Hey everyone. I’m running into an issue with my USB ports. Basically, I want them to actually shut off when I power down my PC. It turns out they stay live even after the machine is totally off—I only realized this the other day. How do I kill the power to those ports? My motherboard is a Gigabyte. I was browsing around online and saw some mention that these boards have a "mobile charging" feature that keeps things powered up even when the system is shut down. Look, I'm no tech wizard, so I could use some help here. Thanks.

So, how exactly are you powering it down?
Are we talking Sleep mode or a full-on Shutdown?
If you go with the first one, the USB ports might still be drawing juice... but if you actually shut it down, everything should be dead and buried.

What kind of motherboard are we even dealing with here?

I'm shutting down. I'm running a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

Standard USB ports should basically be obsolete by now, but those sleep-and-charge ones—you know, the yellow or red ones—they just won't die.

...check the manual for your Dell power supply and see if there's a jumper labeled "5VSTB." If you find it, make sure it's set to the off position... or just after you shut down the PC, flip the switch on the back of the PSU 🙂

....if you don't have the manual handy, look in the top left corner; that's usually where they hide those jumpers.
