The Eagles

I took a look through the "content" here, but I couldn't find any mention of this legendary band—so, I guess I'll just start a thread about them myself.

Just a heads-up, too—I'm currently gathering stuff on them, mostly videos, so if anyone wants to trade files, maybe shoot me a DM.

I’m not quite sure how to put this into words—I just love them.
Most of their stuff is decent enough, I suppose, but my absolute favorite has to be Whiskey in the Jar.

Are you talking about the Eagles or Thin Lizzy? I don't remember hearing covers of that song by either of them...

Ah, the Eagles,

I used to listen to them constantly about fifteen years ago.

Nowadays, I still find myself reaching for them quite often.

Look, I wouldn’t call myself a massive country fan—even though I do listen to it—
but the Eagles are just something else.
Their vocal harmonies are top-tier on pretty much every track,
plus the guitar work is spot on without feeling cluttered, unlike a lot of other American country music out there.

All in all, they’re definitely one of my musical favorites... 👍

It's a shame they didn't stay together longer; in my opinion, the solo careers just never quite hit that same level of greatness.

Maybe some stuff works, but it's just not the same.

Honestly, most people just don't get it—they're too soft—but Eagles of Death Metal are absolutely legendary! 🙂

I mean, early on, the Eagles played a sort of blend of country and bluegrass—in their own specific way, I guess. You can really hear it in take it easy. They eventually leaned harder into rock, especially once Joe Walsh joined the mix.

Yeah, they really are special. I think you nailed the description. Everyone has such distinct voices, and those harmonies they pull off are almost perfect.
I've been listening for over a decade and they never get old. My only gripe is that they were at their peak when I was just a kid, and finding decent concert footage online is pretty tough. I've managed to find a little bit, though. 😢

Look, I don't think we need to argue about taste. I don't consider my parents to be "soft," and the Eagles are barely even a generation older than them. Back then, today's metalheads probably wouldn't have lasted a day. I mean, what even was "metal" in the late 60s or early 70s? 🙂

Anyway, any decent record collection—especially if it's built on guitar music—really shouldn't be complete without the legendary Eagles.

Definitely, I'm with you there. Though, maybe it was for the best. We know them exactly as they were, and how their music sounded. If they had stayed together forever, who knows what would have happened to that original spark? I guess most bands that stick around for decades eventually lose whatever it was that made us love them in the first place.

I mean, Dylan played around with country influences in a few tracks—which was pretty standard for American musicians back then—but he was never really a country artist. As for the Eagles, they did kick things off with a blend of country and bluegrass, though they had their own unique spin on it. It's hard to deny they nailed that sound.
That said, if you aren't into that style, it's just not for you. It's like how I don't care for Madonna, even if she were to win Eurovision. 😁

I don't get why people in America are so obsessed with RealMedia—it’s driving me crazy. Every single Eagles video I found was stuck in that ancient .ram format. It took forever just to hunt down a converter to turn them into AVI files, and even then, the audio turned out pretty terrible. So then I had to spend more time fixing that, too. As if a recording from the 70s wasn't already low-quality enough. 😢

I’ve always had a massive soft spot for New Kid in Town.
One day, I’m sitting in a local bar, ready to knock out a seven-song set for a decent little paycheck—nothing but absolute classics, really. We're talking Beast of Burden; Sealed, Signed, Delivered; Fat Bottomed Girls; the Eagles mentioned above; just a straight run of hits. I’m just waiting for my turn to take the stage (I saw exactly how the previous act was playing their cards), but instead, those lowlifes shut down the jukebox because it hit eleven o'clock. I couldn't even grab another drink to deal with the disappointment, thanks to all those damn local liquor laws.
