I'm honestly not sure, but my best guess is 🙂 either there's a setting tucked away in your BIOS—maybe something related to the Numlock state, if you can even tell by looking at the indicator lights—or you could head over to the Device Manager, pull up the properties for those specific devices, and see if there's a setting in there worth tweaking.

I’ve run into a bit of a headache here, because when I first went to install Windows 7 on my hard drive, I ended up picking the wrong partition, and well, so I decided to just start over, wipe that partition, and install it onto the other one instead... but now, every single time I boot up this laptop, it keeps giving me this annoying dual boot menu for Windows 7... does anyone happen to know how I can get rid of that extra entry so it just boots straight into Windows normally?😕

Back on my old Windows machine, everything would just go dark once I powered down, but it doesn't work that way anymore.

I'm guessing you're using a newer USB keyboard and mouse, so since they draw power from the USB port, they stay lit up.
I guess there might not be a way to kill the lights.😢

My USB mouse is optical, and my keyboard is connected via PS/2, yet both of them stay lit up. Could this be a motherboard thing? Like, is it just the way this specific board is designed to constantly provide power to the keyboard and mouse? Does anyone know if there's a way to toggle this off in the BIOS? I’m honestly a little nervous about poking around in the BIOS settings without knowing what I'm doing—I don't want to accidentally mess anything up! 🙂

So, I started over, formatted that specific partition, and installed everything onto the correct one. But now, every single time I boot up my laptop, it keeps giving me that annoying dual-boot menu asking me to choose between two versions of Windows 7. It’s like the computer still thinks the old installation is hanging around. Does anyone know how I can scrub that extra entry out of the boot menu so it just loads my OS normally without all the extra clicking?😕

The program you're looking for is EasyBCD version 1.72. Just a heads-up: be extremely careful not to delete any critical boot entries. If you mess that up, you're looking at a massive headache. Seriously, do yourself a favor and hunt down a solid tutorial online before you touch anything.

Hopefully I’m in the right spot with this "issue" of mine. I haven't scrolled through the whole thread yet, so if this was already covered, thanks for bearing with me.

Basically, I've got an integrated webcam on my PC running Windows 7.

Is there some built-in tool in Windows 7 for this webcam, or am I going to have to download something? If so, any recommendations? Thanks.

You don't really need any extra software, man.

Your camera works fine—if you want to jump on a video call with someone, just grab Skype and you can actually see each other.

I'm guessing it's a laptop. You should probably check the manufacturer's site for the specific webcam software. Like, HP usually has an HP Webcam program or something similar.

A minor headache,
When I open a folder full of photos, nothing shows up as a thumbnail. It’s just the icon for whatever program is set as my default viewer. Not even a preview?

Does anyone know where the setting for this is hidden?

No, that’s not it. We're talking about something else entirely.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes:
I've heard some talk that Windows 7 doesn't really handle more demanding games very well. Is there any truth to that?🤷

Does anyone know how I can get file extensions to show up in my folders?
I mean, I want to see things like .mp3 or .rar right there in the name.

So—is "show only thumbnails" checked in those settings, or is it not?

Like, I want to see the .mp3 or .rar at the end of the names.

Go to the Control Panel (set it to View by : Large Icons), then hit Folder Options - View and just uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types." Hit OK and you should be good.

🙂

Does anyone know how to fix my taskbar settings? Right now, when I open MSN Messenger, it shows up as two separate entries instead of just one single icon. This is happening specifically with MSN and my own profile. I already tried digging through Properties, but I couldn't find anything helpful there. 🤷
If I'm not making enough sense, I'll post a screenshot later since I'm not sure how else to explain this issue. 😁
