks a lot

It’s totally normal for one to be bigger than the other, and usually, it's the left side. It just comes down to blood vessels—the left one typically gets fed by a thicker vein, so it gets more blood flow and basically "eats" better.

Also, if you're actually in pain and it isn't some known chronic thing, please just go see a doctor instead of hitting up a forum to ask why you're hurting (when you already know you are). I mean, it's your health, you know?

A buddy of mine was diagnosed with a tumor once. He’s perfectly fine today, but he went through hell. Just go get checked out; it won't cost you a thing.😘

Just looking for some info here... if someone develops a varicocele, does it actually affect urination or cause impotence? Like, does it create that constant urge to run to the restroom... specifically regarding bladder control?
Thanks for any insight!!

Best,
