Hi, I'm dealing with an issue that I can't seem to find a coherent solution for anywhere online.
Basically, I picked up a laptop about two weeks ago:
Dell Inspiron
Processor: Intel Core i3 4030U 1.9GHz
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 820m biti

It came with MS-DOS, so I installed Windows 10 with a license. Everything runs perfectly—except for one glaring issue regarding sleep mode.
After using the laptop for an extended period—say, more than ninety minutes—and then attempting to put it into sleep mode, the LED indicator stays lit and the machine simply refuses to wake up. My only option is to hold down the power button for a few seconds to force a restart. Interestingly, this seems to happen exclusively after heavy use; otherwise, it enters sleep mode normally, the LED blinks as expected, and it wakes up without any drama.
I’ve noticed the same thing happens during a full shutdown—I select shutdown, the screen goes black, the LED stays on, and the device becomes completely unresponsive, forcing yet another hard reset.
Has anyone else run into this, or does anyone know of a fix?

First, check your power settings and see how your Power Plan is configured. Honestly, you might just want to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows. Sometimes these glitches just vanish once you start with a clean slate. If that doesn't fix it, try messing around with the BIOS settings after you read this:

Thanks for the help, but I’ve already cycled through all those power saving settings—I even switched from Balanced to High Performance yesterday. For a split second, I actually thought I’d nailed it, but the same issue crawled back in this evening. As for those BIOS options mentioned in the thread, they aren't appearing for me, or maybe I'm just blind. I just tried a "reset to default" on the Boot tab, so we'll see if that does anything, though I’m not holding my breath...

After a long search for a fix, I finally managed to resolve the issue. It turned out to be the Intel Management Engine Interface driver—it needed to be rolled back from v11.xxxx to v9.5.xx. If anyone else finds themselves stuck with this, give it a shot.

Everything is detailed here:
We have absolutely no clue when Microsoft will roll out a patch. And honestly, they can't even release one until Intel updates their driver first. This whole mess stems from the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver, particularly for people performing a clean installation of Windows 10. Users who upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 using the media creation tool usually have an older version of that driver already sitting there, which doesn't get overwritten during the upgrade process. Consequently, those users aren't seeing any problems.
However, users who claim their free Windows 10 upgrade and opt for a clean install run straight into this wall—since no driver is pre-installed, the Forced Automatic Update system grabs the latest version of the Intel Management Engine Interface driver, which is exactly what triggers the failure. The problematic version is v11.xxxx. For those affected, the recommendation is to uninstall the driver via Control Panel --> Device Manager --> System Devices --> Intel Management Engine Interface, then restart the machine. After that, download an older version—ideally v9.xx—install it, and restart once more. That should settle everything.
I suggest following these steps until Intel actually fixes their mistakes in a future driver update. Microsoft is essentially stuck until Intel sorts their side out. This is precisely why Microsoft hasn't said much about this; it isn't some minor glitch—nearly all laptop users are feeling the impact. While Microsoft could technically withhold the update, for those already dealing with the headache, just uninstall that new driver, revert to the old one, and your shutdown, reboot, or sleep issues should vanish.
