Greetings. Since I’ve been running on integrated graphics up until now, I finally decided to upgrade by adding a dedicated PCI-E card. I seated it in the slot, booted up, and let the system handle the driver installation. Everything seemed fine, though since my previous resolution was stuck at 800x600, the icons looked massive once the new drivers kicked in, so I bumped the resolution up to 1600x1200. Now, here is the issue: I used to be able to launch my games—specifically FIFA 06—without any trouble, but now when I try to start it, I just get hit with a black screen. Does anyone know how I can get the game running properly again, or does anyone have a clue what might be causing this conflict?

Change your resolution. You've set it to something the game can't actually handle. Try sticking to standard resolutions—check what your monitor's native resolution is and just use that. If you aren't sure, just try 800x600, 1680x1050, or 1920x1080 if your screen supports it.

I’ve already gone through the whole routine of toggling the resolutions—both through my monitor settings and within the game's own configuration files—but I'm still staring at a black screen. The strange thing is, when I force the settings to 800x600, it remains blank, even though that exact resolution used to work perfectly fine before.

Did you get those graphics card drivers installed yet?

You mentioned that the graphics card started installing itself; which specific model are we talking about here? If Windows decided to take matters into its own hands and auto-install a driver, you might have ended up with some absolute junk. It’s almost always better to just go straight to the manufacturer's official website, grab the latest drivers, and install them manually.

If by some miracle that isn't the issue, try plugging your monitor directly into that new GPU 😁
and make sure your desktop resolution is cranked up to the maximum supported by your screen.
The last thing I can think of is that FIFA 06 is somehow trying to run off your integrated graphics instead of the dedicated card. You should either double-check your pre-launch settings to ensure everything looks correct, or, if all else fails, just wipe the game and perform a clean reinstall.

And obviously, try launching a different game just to see if you run into the same headache.

👍 It appears he simply overlooked that detail.
