I watched it again this past Sunday...
all by myself...
The movie, and me...
it's been a long time since I last sat down with it...
I find myself circling back to it every couple of years...
both the film and I... we change...
It’s easily my favorite Wenders film...

How about you guys?

I try to catch him whenever I get the chance. It’s been way too long...
Last time was maybe three or four years ago back at college during some late-night lecture. Pretty cool 🙂

Alright then... for those of you who don't exactly vibe with Wenders, you’ve got a pathetic little remake called "Angel City" starring a subpar Nicolas Cage and that sweetheart Meg Ryan! 😉 Honestly, the remake is just—it's total garbage.

Yeah, I mean, compared to the original it’s definitely a step down—but calling it a total remake is a stretch, isn't it? Especially since the plot in Heavens over Berlin actually heads in a completely different direction.

See, I actually prefer Angel City, even though I know it follows that typical Hollywood blockbuster formula where everything needs to be laid out clearly from start to finish, usually ending on some sappy, sad note... And don't even get me started on Nicolas's "g L u m i"...

That said, Wenders' dialogue felt heavy to me. I really had to lean in and focus just to wrap my head around what was being said at times. Some of those conversations feel way too long and overly philosophical, at least from what I recall...

In Angel City, Solveig Dommartin passed away on January 11th of this year. To me, the film is primarily breathtaking because of her—she looks absolutely stunning in it... honestly, she might just be the most beautiful actress to ever grace the screen. And that scene on the trapeze? It’s incredibly sexy (it’s wild to think she mastered all those moves in just eight weeks). Plus, the cinematography during those dreamlike sequences over Washington, D.C. is just insane. After the credits rolled, I felt like I was waking up from the most beautiful dream... 🙂

I remember when I first watched this movie a few years back; I honestly had to force myself to sit through it until the end, yet now I find myself returning to it constantly.
Personally, I consider it one of the best films out there. And just like someone else mentioned here, I keep coming back to it—anyone who has seen it probably understands why.
