So, I log onto the forum, hit the discussion boards to reply to a thread, and what do I see? Post count: 1
WTF?

I swear I had over three and a half dozen posts before this.
Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

We're currently cleaning up the forum by archiving old, minor threads. Some chat topics have already been wiped, and more are likely coming soon. Have you been leaving posts on other threads outside the chat category as well?

Yeah, I definitely am. It was all over the photos, the teen threads, and pretty much every other topic too.

I'll ask the admins to take a look at this...

When you run a search for your old posts, they’re all still sitting right where you left them—it looks like the post counter just decided to reset itself out of nowhere. Kind of an interesting little bug, isn't it?

Listen, this has actually happened before. There was some sort of glitch during a post count update, and I believe the correct count will return once the counter refreshes. As for when that might happen... 🤷

I really want to know who actually gets to decide what counts as "important." Who decides what goes to the archives, what stays in the off-topic section, what moves from off-topic to the archive, and what gets nuked entirely? And honestly, how much more of this is going to be deleted? After weeks of moving stuff around, migrating data, deleting things, closing threads, opening them back up—and all this other nonsense—the forum still isn't running right. In fact, it’s basically stuck in the exact same spot it was before any of this chaos started.
I still can't even brew my morning coffee, sit down at my PC, and jump on the forum because this whole mess is what we're dealing with.

The moderators for each sub-section handle it in coordination with the admins and the owner. I can't get into specific details because that’s against the rules, but everything is done for the sake of the platform. We hit a point where there were just too many posts for the server to handle properly. A cleanup was mandatory. Generally, old, locked chat threads are being permanently deleted. There might be exceptions here and there. Other stuff is on the list too, like purging old listings from the Classifieds section, etc.

Anyway, this cleanup is going to drag on for a while. Deleting massive amounts of data puts a huge strain on the server, so it can't be done during peak hours and moves incredibly slowly. Some of you probably saw the maintenance notice around 2 AM...

Look, I get it, but honestly? It doesn't matter if one person thinks it's important and another doesn't. That's just how it goes. If you want to be fair, just lay it all out on the table right at the start of a thread. Tell people straight up that posts—like those stuffy technical guides or whatever—are gonna get deleted. Or tell them a topic is moving to the archives or over to the Off-Topic board. Personally, I’d be thrilled if I could just hang out in the Off-Topic section all day, but they won't let me. 😁 ) .
If people weren't so easily shocked by stuff like this, they’d actually know what they were getting into.

I can't go into too much detail. Look, I know it’s technically against the rules, but let's be real—it's being done for the good of the forum. The server has hit a breaking point where there are just way too many posts for the system to actually handle. It’s lagging hard. That’s why we need a massive cleanup. Most likely, they’re going to permanently wipe those old, locked-out discussion threads. There might be a few exceptions here and there, sure. But there could be other stuff too—like clearing out all those ancient listings on Craigslist or whatever. It’s just necessary.

That’s exactly why individual subforums have their own moderators. Every mod wants their specific section to be top-tier and high quality. But unfortunately, certain things just have to be deleted. There will always be someone complaining about a removal. There always will be. A moderator's job is simply to minimize the damage to the community by cleaning up the trash.

Hold up, why not just migrate to a faster server? Look, I don't know the math behind their database needs or whatever, but isn't this just delaying the inevitable? What happens when you hit this breaking point again? Hopefully, you won't start deleting threads that aren't even chat threads.

Her posts weren't deleted. They're just in the off-topic section, so they don't count toward the total.

I’ve actually noticed the exact same thing happening to me. Right now, I'm sitting at just over 3,000 posts, even though my count used to be closer to 7,000 🙂 and I honestly rarely even touch the off-topic boards
