Guys, I need a quick answer here.

How does the GT 630 2GB DDR3 stack up against an old ATI 4670 512MB DDR3? Would it actually be faster, or not? Thanks. Keep it brief and to the point.

The 630 is faster.

The GT 630 is essentially just a rebranded GT 440. In my view, it's slightly more capable since it supports DX11 and features a newer architecture, plus it comes with more VRAM—though honestly, 2GB is total overkill for a chip of that caliber.

The GT 630 is a bit faster, I guess, but it’s all pretty underwhelming anyway

Thanks, the old config should work fine. I've got it sitting there for $63, and since the fan on my old Radeon 4670 just gave up the ghost, I don't see much point in fixing it. Just doesn't feel worth the effort 🙂, thanks

+ throw in that GT 630 and you've got a pretty solid machine.

Jeffrey Allen92, are you perhaps from Los Angeles? I feel like we might know each other 🙂. Your claims regarding that Intel Xeon seem somewhat questionable to me.

Look, I'm not trying to sell you anything, don't worry about that.😬

I just typed "q6600" into the search bar on Craigslist. I figured it would be a cheap option, and the search results pulled up that Intel Xeon too... I even saw a GT 630 for $83... honestly, it's a total rip-off 😁
.
That said, it really is old junk. The build those guys put together—that whole tower with the quad-core 7600 underneath $667—is actually a pretty solid little machine. If you stick with Intel, all you'd get for that kind of money is a quad-core N3150 and a GT 730, and that processor is weaker than the AMD solution. Even with an Intel Pentium N3700, it wouldn't hold up as well, though you could probably build the entire PC with passive cooling that way...

They were right, not me. The CPU is definitely the bottleneck. The best consumer i7s out there today hit around 210 GFLOPS according to LinX testing results... meanwhile, a high-end graphics card can push 20 TFLOPS...

It's just that hardware is ancient. That build these guys put together—a whole rig with quad-core 7600s underneath $667—is actually quite a solid little thing. If we're talking Intel, you could only get a quad-core N3150 and a GT 730 for that kind of money, but even then, the processor is weaker than the AMD solution... even with an Intel Pentium N3700 it would perform worse, though you could probably build the entire PC with passive cooling...

That GT 630 for $83? I actually picked one up on Craigslist about an hour ago for $63 😁

I have an LGA 775 motherboard.

I might just stab that Intel Xeon with a fork:klap: It's a good deal, but still...

Honestly, I could probably pick that Intel Xeon up with my eyes closed. It's a solid deal, but still...

If you're watching every single penny, and the processor works and fits your board, then why not?

Though, I have no idea what CPU you're running right now.

I'm going to go down a rabbit hole on Google looking at multi-processor workstations. There are some Opteron chips out there with insane clock speeds for next to nothing.

Actually, I’m not even sure which processor you’re running right now.

I think I'll go ahead and look up some multi-processor workstations online... there are those Opterons out there that can be clocked incredibly high for just a few bucks...

Albatron p35
e6550.

I have several different setups lying around; I do a little side hustle here and there, that's all.😁

But I'm an honest hustler—I enjoy helping people out by pointing them in the right direction, and occasionally they point me in the right direction too.👍

I actually have a few different setups running. I pick things up here and there, just keeping things moving.😁

I’m an honest guy about it, though. I enjoy helping people out by pointing them in the right direction, and sometimes they do the same for me.👍

Well, then you go ahead and find someone to buy my rig.

That processor of yours is a decent match for that GPU, though a quad-core would definitely feel more balanced....

Hey everyone,

So I need to swap out my GPU in a couple of days since I'm moving my old one to another build. I'm looking at: https://www.newsoutlets.com/graphics-card-review-07-2016.aspx

Here’s what I'm running:

Old GPU (AMD Radeon R9 280)
Intel i5 3350P @ 3.10ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M Le R2.0
2x Kingston 4gb DDR3
256gb SSD
750W power supply

I'm aiming for high-end 1080p gaming on max settings. Thanks in advance...

If you're dead set on getting a GTX 1060, there are honestly cheaper ways to go...Grab a Palit for $0.83 or maybe $0.79 if you want to save some cash☕

The thing is, media outlets claim none of this is actually happening. When it comes to getting your hands on Gainward or Palit cards, you’re basically at the mercy of distributors like Micro Center because they control the supply chain.

Timothy Kim60 said:The whole thing is just how media outlets claim none of this actually matters. If you're looking for Gainward or Palit cards, Best Buy is usually your best bet since they handle all the major imports.

If I remember correctly, H2 Shop is basically a small-time competitor to Best Buy, and they can be a bit cheaper sometimes...

Look, both Media outlets and News outlets say "available for order"... if we're going by what they write, then it's all the same crap😉

From my experience dealing with the 1080, you can pretty much forget about anything labeled "available for order." 😬 Especially when you're reading stuff from the big media outlets.
