User search function

So, here’s the deal—when I'm looking for a specific user on the forum, the site actually throws out these suggestions for me. I just pick one of those existing handles and hit search, right?
But then, the forum hits me with this—sorry, no matches found.🙂
It’s happened to me a few times now, and I know for a fact these are legit, active usernames... so can someone help me wrap my head around why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Look, the whole thing is just that those users signed up on the forum, but they haven't actually gone through the hassle of confirming their registration via email yet, so I guess they're just sitting there being flagged as pending activation accounts.
