Trade—it's a gritty trafficking drama. Pretty solid work from a director I haven't heard of before, plus a cast of fresh faces too...
The whole thing follows this thirteen-year-old Mexican girl and her brother after they get snatched.
Even though there are some totally predictable beats—kind of feels like it hits all those standard cinematic tropes at times—it’s still a super engaging watch. It definitely leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth, though, since this kind of stuff actually happens out there in the world. We're talking brutal scenes of kidnapping, assault, abuse... everything from being rented out to predators to straight-up human trafficking...
Definitely worth a watch.
