What exactly does a customs broker do?

Hey,
I’m looking for some insight (ideally from someone who’s actually done this or is currently in the trenches) regarding what this job is really like. Can anyone give me a breakdown?
What are the actual pros and cons?

I’ve got a high school diploma, but my background is completely unrelated to this field. Still, an opportunity just landed on my plate to try it out and see if I actually have what it takes. I know you mostly learn by doing, but I’d love to get a heads-up before I dive in. Any info helps.
