I'm looking for some nephrology recommendations. If anyone has any firsthand experience or has heard anything through the grapevine, let me know!
Who are the best nephrologists in the US? I need someone where you aren't waiting months just to get an appointment.

In my opinion, Jane Doe over at Mercury is great. It’s a standard referral, maybe about a month's wait. The only thing is you might run a few hours behind schedule because she actually takes the time to sit down with every patient.

I don't really have any leads on others. Good luck.👍

If anyone could recommend a solid orthopedist or rheumatologist around Washington, D.C., I’d be super grateful! 👍
Maybe someone covered by Medicare, or even just a private specialist if needed 😉

Can anyone point me toward a solid oral surgery clinic or maybe a hospital that handles this kind of thing around Washington, D.C.? I’m willing to travel anywhere else in the States if I have to. I need to get a leftover tooth pulled. Does anyone happen to know what the damage usually looks like price-wise for an operation like that? If you have suggestions, just shoot me a DM. Thanks.

Can someone please give me a recommendation for an endocrinologist in Washington, D.C.? You can just shoot me a DM if that's easier, I don't really care how you do it.

Has anyone here registered with Dr. Helena Šimurina over at the community health center in the suburban neighborhood at 31a? I’m wondering what your experiences have been like with her so far. I think it’s a new branch for the community health center. I actually caught a glimpse of her office today—it's in that building right by Baschiera pizza. It looks really nice and modern, just a small clinic, I guess. I only saw it from the outside since the door was cracked open a bit. Since my current doctor is retiring soon, I've started looking for a new GP. If you happen to have any other recommendations for a good general practitioner who is currently taking new patients, please let me know. You can even send me a private message. Ideally, somewhere around the suburban neighborhood, downtown, or Brooklyn.

Hello there!

I see everyone is giving Dr. Štimac such glowing reviews. Does anyone happen to know what the typical cost is for a single filling over at their office?

I was wondering if anyone here might have some firsthand experience working with Dr. Mirjana Lelas, the dentist located over by Times Square.
I've been on the hunt for a new provider lately, which is always such a tedious process, and I happened to come across this 🙂 entry for Dr. Antunović, who is also a dentist, if anyone there happens to know their work.
Thanks a million! 🙂

Hey there! Does anyone happen to know of a good private lab where I can get my thyroid hormone levels checked without breaking the bank?

Thanks so much!

I know this is a total tangent from the main topic, but I’ve got a question about Medicare and supplemental insurance coverage. Does anyone know exactly what dental services are covered under those plans? If anyone has a link to a breakdown of the benefits, please send it my way! I went to see my dentist recently—she takes Medicare—and she charged me $33 just to have a tooth pulled. Then she mentioned that starting a treatment plan would cost $33, and finishing up (like actually getting the filling placed) would run anywhere from $150 to $67. I totally get that composite white fillings aren't usually fully covered, but the charge just to *start* the process feels a little weird to me. To top it off, when I asked about the bill, she told me she wouldn't even hand it over until the treatment was completely finished! Can someone help me make sense of this?

Hey everyone... I wanted to pick your brains about how you actually go about picking your first primary care doctor, dentist, and all that other essential stuff.

Since I'm still relatively new here, I haven't managed to settle in with a permanent GP yet, so I'm curious about how the whole system works... I've got my Medicare coverage sorted out, obviously... and I’m actually heading out to get some supplemental insurance this week, then I guess there's a whole mountain of paperwork to tackle afterward, right? Anyway, since I'm living over in Brooklyn, it would be incredibly convenient if I could just get everything handled through the Brooklyn Police Department clinic area—or wherever the local providers are centered. I’d be super grateful if someone could walk me through the process or maybe point me toward someone reliable... Thanks a million! 🙂

I guess I’d suggest checking out the Breyer lab over on Broadway, just a few stops before you hit the Brooklyn terminus. They are honestly so kind, and they usually email your results later that same afternoon. You can always swing by to pick up the hard copies afterward if you want. There isn't any need to make an appointment or deal with huge crowds either; you can just show up whenever you like in the morning. I actually went there myself back in March this year. I had a full blood count, liver and kidney panels, and my sedimentation rate checked. I paid for everything through Medicare $60, but they really did cover a lot of ground for me. Maybe give them a call to ask about the cost for thyroid hormone testing? They have a website that lists all their services, though they don't seem to include the prices online.

So, I guess you first pick out a primary care doctor you actually want to see, and then you just ask them if they're taking on new patients. If they say yes, the nurse will give you some paperwork filled out with all the info from your insurance card. You’ll have to take those papers over to one of the Medicare offices on Fifth Avenue or Jukić to get everything verified. Once you have those certified documents, you head back to the doctor's office and hand over one copy of the application. I think... maybe? You can actually start seeing that doctor the very same day. As soon as you hand that paper over, you're officially registered with them.

So, here's how you play it: first, you pick out a primary care physician you actually like, then you just give them a call to see if they're currently taking on any new patients. If they say yes, the nurse will hand you a form that’s already been pre-filled with all the info from your Medicare card. Now, you can't just leave it there—you'll have to head over to one of the Medicare offices on Fifth Avenue or Jukić to get those documents officially stamped and verified. Once you've got that certified paperwork back in hand, you swing back by your doctor's office and hand them a copy of the application. And honestly, the best part is that you're effectively set right then and there; as soon as you drop that paper off, you're officially on their roster and can start getting treated by them that very same day.

Thanks a million, mistyjackal842! 🙂

Does anyone happen to know of a private clinic over in the Trnje area that happens to be owned by Dr. Pavlovic?

Hi,
I need some info on two things...
Does picking a primary care doctor depend on where you live?
(Like... if I'm living in Remetinec, am I stuck with a doctor from their local clinic or what?)
I just moved to Chicago—coming from a small town where there aren't really neighborhoods, just one big clinic for the whole place and total chaos 🙂
If that's how it works... then please give me a recommendation for a GP from the Remetinec clinic because... I can't find anything online, either it doesn't exist or I'm just missing it 🙂

I would honestly suggest checking out the Breyer private lab over on Broadway; it’s just a few stops away from the Brooklyn terminal. There’s no need to book an appointment or deal with massive crowds either—you can just wander in whenever you feel like it in the morning. Thanks so much, mistyjackal842! In the end, I actually ended up going to the Bates clinic to check two hormones $47. They send the blood samples off to the Democratic Party, so it might be a smart move to reach out to the lab directly to see if you can snag a better deal.
Best,
