Hey everyone!

I was poking around some sketchy corners of the web earlier and I'm pretty sure my PC is infected now... I tried running Norton, but it didn't seem to clear everything out completely. Every time I boot up, a few little banners or pop-ups still show up on my screen...

A couple of years ago, I used this one website that helped me scrub all the junk off my computer, but I can't for the life of me remember the name...😢

Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks!

...you sure it isn't just that Google Chrome doesn't support those blocking extensions anymore if they don't have the right certificate?

Hm... Now I'm seeing ads popping up everywhere on the forum. They weren't there before... Is there any way to block them?

I went into my Extensions and tried disabling everything, but nothing seems to work.😢 Any advice?

Do I seriously need to buy a certificate or something?🤔 🤦 🙂

There’s some kind of bug going around with Google Chrome, and honestly, the entire internet is losing its mind over it. It looks like we’re staring down the barrel of a total disaster.

Then again, wouldn't you say that digging through those shady adult sites could be just as much of a problem? 😁

Just grab ADWCleaner from the link I sent over... run it and hit scan. Once it finds everything, just wipe it all out and restart your computer—that should do the trick. Then, just grab the uBlock Origin extension for your browser and you'll be good to go.

Maybe try just uninstalling the browser and doing a fresh install? I ran into similar issues myself once...

Mozilla? Yeah, I’m using it, but the issue is still there. Just some weird pages popping up here and there... Even running CCleaner didn't do much, though maybe things are slightly better 🙂

If those pages start showing up again, just try Opera. It's faster than Mozilla. Usually, this stuff happens when you download something from a sketchy site. Worst case scenario, grab CCleaner and wipe your entire browser history. 🙂
good luck 😉

My ad-blocker for Mozilla has completely stopped working, leaving me staring at ads even while I'm just browsing this forum. It seems highly probable that this is tied to this specific development:

Lately, it appears that all add-ons within Firefox were disabled. This is a bug on Firefox's end and Has affected All add-ons ; including Ghostery. A patch, specifically version 66.0.4, should be released by Mozilla shortly to rectify the situation. If you'd like to ensure you're back up and running the moment it drops, I'd suggest going into your settings and making sure Firefox is set to auto-update. Should you find yourself needing further clarification, feel free to drop an email to support@ghostery.com. Thanks!

Look, it’s definitely not because of some "sketchy" websites, and it’s got nothing to do with CCleaner or some random malware/virus.
The 66.04 patch is currently in the works, but if you aren't really feeling the wait, I’ve got a workaround right here—complete with screenshots... you can just roll it back once the official update drops.

Honestly, my best advice would be to just uninstall Mozilla along with any other browsers you're currently using... then, try running AdwCleaner again. You should also definitely grab Malwarebytes—just download it, get it installed, and run a full scan. Once that's all finished up, reinstall Mozilla and things should hopefully be back to normal. https://www.malwarebytes.com/

It seems like the only people who didn't run into issues with blocked add-ons were the ones who actually checked their settings and turned off the option to send technical data and other telemetry back to Mozilla in the Privacy & Security tab.

Everyone else who unchecked that box to stop sharing their data ended up getting hit with the whole broken add-on mess.
ps: I've tried a clean install and ran every antivirus/malware scanner out there, but nothing finds anything... nothing works.

...so we're just stuck waiting on the patch (66.0.4).

Here we go again: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/...3/win64/en-US/
just grab that first 66.0.4. .exe file and get it installed.

There is actually a more seamless way to handle this via automatic installation. If you head into your "Preferences", navigate over to "Privacy & Security", and then just scroll down until you find the option to "Allow Firefox to install and run Studies", you should be all set, as that ought to trigger the update automatically. Once that is sorted, I simply went ahead and reinstalled Adblock Plus—which is my personal preference, though you can certainly stick with whichever extension you prefer—and that should pretty much wrap things up.

That last link isn't the culprit, it's working just fine.
What you're looking at isn't actually an update. It’s basically just giving permission to run test add-ons for developers, plus that line right above it about sending tech data over to Mozilla—which most people already have turned off. Only those of us who actually kept that setting disabled ran into those blocked add-on issues over the last few days.

Just installed the new Mozilla and things are looking okay. No more ads popping up on the forums, though YouTube is still being stubborn and showing them... It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster lately, but things are finally settling down. 🙂 Malwarebytes helped me out quite a bit too, since it looks like I accidentally picked up some malware while browsing the other day... not entirely sure how it happened.

Thanks to everyone for the help 😍
