How much space does a Windows 7 Ultimate installation actually take up?

Is a 40 GB system partition enough?
I usually install everything except games on my system partition, while all my media—music, movies, documents—goes onto other drives.

Right now, my Program Files folder isn't even hitting 2 GB.

Yeah, it's plenty.

It really depends on how many programs you’re planning to cram onto the drive and how much space those heavy hitters take up on your C: drive

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

image

+ I've already got about 15GB of miscellaneous junk sitting on my C: drive right now

But look, you have to factor in the fact that every single future update—for anything at all—is going to eat away at your system partition

You'll be fine, honestly. I personally allocated 50GB and didn't give it a second thought 👍

Someone else will probably chime in to brag about their numbers too 😁
Lmao, whatever 👍

I’ve run into a bizarre issue with Windows 7 Ultimate—it somehow decided to start acting up yesterday evening.

Basically, whenever I boot up my computer, this error pops up right on my desktop: "The application was unable to start correctly (0x0150004)". Click OK to close the application. And get this—every single time I click OK, the exact same message triggers for the next app: AVG anti-virus, Smooth View, Groove monitor, and so on. To top it off, if I even attempt to open something from Microsoft Office—like Excel or PowerPoint—the same error hits me again. Does anyone actually know what's going on here, or is there some kind of patch out there to fix this mess?

Hey everyone, I just got hit with this "Windows Security Center can't turn on" error message out of nowhere, and honestly, it’s got me a bit worried because I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on my main machine. I really need some guidance here, so if anyone knows what's going on or how to fix this, please, please help me out with some steps on what I should do next.

Go ahead and check your services to see if the Windows Security Center service is actually set to start automatically—if it is, try kicking it into gear manually right there. If you don't even see the service listed, then you've likely got some malware messing with your system settings. Just to be safe, run a scan with Malwarebytes and then fire up the system file checker to patch up whatever Windows might have broken.

Noah Sanchez39, that link you shared is pretty much useless—it just gives instructions on how to Disable the "The application was unable to start correctly (0x0150004)". Click OK to close the application" rather than actually fixing the damn issue.

Benjamin King2, I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction, but I've got a bit of a headache because Malwarebytes keeps flagging this heuristic malware every single time I run a scan, yet for some reason, it just won't let me delete it no matter what I try.

@ electricmarlin18

"I suggest that you perform a clean boot on the computer"
"A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts."
"The following link shows the steps required to perform a clean boot:"

Did you actually check out that link? 🙄

Do it like this and quit being difficult. 😉

I’ve run into two different headaches lately:
1. Every time I try to put my computer into sleep mode, things get weird... the screen goes dark, it looks like the system is about to shut down completely, but then immediately something triggers a wake-up, and I end up staring at the log-off screen instead. It's like the sleep mode just won't stick anymore, no matter what I do...

2. Then there's the issue with my messaging app: I set my status to appear offline, but the second I open up my Outlook inbox, it flips right back to being online. I have no idea why it keeps doing that...
plus, I've noticed some spam emails are being sent out from my account to my friends without me doing anything...

I’m pretty sure it’s some kind of virus, but my security software isn't catching anything... I tried running ESET, then I installed Avira, which actually flagged two Trojans, but honestly, it didn't fix the actual problem, and I even ran scans with Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes too, but still nothing has changed...

What would you all recommend I do to get this sorted out?

1. Right-click the desktop, hit Personalize, then go to Screen Saver (bottom right). Uncheck "On resume, display logon screen." From there, click "Change power settings," then "Change plan settings," and finally "Change advanced power settings." Look under Sleep, find "Allow wake timers," and select Disable.

2. Same thing happening here—whenever I set my status to Appear offline, clicking my Outlook inbox just forces open a web browser straight to the Outlook login page. It's absolute spam.🤷

1. Right-click on your desktop, go to Personalize, then click on Screen Saver down at the bottom right, and uncheck the box that says "On resume, display logon screen"... once you've done that, you'll see an option for "Change power settings" just below it, which takes you to "Change plan settings," and from there you can get into "Change advanced power settings" where you should look under the Sleep section for "Allow wake timers" and make sure to Disable them.

I managed to find my way over to those settings, but I’m honestly feeling a bit lost on what else I should be tweaking here... if you could just take a peek at how everything is set up on my end...

It used to be that whenever I set everything to sleep, things worked perfectly fine, and even if I waited about two hours and manually triggered sleep mode, it would stay put, but now, every single time I try to put the computer to sleep, it just immediately wakes itself back up and throws that log off screen right in my face...

Also, I was wondering, does anyone actually know the real difference between sleep mode and hibernation??

Honestly, there's barely any difference! The main thing is that during hibernation, your hard drive actually powers down, whereas in sleep mode, it stays active...

Yeah, my bad! I was totally half-asleep when I typed that up.

So, here’s the deal: when you hit hibernation, everything in your RAM gets dumped onto the hard drive and the computer shuts down completely. But with sleep mode? The PC stays technically "on." The hard drive stops spinning, sure, but the memory and the processor are still getting juice.
