Since we’re already dealing with an endless parade of idiots, I figured I’d contribute my own little observation...

I find myself scanning through posts from people who are genuinely seeking advice or some kind of help—no matter how ridiculous the request might be—utilizing the relative anonymity of a forum like this... especially when they feel they can't truly express themselves in their own social circles back home...
...however, even though I consider myself a fairly tolerant person, I sometimes find this constant "sentimental whining" that permeates this place absolutely grating (and let me be clear, this isn't a critique, it's just a cold hard fact)...
...which leads me to wonder about the psyche of these individuals who come to places like this looking for empathy or guidance, whether for legitimate reasons(barring any exceptions, the rest of this post isn't aimed at them), hidden agendas, or something else entirely...
...what does it actually say about a person's character to engage in this forced "emotional coddling" that bears zero resemblance to reality? It feels manufactured, and what’s worse, half the people here swallow it whole... it's honestly pathetic...

...look, I rarely post, even though I've been lurking here for nearly four years, so since I'm finally speaking up, I might as well make it as blunt as the sheer stupidity of some of these threads...

Be a good soul. When someone's having a rough go of it, just give 'em a hug.

Clausewitz said:Man, you just don't get them. They really are like that—they actually need help. Like, seriously, they need it.

And what about him? Does he not need help? This guy’s been hanging around this forum for four years straight—can't you see this is basically a cry for help? A total scream...

That sounds like some ancient Chinese

Heh, it’s not a bad sentiment, it's just that we’re living in a cutthroat capitalist society now.😁

😁 Unfortunately, it’s just a professional hazard born from being tethered to the internet twenty-four hours a day... and as far as actual assistance goes, an extra $100,000 wouldn't hurt anyone, but let's be honest—this isn't exactly the right venue for asking for handouts...😁

Look, can you really just go around bothering your friends and family in real life the way people do here? I mean, probably not. There’s usually some kind of social boundary, right? But here—well, there aren't any boundaries (though I'm sure the moderators are listening closely 😁 )—so people just tear down all their walls and say whatever random thought pops into their heads.
That’s why this forum is 👍

I have to admit, it isn't a bad point, even if it doesn't tie directly back to my initial post. It really speaks to what I was saying about the temperament of people who just dump whatever random thought crosses their mind onto a screen. Whether this platform should be treated as a free-for-all or if it’s supposed to serve a more specific, structured purpose is a whole different debate entirely...👍 😁

Look, if you ask me, an online forum should be a space for hanging out and actually swapping ideas... you can say whatever is on your mind—sure, people might come at you for it, but they aren't staring you down 😁 , which makes things a whole lot easier.
Besides, you actually have the luxury of time to formulate a coherent thought—it’s not like a real-life conversation where everything moves at lightning speed and not everyone is quite as sharp as the folks gathered here 🙄

If you ask me, this forum is meant to be a place for hanging out and swapping ideas...

But also... it’s a place to vent all that frustration in the early hours of the morning or late at night... 😁
Whenever I feel like I just need to blow off some steam, or if someone manages to get under my skin, I'll grab a post and just let it all out... and honestly, I feel much better afterward... 😁
Anyway... I actually signed up for a gym membership today... so maybe I won't need this outlet as much! 😁

Look, you have to realize that people occasionally find themselves in various sentimental, emotional, or intoxicated states where they start overthinking everything and letting any random thought slip through...

I know from experience—having been sobbed out drunk more than a few times, even though that isn't my usual vibe (crying 🙂)

In those moments, people usually just want to vent to someone or simply want validation for how they're feeling. And honestly, an online forum is probably the best place for that—everyone is anonymous, supposedly supportive, and all that...

If you've never found yourself in a state like that, then I truly envy you. But I'm fairly certain that someday, you'll find yourself needing advice, help, or just a sounding board...

So, try to show a little empathy.

Take care 👍

Douglas Hayes6, I hear you, but I think you’re missing the point of my initial argument... let me clarify...
...so...

Quote:
...so I find myself wondering what kind of people seek out understanding or advice in places like this for genuine reasons (setting aside the outliers, as the rest of this isn't meant for them), hidden agendas, or something else entirely...
...which speaks volumes about their character, and more importantly, why this "emotional coddling" exists—it has nothing to do with reality and feels blatantly forced... and the worst part is how many people here actually swallow it whole... it's honestly pathetic...

End

...why should the existence of this specific style of communication somehow override the basic rules of human interaction? The fact remains that this behavior happens, but that doesn't mean the rest of us are obligated to sit there and take it.
...similarly, while everyone has the freedom to write whatever they want, we have to ask if the end justifies the means. This type of dialogue is the "means," but what exactly is the goal for those who rely on this particular way of communicating?
...look, people have problems, sure, but how many of them actually have real issues versus those who are just picking fights, inflating their own egos, or even lying because they have nothing better to do than manipulate others (and specifically targeting those gullible enough to let themselves be manipulated)? People like that really need a reality check.😁

...of course, someone will probably spit on what I'm saying, or someone else might jump on board, and the cycle continues indefinitely... maybe I've just grown old and lost my patience for this nonsense.😁...anyway, I say this with good intentions, and perhaps a few hidden ones too.

I spend some time reading posts from people who are actually looking for advice or help (no matter how stupid it sounds) and use the relative anonymity of an online forum... especially when it’s hard to speak up in your own backyard...
...but even though I'm a pretty tolerant person, sometimes the constant "emotional bleeding" you see here really gets under my skin (not a critique, just a fact)...
...so I wonder what kind of people come to places like this seeking understanding or advice, whether for legitimate reasons(excluding exceptions, the rest of this isn't for them), hidden agendas, or whatever else... what does that say about their character? And mostly, why all this forced "emotional drama" that has nothing to do with reality and feels totally manufactured... and worst part is, tons of people here actually swallow it... it's pathetic...

...I rarely post, even though I've been hanging around here for almost 4 years, so if I'm going to write, might as well make it as stupid as the topics and posts usually found here...

doc

You don't know anything, except that whiners and "performers" annoy you.
As for what kind of people they are? Most are probably better, more empathetic, and higher quality than you can imagine...

Did it ever cross your mind that some things just can't be asked to real people in your life?
You dump your problems and dilemmas here and read... yeah, there's plenty of crap, plenty of mockery... people will laugh at you when you're at your lowest and don't feel like laughing, but in the end, you always walk away with stuff that actually helps you navigate life...

Regarding your "tolerance"... you don't strike me as a particularly tolerant guy... you act more like some stuck-up elitist from a bygone era... that's probably why you've been lurking here for 4 years with only 22 posts, and in your version of being "tolerant," you probably drive everyone around you, like Franjo Tahija, like a demon to work, work, and work harder...

I don't think the character of most people venting their misery or drama here is the question; the question is your character... because what kind of person hangs around for 4 years supposedly just reading, then suddenly pops up asking what idiots post here and what their intentions are...

Look... to make it easy for you, the intention is to mess with the people who read everything but haven't bothered to post more than 22 times in 4 years, all while hiding behind an unknown handle...

Seems to me like you're just clearing the field so you can eventually drop some stupidity or some "life tragedy" of your own...

Just chill out... it's just a forum, and the internet can handle anything... and at the end of the day, we're all just real people with real problems...

Haha, Casey Johnson5, you actually managed to make me chuckle...
...firstly, let’s get one thing straight: I haven't gone out of my way to call anyone out directly here, unlike the approach you've taken...
...secondly, it’s glaringly obvious you didn't find my initial post worth a second glance—not even the quote from it—because you’re typing away without having grasped the actual essence or intention behind what I wrote in the first place...
...and on top of that, you seem to think insulting me is somehow necessary. To put it bluntly, your little outburst was nothing more than a crude translation of your own attitude. Now you've gone and felt personally targeted because I decided to push back. Good for you, really, but maybe try educating yourself on the subject matter before you dive in like a headless chicken. Why?

because:

Quote:
...so I find myself wondering about the kind of people who seek understanding or advice in places like this, whether they have genuine reasons (though, as noted later, the rest of this isn't meant for them), hidden agendas, or something else entirely...
...which speaks volumes about their character, and more importantly, about this "emotional coddling" nonsense that bears zero relation to reality and is clearly just forced; the worst part is that plenty of people here actually swallow it... it's pathetic...
END

...this specifically refers to those individuals who exploit this style of communication...

Quote:
...look, people have problems, sure, but how many truly have issues versus how many are just venting, inflating their drama, or even lying because they have nothing better to do than manipulate others (specifically those gullible enough to be manipulated)? People like that ought to be dealt with firmly.
END

You either get it, or you don't.

...and frankly, I have no interest in engaging in a conversation like this. I'm short on time anyway... hope everyone has a great weekend, including you, Casey Johnson5, but let's leave it at that.

Hey there, asa 😁

I’m heading out because I am absolutely buried under this workload (honestly, I've been grinding all day), and even though I wrapped up my scheduled shift at 1:00 PM... I’m planning to put in some serious overtime to stack up some extra cash 😁
