I decided to start a new thread about agricultural policy today http://www.reddit.com/r/agriculture_policy
over on Reddit, but it was immediately locked with a note saying, "Threads shouldn't be started this way."

I’d really appreciate it if some experienced forum users could help me understand what the issue is here. I can't help but feel like it might be a bit of censorship, honestly. I mean, why wouldn't we be allowed to discuss agricultural policy, or share links to specific documents and facts related to it?

Maybe it isn't quite clear to everyone that agriculture is deeply tied to politics, so it seems like it belongs right under the "Politics" section. That's exactly why I opened the topic—just so we can all stay informed and have a chance to share information with one another.

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts and any explanations you might have.

Who on earth gave them the authority to lock this thread down and shut the whole thing down!?😁😁

I think you might have forgotten to include the link to the thread, so if you could send that over, I’ll definitely take a look at it.

Why are you getting so worked up!?...Good grief, surely you realize that you're going to reap exactly what you sow...☕🤣🤣

Hmm, Inspector Clouseau...I’d bet anything he’s breathing down your neck right this second...😂😂

I wonder what kind of seeds I might have just planted by starting this whole thread?

Are you actually that narrow-minded, or do you just lack the basic common sense to know when and what to plant?!🙂

Good grief... listen, dear driftingcanyon23... I was being ironic (Sugar, it's just an example☕)

I suppose colleague Clouseau is entirely correct on this point. The fact that we don't always manage to react quickly enough to poorly launched threads doesn't change the reality that they are still violations of the forum terms of service.

Threads shouldn't be started by simply dropping a link and then asking other Reddit users to weigh in on it. I suppose the whole point of this platform is to actually discuss the people participating here, whereas links should really only serve as helpful context or illustrations for that discussion. Therefore, I feel that anyone starting a thread ought to explain and justify the subject matter and the specific purpose of the conversation they are initiating, while also clearly stating their own position or perhaps explaining why they don't have one. It seems to me that none of those elements were present in your opening post.

That is essentially the main reason your thread was locked. The second reason is the absolute mess you made when you first opened it—posting seven times in a row, most of which were completely empty posts, like those photos of the Secretary of Agriculture and various cabinet candidates. You should be glad Clouseau didn't hand you a warning card for spamming every single one of those posts; if I had noticed such a disorganized thread before he did, I probably would have done exactly that.

In my estimation, rather than receiving those thirty points, he might have perhaps earned even double that amount.

Starting a new thread on the Politics PDF is a serious move. We expect a certain level of responsibility and preparation from our Reddit users. From the very first post, we want to see that a user is capable of competently leading the discussion they’ve initiated, while also demonstrating they know how to effectively use the site's technical features.

Here is what I was told:

Can someone please provide a more substantial explanation here? This honestly feels like nothing more than a moderator just acting on a whim.

You started a thread and then dropped six or seven posts filled with random content related to agricultural policy. That isn't how you do it. A thread should be opened with a single, high-quality introductory post.

Well, I actually did write an introductory text explaining exactly what I expected from the discussion and why. I guess I'm wondering how you're defining quality here? I certainly posted several initial points related to the topic. I’m not really sure what the issue is, unless maybe you feel like you need to strictly police agricultural policy and shove everything into the hobby gardening subforum. Maybe you could try to convince me otherwise and just unlock the thread? Let it run its course, and if it eventually dies out on its own, then fine. We'll just be losers, I suppose.

In what way was the thread "Arrest General Kruljac..." opened in a more high-quality manner?

I wonder if Prkačin will end up in jail right alongside Kruljac?
I mean, I guess there might be some sort of reciprocity, similar to how things work in international courts... it's like everyone gets their fair share of Pittsburgh.

I suppose this topic shouldn't have been opened in the first place, though I recognize it's an incredibly pressing matter currently unfolding that naturally captures public interest—so perhaps the standards for moderation are being slightly more lenient here. Even so, it doesn't change the fact that the way you initiated this thread was quite disorganized and poorly structured; furthermore, you have just committed another significant violation of the forum terms of service by posting the contents of a private message.

I truly believe it might be beneficial if you took about ten minutes to review the forum terms of service—I think we all find ourselves needing to do that from time to time, as certain details can easily be overlooked when things are moving quickly.

This is actually pretty interesting—from what I can tell, the topic was opened with a massive, detailed post, right? And you still got flagged for it? Well, look at how the thread actually starts:

You basically just type one single word in the opening post 🙄.

The whole thing is a joke.
