I'm running Windows Server 2003 here and I can't for the life of me figure out where the BIOS settings are hidden

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Like, where do I actually find this thing?

Thanks in advance

The plan is to overclock the processor

Just tell me where the BIOS is at, and I'll handle the rest of the tinkering myself

Cheers

😕

I’ve been scouring Google for ages, but honestly, there isn't a single decent explanation out there somewhere.

And that stuff you guys were just talking about? I’m totally lost.

Can someone please walk me through it again, but maybe... simpler?

Where am I even supposed to find the BIOS?

When I type it into the search bar, it just spits out a bunch of random junk that claims to be the BIOS,

but none of it is the actual thing.

The real BIOS.

🤷

When you reboot your PC, just hit the Delete key right as it starts up. Honestly, everything you need to know is displayed right there on the screen, so just
read it.

So I hit delete

and this screen pops up

start normally
start safe mode
safe mode with networking
last known good configuration

whenever I mash F2, F3, F4...
any of them
or just hit delete
it always shows up for me

I don't get it

you have any clue why?

🤷

wiredmarlin5 said:Any P45/X38/X48 can push a quad past 3.6GHz, though it really depends on whether you're running a B3 or G0 stepping. My advice? Grab a cheap X38 board like a DFI from The Spot for $367 or just go with a Gigabyte or ASUS P45.

Nice.

I've had my eye on this Abit Intel Core i7 for a while. I did some digging on Google 😁 but figured I'd ask here before pulling the trigger on these three options. 🙂

I just need a solid board that handles overclocking well. My current one won't let me push the quad past 300 FSB.
Still, it's served me okay for nearly two years.

Gilbert, were you thinking of this one?

One more thing—what’s the actual difference between the DS4 and the DS5? Is it worth shelling out almost $133 extra for the DS5?

Didn't want to start a whole new thread, but this isn't exactly pocket change, so I don't want to waste money on something that won't work. 🤣

Can't wait to get this quad properly clocked so I can come back here and brag about it. 😁

Is it even worth dropping the cash on this premium motherboard?

$133
Honestly, for such a tiny bump in performance, it's basically nothing.

Just grab it.

Man, you're out of your mind

Look at those CPU and GPU temps

The motherboard is fine, it's not overheating all that bad
but the processor and GPU... man, that's brutal

That definitely ain't normal

@user, look, your CPU and GPU temps are running a bit high—but honestly, given it's summer right now, that isn't exactly shocking... you might want to try blowing out the dust from your rig, specifically the heatsinks on the processor and the graphics card.

@darkotter33/">@@darkotter33, no need to go full cannibal on him just yet! 😛

EDIT: if it helps, my temperatures are basically identical to yours—the only difference is my GPU sits at 56°.

The GPU temperature looks perfectly normal to me—there’s absolutely nothing to worry about there.
The CPU is running a bit higher than I'd like to see... perhaps it's time to give the cooler a quick dusting and apply some fresh thermal paste?

So, I gave my rig a deep clean just two days ago
and now the CPU is actually running a bit cooler than before

Dropped about 6 degrees, and
the motherboard's down by 2

The BIOS just won't show up when I boot the PC

🙂
I'm hitting Delete
but nothing happens
instead, I just get hit with Start Safe Mode
Start Safe Mode with Networking

and all that crap...
I have no clue what's going on

🙂
I'm pressing delete.
And nothing else.
The "Start in Safe Mode" prompt keeps appearing.
To boot into Safe Mode with Networking, you can follow these steps. It’s a bit more involved than a standard restart, but it should get you where you need to be if you're troubleshooting connectivity issues. First, you'll need to access the Advanced Boot Options menu. If you're running a recent version of Windows, the easiest way is to hold down the Shift key while selecting "Restart" from the Power menu in your Start menu. Once the system reboots into the blue recovery environment, navigate to **Troubleshoot** > **Advanced options** > **Startup Settings**, and then click **Restart**. After the computer restarts again, you'll see a list of options numbered 1 through 9. Use your arrow keys to highlight option **5** (Safe Mode with Networking) and press Enter. This will load the minimal driver set required for your internet connection, allowing you to troubleshoot without all the extra background processes interfering.

It doesn't matter...
I don't quite follow.

On my graphics card (an NVIDIA 6200LE), there isn't even a fan installed. Also, does anyone know which thermal paste would be the best choice for my processor?

It isn't exactly top-of-the-line, but it’s solid enough and definitely a great value for the money.

I was browsing through some search results on a comparison site earlier, looking specifically for "Ceramiq," and I thought I’d share the link for anyone else hunting for similar products or pricing info. It's a handy little tool if you're trying to track down specific items across different retailers. http://www.amazon.com/s?k=ceramiq

Honestly, a GPU can hit 90°C without any real issues or danger
