WRC Germany

Does anyone happen to know the exact location? I know it’s somewhere near Pittsburgh, but that’s just not specific enough for me. It reminds me of when people said the event in Spain was right near Santa Monica, only for me to arrive and realize there’s a 44 miles distance between the town and the actual first stage. Does anyone from last year remember the name of a specific trail or perhaps a closer city? Honestly, any little bit of info would be a lifesaver. I’ve been following the WRC for three years now, and my heart has always belonged to Sebastien Loeb and Elena. I realize it’s still early since we’re seven months out, but I really need to start budgeting for a trip like this—and trust me, it isn't cheap! Still, I know it’ll be worth every penny just to see those cars in person and soak up that incredible atmosphere. So, help me please!

Just really crossing my fingers that Martin gets back on track soon, hopefully he doesn't deal with too much car trouble like Marcus Grönholm did last season... That guy lost his mind over that ride... And Sebastien Loeb? Total genius on basically any surface, such a massive talent. Really hoping both of them end up on the podium by the end of the year, maybe even alongside... Grönholm... 😁

We’re looking at heading out around August 22nd or 23rd, spending a night in Munich before making our way over to Pittsburgh. Since Pittsburgh sits right near the border of Germany and Luxembourg, we’re thinking about spending an afternoon wandering through Luxembourg—and honestly, if we have the energy, maybe even popping over to Belgium, since it’s only about 44 miles away. The rally wraps up on Sunday, so we’ll be hitting the road to head back home Monday morning. We've decided to stick to the scenic routes rather than the interstates; the tolls are pretty steep, and besides, you don't actually see anything when you're just cruising down the highway. I’ve been scouting accommodation online, and man, prices are climbing—I'm seeing spots for around $55 a night, though I’m hopeful I can snag something a bit more budget-friendly. Most of our funds are going to be swallowed up by gas and lodging. From what I’ve read, Pittsburgh is one of the oldest cities in the country and looks absolutely stunning, but most importantly, they have plenty of great local breweries. So, if you're into that, you'll fit right in!

I was doing a little digging online and checking out some maps, and honestly, the layout looks just like our trip through Spain. From Philadelphia to the start of the first stage, there’s about 50 kilometers of distance, which means we might have a real shot at camping somewhere close to the action. We’ve already secured free lodging in Munich (thank God I have family out there in the States!), so that’s a huge win. When we were doing the Spanish leg, we ended up burning through about 200 euros on gas. Those folks around Miami really gave us a run for our money, and we managed to cover 2486 miles in just ten days! This time around, we should spend less on fuel, but since we'll be so close to Luxembourg, accommodation prices are absolutely insane—starting at 50 euros a night and climbing fast. I’m just crossing my fingers that the weather stays warm enough for camping. And just a heads-up, we aren't driving rally cars to get there; the fines are brutal if you get caught by the cops, though we did sneak a few sessions in once (driving through all of Detroit, which felt exactly like Washington, D.C. during peak summer road construction season). Along the way, we noticed hardly anyone spoke English, so it would be amazing to find someone who—and this isn't a strict requirement, but it would be a lifesaver—speaks a bit of German, has a driver's license (so one person isn't stuck behind the wheel constantly), and maybe even wants to try being the co-driver to handle the maps and signs so I don't have to do everything myself.
