Which antivirus should I use?

What’s actually considered "in" right now when it comes to antivirus software? I'm looking for something that can handle most attacks without eating up 50% of my system resources like some bloated bloatware.
Honestly, I’ve been running totally bare for the last few months and I feel great.🙂
I used to have one of those local brands, but the subscription expired and I haven't bothered since.
I stay on top of my Windows updates, though, so the machine seems to be running pretty smoothly enough.
Right now, I’m in the middle of reinstalling an entire network—three PCs total—and since it's been a minute since I’ve messed with this stuff, I figured I'd ask: are there any new Windows versions out there that you guys would actually recommend?

So, what’s actually considered "cool" right now? Honestly, hard to say—it changes every week—but I do know one thing for sure: this stuff is solid, free, and won't absolutely murder your system performance:

As for Windows itself, if you're rocking some beastly rig with a massive amount of RAM and lightning-fast drives, then yeah, Windows Vista might be worth looking at. But if you aren't running a powerhouse, honestly, even Windows XP Service Pack 2 still gets the job done just fine...

I’m in complete agreement with crimsongull3 here—Norton AntiVirus really is the gold standard. I've been running it for over a year now, and even when I'm reckless enough to browse those sketchy corners of the web, there isn't a single trace of a virus to be found. ... ...

If you ask me... McAfee Internet Security is definitely the way to go. It’s incredibly fast, and more importantly, it packs all that essential protection into one seamless package—you get the antivirus, the firewall, and all those other little essentials too.

NOD32 and McAfee are definitely the heavy hitters here, but honestly, even those free options like AVG or Norton AntiVirus aren't half bad. If you’ve got a solid firewall running, you barely even need an antivirus—it really just comes down to using a bit of common sense!

Look, just go into the McAfee settings under "real-time Protection setting" and find where it says "Protection against network attacks"—you gotta check the box that says "Disable Protection against network attacks" to make them play nice...

I don't know what you're talking about. If you actually take the time to configure Norton Antivirus properly, it’s easily the best option out there. You can't just click "next-next-next" through the installer and expect peak performance 👍 , you have to be intentional 😬

Either grab Bitdefender 10 Pro+ or just go with Norton 6
Whatever you do, stay away from Norton Antivirus. I used to run it, and the thing would swear my system was clean while I was staring right at a virus. Then I switched to Bitdefender, and honestly, Norton is just a massive pile of junk—even if it actually manages to flag something, it can't even delete it properly. It’s useless. 👎
Bitdefender is actually solid; it’s got the anti-spam, anti-spyware, and the firewall all built-in. Plus, the updates roll out every couple of hours and it doesn't lag my machine at all.

The only headache I ever had was with Norton Internet Security because it completely choked my DSL connection. I couldn't get online at all—it was just a bit too finicky for my liking.
Right now, I’m running the latest version of five alongside Norton Anti-Hacker, and honestly, it works like a charm.
I've never felt safer. Hehe.
