The Devil Inside (2012)

Here we go, yet another entry in the endless line of exorcism movies. We'll see soon enough if this one just sinks into mediocrity or actually manages to bring something fresh and original to the table. The last flick on this subject I caught here was The Rite starring Hopkins, and honestly, I found it pretty ridiculous due to how poorly made it was.






PLOT:
Back in 1989, Maria Rossi killed three people during an exorcism performed on her. About twenty years later, her daughter travels to Rome to visit her mother, who is currently in a psychiatric hospital. In an attempt to make sense of everything that happened, she accepts an offer from a priest to witness a real exorcism firsthand...

I’m honestly struggling to see what else a movie with a premise like this could offer beyond being just more "fresh blood" for the genre. To me, nothing about the setup feels particularly original or groundbreaking.

But hey, whatever, I’ll probably end up checking it out whenever I get a free moment.

Just watched it online... personally, I wasn't impressed.🤷 There are better movies out there.

This was garbage. The characters were incredibly weak and totally unconvincing, and let me tell you, actual exorcists aren't some amateur wannabes like the guy in this movie.

A total disaster. Honestly, anything would be better than this movie.

It was alright, but that ending was 🙂
I wish they’d just film a sequel or something. You can't just leave it hanging like that... it's such a letdown.

Watched the trailer at a friend's place and we were totally hyped, but... 😠
Man, what a letdown. A few of us actually drifted off halfway through... turns out the trailer and the actual movie are worlds apart.. 🙂

Well, my suspicions were spot on. It’s just another one in that endless line of found-footage flicks, and while I usually have a soft spot for the genre, this one was just completely washed out, dull, and totally lacked any sense of originality. I actually ended up watching it half-distracted, jumping back and forth between a game of Solitaire on one screen and the movie on the other. Even though those quiet stretches at the beginning are technically logical for this kind of setup, I just can't shake the feeling that the ending was a total bait-and-switch... honestly, I felt cheated. Just a bad movie, plain and simple.

The movie is actually quite good—it feels realistic and engaging... definitely better than that one with Anthony Hopkins.

As for the ending? What were you hoping for, a Hollywood happy ending? 🤣 I mean, life doesn't always work out perfectly. This story was just meant to be tragic.

Just finished watching it. Honestly? Not surprised at all. It’s the exact same tired template they use for every other movie lately.

I won't be thinking about this one for very long.

Caught a viewing last night... honestly, I didn't hate it all that much. I’ve always had a soft spot for that whole found-footage, live-cam style of filmmaking. It definitely could have been tighter, more polished or whatever, but hey, it is what it is...

Honestly, most found-footage movies don't bother with happy endings, so that sarcastic jab about a "Hollywood finish" wasn't even on my radar! Plus, let's be real—most films in this genre don't hand you a neat little explanation for everything that happened, so I wasn't holding out for a grand revelation either. To put it simply, the ending just didn't hit home for me the way, say, The Blair Witch Project... Cloverfield... [REC]... or even Paranormal Activity did. But if I’m being totally blunt? I just expected a better movie overall.

Regarding this movie, I really can't say much more than what was said above.😁 It isn't even mediocre—it’s just plain bad.

If you watch the ending about six times in a row, it actually starts to get funny 🤣... personally, I thought it was fine. Nothing to write home about 🤷
If I had to compare them, I’d give a higher rating to PA 😍
