Venom (2018)

Venom is an upcoming superhero flick based on Marvel's comics.

In the original comics, Venom started as an alien symbiote worn by Spider-Man—before he realized the suit was actually alive.
After he ditched it, the symbiote went dormant until it bonded with a guy named Eddie Brock, a reporter who lost his credibility thanks to Spider-Man's interference—leaving Eddie with nothing but a grudge and a desire for revenge.



Tom Hardy takes the lead.

I’m not feeling particularly optimistic about this one—not once I saw the director and the writing team attached. Honestly, Sony hasn't exactly been winning my trust lately.

Meh.

We could've had an amazing Venom, instead we got Eric from the 1970s, but honestly, I'm not even that hyped about it now.

It would've been better if he was just the main villain in the Spider-Man film (that new Iron Kid one).

There isn't enough money in the world to get me into a theater to see this.

Peter Parker is the core of the whole symbiote story, and I feel like this movie is just going to blow up the Venom plot by cutting him out. Plus, you've got Tom Hardy playing the lead, which is just... he's an overrated actor who always seems to be overacting way too hard.
I read somewhere that Tom Holland showed up on the set of Venom for a few days, so maybe he’ll show up as Peter Parker—though probably not as Spider-Man. I honestly don't see how they'll pull that off, though, since Hardy is practically old enough to be Holland's dad, and Eddie Brock and Peter Parker were basically the same age back at the Daily Bugle.

The Teaser just dropped.

I've honestly seen better fan-made trailers than this one.

Is Tom Hardy overrated? Don't make me laugh. 😂

The guy is easily one of the best actors working today.

Honestly, what I caught in Mad Max, TDKR, and Inception just didn't really hit the mark for me.
I suppose I still need to check out Bronson and Taboo, but from what I've seen so far, he doesn't exactly strike me as an A-Class actor.

Hardy is starting to play the exact same character in every single role.

Based on how dark that teaser looks, it feels like Marvel is basically stepping onto DC territory.
It’s actually looking pretty decent.
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a superhero flick that didn't rely on endless CGI or massive spectacle—though, let’s be real, that’s never going to happen.

A different studio is handling this, not Marvel Studios. So, there's a legitimate chance we might actually get some grit.

What do you mean "different"? It clearly lists Sony and Marvel—that's the production setup—and obviously, Venoma lives in the same universe...
Darkness doesn't automatically equal quality, though—it would be great if they actually managed to pull off a more mature story, similar to what they did with Logan.

The silver lining here is that we’re looking at an R-rated flick, so there might actually be a fighting chance for this to turn out decent. That said, this teaser didn't exactly get my blood pumping or make me rush to the theater. I do appreciate how they're keeping things shrouded in mystery for now—you know, typical teaser move—by not showing off Venoma or that black suit right away. They shouldn't give everything away upfront. The poster looks pretty cool, though.
The downside? It's a Sony production, and more importantly, there's no Spider-Man in sight... Total letdown.
Can you imagine what a massive hit this would be if they paired them up? Having the two of them go head-to-head in an R-rated showdown? Man...

Fair enough, but personally, I wouldn't be interested in this at all.😁

It feels like Hardy did a guest spot on Kimmel or Conan or Fallon or Corden, and now they're just putting together some sort of spoof trailer based on that.

Don't get me wrong—Hardy is a fantastic actor—but let’s be real: he’s been playing the same note lately, mostly because that’s the kind of material they keep handing him. He just wanders around mumbling.

Who knows, maybe they'll find a way to work Carnage into the story. I'd really love to see that happen.

Marvel Studios isn't connected to Venom. Marvel is credited because it's based on their comics, but there's zero confirmation that it shares a universe with the MCU films.
