Anonymous said:Hey there, I’m a huge fan of all kinds of sword fighting techniques. Could anyone tell me if there are any well-known, solid clubs in places like San Diego or Seattle? As a thank you, I'll hook you up with a great source for high-quality Katana that won't break the bank.
Check out www.seppa.de. They have one of our guys working there, so communication shouldn't be an issue at all.
Miyamoto Katana

Greetings from San Diego! Here’s the link you need: It goes to the National Association where you can find a list of clubs and their contact info. Check it out and see which training schedule works best for you.

Regarding Horvat's private lessons, money is the most effective tool. If you show up consistently and pay him promptly, he won't just teach you—he'll convince you that he's done an impeccable job.

Leave some money on the table for a second and tell me what you're teaching wrong if you actually want me to take you seriously....

I simply don't care for his whole philosophy regarding martial arts. It's entirely negative. An angry approach, really.

I can't say for sure. I didn't experience him firsthand enough to know.
Essentially, I suppose I don't understand why people struggle with personality...
But it isn't particularly important to me.
I show up to training for the technique, regardless.
Outside of the gym, we could be best friends or we could barely acknowledge each other's existence.
But training is training.

As for attitudes toward martial arts, our perspectives differ quite significantly...

We've drifted a bit off-topic... though these are still useful insights.
I assume some higher authority won't come down hard on us...

😉

Let's try to keep the spamming to a minimum, shall we? This is an information thread, not a showroom for presentations... at least, that's my take on it. 😁

He’s been asking placidbison20 about this since the sub was created—guess the admin needs to flip a switch or something?

I'm looking to pick up these kind of gloves, but Power-Systems won't ship to the States. I found some similar ones on Amazon, but it’s the exact same headache. Does anyone know where I can actually get my hands on them (or something just like them)?

I think you could probably pick some up through Everlast. Maybe try looking for one of their retail spots around here.

Hey there. So, I've been thinking about getting into Jiu-Jitsu lately. I'm 16—which, I don't know, maybe I'm a little late to the party?—and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's too late to start? Also, if you wouldn't mind, could someone explain what the deal actually is with the sport? Like, what are we even doing down there on the mats?

It’s definitely not too late.
You have traditional Japanese jujutsu alongside various modern derivatives, such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Dennis Survival JJ, and things like that.
Some styles lean more toward competitive sport, while others focus more on practical application.

Looks like Everlast ships to America, but their gloves are only 1 lb each. I'm hunting for 2 lb ones. Thanks anyway though.

I guess I’m mostly just drawn to classic ju-jitsu, if I’m being honest

I have no idea if anyone actually does strictly traditional stuff here in the States.
Our training sessions include plenty of classic ju-jitsu, but we mix in a lot of other techniques too. I'm not sure if that's going to be an issue for you.

Kuzman teaches Tenjin Shinyo ryu, I think. Honestly, that’s probably the closest thing to "real" traditional ju-jutsu you’ll find unless you have connections or something... 🙂

Maybe we should actually consider giving Dinko a shot after all
