Petar Skansi is leading the National Stadium Violence Task Force. Following the game, he confirmed there might actually be a chance they change the rules regarding banning away fans in MLS.
"The fans showed more maturity today than the club executives did. It’s the kind of maturity we should respect. If the fans are okay with sitting in the same stands, I don't see why we shouldn't allow it. We have to listen to their voice, especially if we're looking at what happened during this derby,"
"They really did show maturity, even in such a tense situation. I think after this, it will be possible to sit down and talk with all the supporter groups. Personally, I'm going to push for consulting with the fans to find the best way to make sure the game stays a sporting spectacle rather than just someone's ego trip," said the closest associate to the Secretary of Sport, Željko Jovanović.
It's worth noting that Zdravko Mamić actually managed to unite the fans through the fight against what they call repression. Do you guys honestly believe these scenes from a peaceful derby can become the norm?
"Today, they were united by authority. Like I said the other day, we can always reach an agreement on the rules. Rules exist to be respected, not forced upon people. They are about consensus, provided certain conditions are met. We will never agree to chaos in the stadiums. If the fans want to bring order back to soccer, my door is always open," he added.
