I couldn't catch any sleep last night, so I ended up watching The Forbidden Kingdom, this action-fantasy spectacle starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li (it's actually the first time we've seen them sharing the screen like this). Honestly, it’s a pretty solid flick. That kid acting alongside Jet Li and Chan is actually great—not bad at all, really. Plus, the visual effects are top-tier throughout the movie.

There are plenty of funny bits, especially with Chan's character; since he's an immortal, he basically has to stay drunk constantly because wine acts as his elixir 😁 The most Impressive scene has to be when the crew is trekking through the desert and Li challenges Chan to use his immortality to make it rain. So, Chan starts messing around with some ancient scroll, trying to summon the rain, and suddenly, out of nowhere, it actually starts drizzling. A moment later, you see Li just peeing on Chan from a rock. 😁

It was also a cool touch when the kid brings up Bruce Lee, and these two guys have absolutely no clue who he is. Also, the opening sequence has a bit of a Monty Python vibe to it, packed with those classic Bruce Lee moments. 😁

To wrap things up, the movie features two really stunning actresses: Yifei Liu and Bingbing Li (if you're curious about what they look like, just give Google a quick search 😁)

I’ve been staring at this movie for two weeks now—stuck in that constant loop of "should I or shouldn't I" regarding downloading it—but after reading about this specific scene, I simply have to. 🙏

I gotta admit, the fourth installment feels a bit forced. A lot of people hyped this one up, and the reviews were mostly decent—sitting at a solid 7.2 on IMDb—but I walked away feeling... meh. Not disappointed, just not nearly as blown away as everyone else seems to be. Maybe my expectations were just too high, who knows? Honestly, if you didn't have two massive martial arts icons like Jackie Chan and Jet Li carrying the whole thing, this movie would’ve flopped hard and been totally ignored by critics and audiences alike. For a fun, straightforward martial arts fantasy, it doesn't really do anything groundbreaking outside of those two leads. In my book, something like "Hero", "Fearless", or "The Legend of Drunken Master" is way better than "Kingdom". The fights are fine, but they aren't legendary. Even the showdown between Li and Chan doesn't touch the greatness of the Norris and Lee fight in "Way of the Dragon" or that Roddy Piper and Keith David clash in "They Live".
That said, both Chan and Li are great to watch. The kid is a little annoying, but he's tolerable, the plot is easy to follow, and the visuals look sharp. It works as a solid one-time watch. Not bad.
