When I was 16?

What were you listening to when you were sixteen? Name at least three to five bands for me!

P.S... It strikes me that those years are absolutely pivotal for shaping one's musical identity.
To be quite specific, had I not discovered these particular groups during that formative stage, my musical sensibilities would likely be far more superficial today. Instead, it was thanks to them that I began navigating the fascinating waters of postmodern and modern music.

By the way, I was listening to a lot more of 5. back then—plenty of Smiths, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions, The Cure, Front 242, Paraf, and just a ton of electronic music I was starting to dive into. Future Sound of London's "Papua New Guinea" was such a huge hit for us at the time!

The Fall.
Gang of Four.
Stooges.
Joy Division. Pure, raw, and essential. No fluff—just that relentless, driving tension. They defined an era before they even left it behind.
Ramones. Pure, stripped-down energy. No fluff, no nonsense—just three chords and a whole lot of attitude. They defined the sound of the streets. Period.
Velvet Underground. Essential. Everything else is just noise.
Talking Heads. Essential. Don't bother arguing.

Dammit—the Pixies hadn't even dropped Surfer Rosa yet. I didn't catch them until a year or two later—much like Big Black, Fugazi, and a whole host of other great bands. No offense intended.

I used to lean pretty heavily toward the classics, though I guess nowadays you have to wonder how much even counts as a classic anymore:
The Doors, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Cream, The Moody Blues, Mike Oldfield, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, U2, R.E.M., Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Allman Brothers Band, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Anthrax, Saxon, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Judas Priest
...and so on and so forth... nothing particularly cutting-edge or modern, really. Back in high school, all the kids in my class were obsessed with what they called "alternative," and honestly, I could never quite wrap my head around what that was supposed to mean... 🙄 😁

Husker Du, R.E.M., the Pumpkins, Iron Maiden...😁 The Cure...🙂 Radiohead, then ATD dropped and I didn't stop listening until I was seventeen...

I didn't listen to anything. Literally nothing. I only started discovering how great unknown music can be when I turned 19. Now I'm 21 and trying to make up for lost time at lightning speed. It’s tough when nobody around you cares about music—not my parents, I don't have an older brother, and my friends? Nothing good there. Still managed to finish school though!

I have this vivid memory of being exactly sixteen years old and catching a Psihomodo Rock show; honestly, I can still hear myself screaming at the top of my lungs: "When I was sixteen! When I was sixteen!" As far as the local scene goes back then, my playlist was a mix of Majka, Psihomodo Rock, Kojotes, and oh yeah, Hladno Pivo... and I just realized it’s been seven years since that era! It’s hard to wrap my head around how much time has passed. I think that was right around the moment I started getting into The Doors... it was all such a gradual, beautiful unfolding of musical taste. 🙂

Time, Smak... Honestly, most of them are older than I am. There was exactly one "band" from that era that actually stuck: New Kids on the Block. But that phase only lasted as long as I was wrapped up in some guy who looked like he belonged in the group. I can't quite remember which one.🙄
