😳

😂

Your tactics are all wrong, man. You have to be subtle. Devious. You act like a perfect gentleman on Reddit, but behind the screen? You’re just a wicked, twisted grin waiting to happen.

😍

But honestly, being a moderator really just means you have to stay neutral. You can't take sides.

Honestly, I think most people would actually lose their minds if they weren't allowed to just troll and act like total jerks online. If we were all forced to be reasonable, polite, and genuinely cultured? It would be pure misery. Most folks would probably just snap.

It’s true. You can perversely decide to ban someone just because they disagree with you and make up some arbitrary penalty on the spot, but that isn't the same thing as sucking up to the mods and actually earning your stripes through merit. 🤷

This is usually how the girls start things off.

😁

Just imagine how awkward it gets when you're totally vibing with one side of an argument, but the other side is actually being eloquent, and then you're expected to hand out a sanction to the person you actually agree with.
🙂
Of course, a mod is allowed to have their own opinions, and as a regular user, there shouldn't be any issue with expressing them.
But when it comes to moderating, people expect objectivity, and let's face it, neither side in a heated debate has an exclusive monopoly on being right.
Total objectivity is an absolute illusion—I'd argue it's impossible for any of us to achieve—but it isn't impossible to at least try to control your own impulses and manage the discussion fairly.

But hey, I'll give myself a pass for missing a ton of stuff—this place is absolutely massive, and there are way too many members and mods to keep track of everything! 🙂

I honestly had no clue that guy was actually a mod. And look, regarding hollowtrucker77 and the spec board—it was just a joke, okay?

Great post, and killer username. 👍 👏

I hope this helps all the wannabe mods out there.

Cheers. 👋

Thank you. 🙂

Dana Reyes5 said:I am not suggesting all the mods are geniuses🤷, because if I did, everyone else would have to be an idiot by default.😁

And, let me know if they got what they wanted.🤣

My assertion that moderators need to be intelligent doesn't logically necessitate that everyone else is foolish—that's simply flawed reasoning. But, I suppose that's exactly what being a moderator entails, isn't it? 🙂

BTW just look at posts from someone like Emericzy who isn't even a moderator on this forum yet.

He was in that role a long time ago, but he resigned. 😉

I went ahead and took a moderator position over on another forum, just so if they ever end up needing my help here... they can actually reach me.😉

Well, it was clearly stated that there is a fee involved, which is perfectly logical. You pay to get into a movie theater, you pay to get into a disco, so why on earth wouldn't you pay for entry into the moderator's club?😁

Someone should probably go ahead and wire those $1,001 while we still can, before the price decides to jump.😁

How did you end up getting into that over there? 🙂

Why not? Everyone says the pay is solid, and if you listen to the reliable sources, you even get that seniority bump at a 1.25 multiplier... just look into it.

If I don't land that holding company director gig, I'm definitely going for moderator. Once I've scraped together enough bribe money, I'll be riding high...... bulletproof plan 😉

🙂

You can't just walk in there, try to pitch yourself, and expect anyone to take you seriously from the jump.

Sorry, but no way. 👋

Why are people so obsessed with moderation? 😕

Look, why not be a moderator? If you're already active on the forum and actually contributing something useful, why wouldn't you take the role? 😉

And seriously, why all the drama? 🤷

The whole "virtual hierarchy" and "fake status" thing... it's just the wrong way to look at an online community.

To me, a forum should be about entertainment and staying informed. Even if you have an official role, it’s still supposed to be fun. Because if it isn't, what's the point of being here? 🤷

To answer the question: someone who genuinely wants to moderate will follow the rules and still find ways to enjoy themselves.

But if someone is looking for a different kind of "fun," they'll end up getting kartoniran and banned. 🤣

You need to be active in the subreddits you care about, be a model user—you know, someone who actually knows how to write, isn't a jerk to talk to, and basically just has good vibes. Eventually, if you catch the eye of one of the mods, supermods, or the admins, they might pull you aside and ask if you're down to help run things. That’s pretty much the only way it happens. And hey, the pay? Yeah, it's totally massive.

🤣

Are those qualities actually required for moderation across all the different subforums? I ask because I know a few people currently holding positions who don't really meet those standards at all.🙂

I honestly think hiddensailor14 meets—and probably even exceeds—all the requirements, so I’m officially throwing his name forward as a moderator for the Alternative Medicine subforum.

The guy knows just about every type of bioenergetic healing out there, and—not to sound too biased—but he’s actually quite well-known for his abilities as a psychic.

Generally speaking, using a second color is pointless to me. But when that second color is some nauseating yellowish-orange, then it’s just irritating. Red is 😱

I guess those people who need everything color-coded also feel the urge to paint over the letters themselves, but why bother? 😕

Honestly, plenty of mods just give up on it.
It’s not exactly a thankless job—well, actually, it's incredibly thankless, and the pay? Non-existent.

Personally, I think being a regular user is way better than being a mod.
As a mod, you're supposed to be this objective pillar of truth—you have to slog through threads you couldn't care less about just to make sure nobody's causing chaos, all while maintaining this perfect, saintly behavior...
As a regular user? You don't have to deal with any of that. Sure, you might get banned here and there if you push things too far, but it's usually just a couple of days before you're back to your old tricks. Plus, you can just flirt with the relatives of whoever banned you. Or maybe just hang out with Mexicans if that's more your speed.

Power is intoxicating. At least, that's how it looks to everyone at the bottom of the ladder.
But once you realize there's always someone above you—once you're getting squeezed from both sides—it stops looking like such a sweet gig[1].

[1] Well, maybe for you since you're a woman, I don't know.

uff, you’d be surprised how many European forums—or even over here in the US 🤔—actually charge for moderation, and they don't play around with the amounts 😁
.
I can't think of a specific name right now, but a buddy mentioned a colleague of his actually works (literally has a job) as a forum mod making about $1,800 a month 😁. The only exceptions are places where you pay a membership fee of maybe $10 a month, provided you stay active at least seven hours a day 😁

well, I actually think it's great.

I mean, if those "painted" people have to color everything, why bother coloring the letters? What's the point? 😕

just because I'm a narcissistic, slimy cynic, I guess.

and your post is off topic (though, fair enough, mine probably is too)

Actually, yeah. My bad.

Let me just correct myself there.

Look, if you want to become a moderator, you basically have to be the perfect user first. After that? Well, then you can act like the absolute last brainless hillbilly on the planet—just throwing out bans instead of actual arguments and permabanning anyone who dares to disagree with you. It’s why so many insecure losers and general idiots constantly crave that mod position. But let's be real—only a tiny handful actually end up staying in it.
Hey, shoutout to the small handful of people here who might actually be smart enough to recognize themselves. 😁
