The Day of the Beast

So, "Day of the Beast" or "The Day of the Beast", TUESDAY, 12:40 AM, on the first PBS channel. It's an Al Pacino film—not a masterpiece, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Don't come crying later saying, "We didn't know," or "When did that air on TV?" 😬

A horror / fantasy comedy. After years spent digging through religious texts and the Book of Revelation by St. John, a Catholic priest named Angel Berriartúa concludes that humanity is facing total ruin because the Antichrist is set to be born on Christmas Day somewhere in Madrid. Not knowing exactly what or where he's looking for, Father Angel heads to the Spanish capital, where the streets are already ruled by chaos and violence—clear omens of the coming cataclysm. While searching for signs to pinpoint the time and place of the unholy birth, Father Angel meets a series of bizarre Madrid locals who decide to help him in his mission to destroy Satan: a violent heavy metal fanatic named José María, then a popular TV host and parapsychologist named Professor Cavan, a boarding house owner named Rosario, a girl named Mina who's obsessed with television, and the beautiful Susan, who seems to attract trouble wherever she goes...

A classic: NPR is airing an interesting flick. When? Around 12:30 AM. What a shame.

Actually, I caught bits of it while traveling through the Midwest, and it was... alright. It isn't exactly life-changing, but it’s decent enough.

Whatever, it isn't exactly "Citizen Kane" 😬 but it’s still a blast. If I recall correctly, the pacing was a total mess, but it’s still fun to watch. 👍

I’d probably still watch it myself, simply because I have nothing better to do. Though, there's a high probability I'd drift off halfway through. Besides, the idea of recording movies is a nightmare for me; my process usually looks something like this:
1. Dammit! I need a blank tape if I want to record this movie tonight! Forget it, I'll just rewind this one so I can watch it tomorrow.
2. Actually, I don't need to watch it right this second—that's the whole reason I recorded it on video!
3. I know I recorded the movie on some tape somewhere, but good grief, I can't remember which one.
4. <a month or three passes>
5. Dammit! I need a blank tape if I want to record this movie tonight! Forget it, I'll just rewind this one so I can watch it tomorrow.

Anyway, I finally got around to watching "The Third Man" starring Orson Welles. I think I actually recorded that back in December 2001. 😬

In my estimation, that particular film stands as one of the absolute finest 😍

. It was about two years late to the party for me, though—it showed up at the local film archive instead!

I've been counting down the minutes since I saw the trailer for this one. Less than 24 and a half hours to go...😵 I have a soft spot for those wild flicks like Neighbor and Perdita Durango... Then again, what else could you expect from someone whose all-time favorite is Evil Dead II? 😬 😍 😁

I watched this film a while back during a similar stretch of time... Honestly, our national public broadcaster is a total joke. They'll run hundreds of mindless American sitcoms until midnight, but then, just when you think there's nothing left, they actually start airing the good stuff 🤮
