I need some help here! Is there an existing thread on this forum, or does anyone know of a program that can "edit" a video by simply cutting out specific parts without changing anything else? For instance, if I'm recording from a TV and want to cut out the commercials, or if I have a clip from my phone that's just too long and I want to trim it down. I'm looking for something similar to how people use Audacity for audio. Thanks!!🙂

Everyone's talking about information, but if you ask me, I’d rather have something free and simple!

Pinnacle Studio... it’s actually quite straightforward enough 👍

When it comes to cutting footage with video REmaker, I guess there isn't anything faster out there. It doesn't require re-encoding after the cut, and for joining clips, maybe just use Fast AVI MPEG Joiner.

Here I am!! I managed to trim out the commercials using Free Video Bub 1.5.1.53—honestly, you couldn't ask for anything simpler.
Then I tried to stitch the clips together using Windows Movie Maker v5.38, but UNFORTUNATELY, that software is just a Verizon Trial!!
If anyone knows how to snag it for free, let me know; the interface is incredibly straightforward. Of course, I'm a total amateur, so I'm perfectly happy messing around with these "childish" little programs, haha!!
But that brings us to the real headache...
See, I recorded a movie onto a thumb drive using that famous digital TV receiver, and it's saved as an "mpg" file. If I want to burn it to a DVD and watch it on my DVD player, I need it in DVD format!!!! (Not in DVX) SO HOW ON EARTH DO I DO THAT?? Naturally, the software has to be FREE because I need it for the long haul! Besides, the best things in life are free, right!?

Just grab the DVD Video Soft free studio manager—it’s basically a massive toolkit packed with tons of tiny, straightforward programs for downloading and editing video.

Kudos, stormyharbor2—I was actually surprised nobody had brought this up until now! VirtualDub is a fantastic, free piece of software for Windows. If only the Linux version of Avidemux were just a tiny bit more accurate when it comes to guessing bitrates...

Honestly, what a massive waste of time messing around with free software... especially when you constantly tell yourself, "Eh, this is plenty good enough for what I need to do."

I was saying the exact same thing just a year ago—and look where it got me. Pretty soon, I ended up switching over to Premiere anyway...

That’s exactly what I used to say a year ago, right before I eventually gave in and switched to Premiere...
