Between "The A-Team" and "The Expendables" both hitting screens this year, we've got another flick about a crew of mercenaries/agents/soldiers (whatever you want to call them) doing the dirty work for uncle sam. It's called "The Losers." It's based on the Vertigo comic book series by Green Arrow. The original run actually started back in the '60s under the DC Comics banner, heavily influenced by World War II and written by Robert Kanigher. But since 2004, the whole thing has been handled by Vertigo, and Green Arrow has moved the setting to a totally different vibe.
Work on this project kicked off way back in 2007. Originally, it was supposed to be written and directed by that actor turned decent director, Peter Berg ("The Rundown", "Hancock", "The Kingdom", etc.). For reasons nobody really knows, Berg ended up just taking a writing credit, leaving the directing duties to Sylvain White ("Stomp the Yard"). James Vanderbilt is also credited on the script alongside Berg. As far as the heavy hitters behind the scenes go, we've got legends like Joel Silver ("Predator", "Commando", "Die Hard" series, etc.) and Akiva Goldsman ("Constantin Film", "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", "I Am Legend", etc.) producing. The cast is packed with big names too—Zoe Saldana ("Star Trek", "Avatar"), Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen"), Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four", "Street Kings"), Idris Elba, Jason Patric ("Speed 2", "Narc"), Columbus Short, and more. The movie is set to drop on April 9, 2010.
