Do you happen to have a motherboard jumper to reset the BIOS? 🙄 You should check your manual—mine doesn't actually have one. Or, did you try pulling the battery out of the board? 3. No.

Basically, you just reset your BIOS back to the factory defaults. And with those default settings, the processor isn't overclocked, and everything else is stuck at 5.

My motherboard is about three years old, a Gigabyte GA-7N400-L, so I doubt it has an auto-recovery feature... 😁
I definitely have the battery, though. 🙂

I wouldn't actually recommend that approach—it’s pretty delicate work. Honestly, he's better off leaving it alone; just give it a thorough cleaning, apply some fresh paste, and he should be good to go...

OT: I’m genuinely curious to see how long Teddy can hold out with that signature of his....🤣

@OT:In my opinion? Not very long at all.🤷

So, I tried my hand at overclocking, but it was a total bust—thank goodness for the CMOS battery saving me! > Is there any software out there that handles this so I don't have to mess around in the BIOS? Something similar to how MSI Afterburner works for graphics cards.
I read somewhere online that my processor could potentially hit 2.5 GHz (Intel Pentium 4), but I can't seem to find the multiplier or the system bus settings in my BIOS. All I managed to do was bump the system clock up to 166, and then the whole thing just crashed on reboot.

Maybe if Andrew Fox74 posts on the hardware forum, he'll actually have some credibility for once...😂 🙏

One more question. When I reset the CMOS, my PC tells me I have an Intel Pentium 4, but once I tweak a few settings in the BIOS, it claims it's an Intel Pentium 4 again, which is totally confusing—now I don't even know which CPU I actually have...?! Why does this happen, and am I overclocking my CPU when it displays the 2400+ rating?

Honestly, he’s been holding steady for about two weeks now. 😁

But I definitely still have the battery. 🙂

I have the 7n400-pro2. Same exact mess. No jumpers, no automatic settings, just the battery to worry about.
As for overclocking? I gave up on that. Since I only have two multipliers to choose from, it’s either 2500+ or 3200+, nothing in between.

Hey

So I was just scrolling through some forums😂 checking out how people handle OC.
Is it really as easy as they make it sound in those guides???
If you aren't sure which videos I'm talking about, just type "overclocking" into the YouTube search bar.

I've got a 7n400-pro2 myself. It's basically useless. There isn't even a jumper or any automation available; you just have to pull the battery.
As for overclocking, I've given up on it. Even then, I only have two multiplier options to choose from, so it's either a 2500+ or a 3200+.

Ah, at least you actually have the multipliers! I can't find them anywhere. I look at some screenshots and see people using the Registry Mechanic... inside the BIOS, apparently, but I wouldn't know how to find that if I didn't already know. I hit CTRL + F1 and just get a few extra options under advanced chipset stuff or whatever, but there's absolutely no sign of the multiplier.

I try hitting CTRL + F1 and all I get is a bunch of extra options under advanced chipset stuff or whatever, but there's absolutely no sign of a multiplier setting.

I was under the impression that most CPUs only support a single multiplier unless they're unlocked or a mobile version. I can't adjust the multipliers through the motherboard either; I think you have to use specific jumpers on the board (look for clk_ratio in the manual). Personally, I just bumped it up using the Front Side Bus. I pushed it to 200 and my CPU jumped from 2500+ (1.8) straight to 3200+ (2.2).

p.s. these American boards don't have MIT support.

Next time, I’ll make sure to do some proper research before I pull the trigger on anything $#&[€÷ß!¤!!!
If I can track down the manual, I'll take a look, but something isn't adding up... You mentioned an AMD Athlon 3000+ at 1.8 GHz, but I've got a 2400+ running at 2.0 GHz. How does that work? Maybe I just don't understand this stuff as well as I thought I did 😁

I think it all comes down to the core architecture. My processor uses a Barton core, so it runs at a lower clock speed, but it has more cache and stays cooler (at least, I think it does). Plus, the Front Side Bus is higher, whereas yours is a Thoroughbred....

Ahaaaaaa... I see where you're coming from now. Thanks for putting in the effort 😉

By the way, what are your current specs? I don't think I caught them earlier...

No big deal, I just stumbled upon this by accident and figured I'd just copy and paste it here.

James Morris4 said:By the way, what's your current setup? I don't think I caught your specs earlier...

Motherboard: 7N400-Pro2 Rev 1.0
AMD Athlon 2500+, Volcano 12 cooler... what are we looking at here?
RAM setup: 2x 512MB, 333MHz.
Graphics card situation: I had an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro flashed to run like a 9800SE—honestly, such a legendary card—but it finally kicked the bucket. So now? It’s just an ATI Radeon 7200.😁 Time to go out and grab some new gear.

How much headroom can I actually get out of an AMD Athlon 3000+? Right now, I'm running at 1.8GHz and looking to push it further.

I’m running into some confusion again (?!)... I’ve been messing with some jumpers on my motherboard—if that’s what those little switches are called, specifically the clk_ratio—toggling them between on and off like usual. I found some specific combinations for the multipliers in the manual. However, when I shut down the PC, set those "switches" to the 12.5 combination, and boot back up, the multiplier is stuck at 15 again. There’s also this clk_sw setting that I haven't quite figured out yet; I’ve tried everything, switching it on and off, but nothing changes. Does anyone know why it isn't responding?

It's likely that your processor is locked... which means you're stuck with whatever you've got (that single multiplier). Your only real option for changing the frequency is through the Front Side Bus.

I think this might be it, but honestly, you should probably do a little more digging on Google just to be safe
