Windows XP Borg edition

A buddy mentioned that specific edition to me. It’s a DVD with a fully updated Windows XP SP2, heavily tweaked, packed with every driver you could possibly need, and about 50 programs—things like Adobe Photoshop CS, Microsoft Office 2003, WinRAR, K-Lite codecs, and a bunch of other stuff—all without needing license keys. You just run the Windows XP installation, pick the apps you want, and you're done. One reboot later, and the machine is ready to go.
Supposedly, they release a new version every month.
What’s your take? Anyone actually tried this?

I've got it right here. It looks like an older build, though, since it only has SP1 instead of Service Pack 2.
I'm pretty happy with it. Honestly, the whole process is much faster and way more straightforward to install 😁

I think I might actually want to pick this up.

Windows XP Borg edition is really just a wild way to show off how you can use Service Pack slipstreaming to turn Windows XP into whatever crazy thing you want...

I've been mulling this over for a while now—thinking about putting together my own custom disc where Windows XP comes pre-configured exactly how I like it, complete with all my drivers and the free software I use every single day.

But, honestly, since I rarely ever do a fresh Windows XP installation, a disc like that probably wouldn't be worth much. It’d likely be totally outdated by the time I actually needed it.

What I really wanted to point out to you guys, though, is that you can actually build your very own totally legit "Borg edition." You could pack it with all the software you legally own plus every driver you need, provided you take a little time to look into unattended install of XP features and Service Pack slipstreaming for various service packs and patches...

(By unattended, I mean the installer runs itself without you having to sit there clicking through everything. You just set all the rules ahead of time using different config files.)

Anyway, I hope at least one of you found something interesting in my ramblings here... 🙂

I've actually thought about doing the same, but then I remember how fast software updates move these days. Honestly, with my Broadband speeds being what they are, I don't really see the point in going through all that trouble.🙂

I know it’s technically against the rules—I admitted that in my first post—but it’s a solid workaround.
Basically, whenever you need to wipe a machine and start over, you just grab the latest version and handle everything with a single DVD.

Of all people, you should probably know that the FBI—besides their whole crusade against Microsoft—has been fighting tooth and nail for freeware and making sure everyone uses legal software since their very first day! 😁

Man, that speed is brutal. I've been getting absolutely crushed for the last two weeks. My average upload is sitting at over 600kB/s. 😢

I have installed the Windows XP Star Trek edition. It is quite a useful tool, particularly for someone in my position who is constantly moving from site to site assisting people with their computer setups.

However, as rowdytrucker27 pointed out, this software is illegal, and one should not be helping to promote such things.

It’s about 1.7GB in size. I guess that means it'll take me roughly 200 days to actually download it with my current modem setup.
