Portland Thorns vs. Seattle Reign F+2 @1.80 SS (3-1)

The Portland squad coming off a 12-0 blowout two days ago, so I’m thinking they’re just on a different level than these opponents.
I guess anything can happen in women's soccer, but this feels like a safe bet to me. In my experience, the favorites in this league tend to cover the handicap by a wide margin pretty frequently.

What are your thoughts on this matchup? 🙂

I’m leaning toward a win here, though honestly, these Moldovan teams are such a low-level amateur outfit that they don't really serve as much of a benchmark.

One of the teams in that region just dismantled them 12-0, and another squad—I think they played a side from somewhere near Chicago today—put up a massive 19-0.

Even their neighbors, playing against a Greek side, managed a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The match should be available for live betting, so I think I'll just sit tight and wait for that.

Look, can we please just collectively agree—for once—that this isn't the place to live-comment on things as they're actually happening.

Houston Dynamo vs. FC Dallas 1 2,40 (1-3)

I’m placing my bet on this matchup early because I’m terrified the odds will drop; right now, they’re looking fantastic. There’s a chance the line could shift if this ends up being a "lock," but I’m not about to leave anything to chance.

As most of you probably already know, Houston Dynamo got knocked out by Aalborg in the Champions League third qualifying round, which has landed them in a massive mess—they’re stuck playing in the Europa League third qualifying stage now. Even though Houston is technically the seeded team here, the draw handed them one of the toughest possible opponents: Petrolul from Ploiesti. They are one of the few financially stable clubs in their region, and the vibe around the club is electric—which makes sense given they’ve kicked off their season with three straight wins (+8 goal difference) and just dismantled Viktoria Plzen (who haven't been in the big leagues for ages) with a massive 4-1 away victory in the previous round. As far as names go, they’ve got one of the absolute legends of soccer on the squad—Adrian Mutu—and even at 36, he’s still dangerous and serves as the heartbeat of this team, having already bagged two goals in three league matches. The rest of the roster consists mostly of nobodies, but let me tell you, they are high-quality nobodies, mostly foreign imports. Houston actually faced Petrolul during the preseason and lost 2-0—and honestly, that could have easily been a blowout, especially since the Romanians played without six of their starters.

Houston's recent signings (if you can even call them that) have shown absolutely nothing so far, and they even brought in a few more after that total disaster. So, the current list of "new" players looks like this: two guys from Canada, Boras, Sigali, Ibanez, Eduardo, Vukojevic, Goncalo, Pjaca, Machado, and Henrique. Based on these first few games of the new season, they look completely disjointed and frankly lack individual talent; I seriously doubt that Vukojevic or Henrique will provide any help against these guys. They even struggled this past Saturday against a team in Osijek that shouldn't even be in the same conversation with Houston unless the big boss Mamic decides otherwise. We are talking about a ruined club with zero fan support, a coach who seemingly knows nothing about football and has zero confidence, facing off against a highly organized squad with a manager who actually knows what he's doing and a whole team riding a wave of euphoria. If you connect the dots on that, it's pretty obvious: it's a straight win for Petrolul.
Last year, Petrolul beat Swansea at home in the fourth qualifying round, and just two weeks ago, they held Plzen to a draw.

Bale to score at 2.50

Look, Ronaldo just barely made it back to training after being sidelined—and you’ve got guys like Rodriguez, Modric, Benzema, and a few others only just catching up with preseason drills. Bale is the only one who actually looks rested. He’s cruised through the full preseason schedule, already bagged two goals in exhibition matches, and he's playing right there in his hometown. It's a no-brainer.

I was actually just about to suggest that very same course of action. It seems quite reasonable.
As for that upcoming match, what is our strategy? Has anyone been keeping an eye on how they performed in their friendlies against Sevilla? They look like they’re desperately lacking firepower. To be honest, their preseason form hasn't been particularly impressive. On top of that, Iker has been announced, and he’s been struggling with his form for quite some time now... While my initial thought was to go with an Under, we have to remember this is a competitive fixture—a genuine opportunity to secure the first trophy of the season. Perhaps a 3+ goal total? I can't say for certain...

Edit: where on earth did Bale's 2.5 line disappear?

The player anytime goal odds are sitting at 7.00, while the over 2.50 mark is at 2.50. Same deal for the anytime scorer markets—it’s 2.50 there too.

Honestly, I don't think preseason games mean anything when it comes to predicting the actual season. Even if this ends up being a 1-1 draw, I’m betting Gareth finds the back of the net. 🙂 But let's be real—I'm expecting more goals from Real Madrid...

I was monitoring the PSK lines earlier and the odds were sitting at 2.25. Unless they’ve made an adjustment since then, I wouldn't know; I missed it on the screenshot. It is a perpetual struggle—I am listening, yet I see nothing; I am watching, yet I hear nothing.🙂

Carling Cup, England

Millwall - Wycombe 1 @1.50 SS (1-0)

Millwall started the season reasonably well, coming off a 2-0 win against Leeds.
They have struggled in the Championship over the last few years, though they have historically performed well in cup competitions.
Their opponent is Wycombe from League Two, who barely avoided relegation to the Conference last season, finishing 22nd.
I suppose the question is how seriously individual clubs take this tournament, but I suspect Millwall is the superior side and should handle this at home quite easily.

Rapid Vienna - Altach 1 1.80 (0-1)

Gotta admit, when I first saw these odds, they looked a bit off... Rapid is a solid squad—anything other than a win here would be a massive shock. They’ve been drawing their last two league matches, so I’m expecting them to snap that streak today and walk away with all three points...

Looking at the history, Rapid has beaten Altach three times at home, lost once way back in 2007, and pulled off a draw in the cup two years ago before winning on penalties (4-2). Honestly, I'm even thinking about taking the spread at F+2 for this one.

Celje - Maribor Celje to score 1.50 (3-1)
Maribor has a brutal Champions League matchup coming up, so there's zero doubt their coach is going to rest some key starters. That's where I see the opening—Celje should be able to find the net at least once. Wouldn't be surprised if Celje walks away with at least a point here. 😁

Nyiregyhaza - Videoton 2 1.65 (0-2)

Videoton is just a class above the hosts. Expecting an easy three points for the visitors here... the odds are too good to pass up. 😁

Is this the matchup against the Split Sharks? They’ve certainly looked sharper since getting some key players back into the lineup, but let’s be honest—those were just domestic league matches. They’ve built up this inflated sense of confidence, and I suspect a rude awakening is coming their way soon. Even though the game is being played at a neutral site, Dnipro still holds the upper hand. If Dnipro were playing on their home turf, the odds would likely be even lower. They’re missing their star player due to injury, but I have a nagging feeling they might just put on a clinic against the Americans. To be fair, their recent exit against Copenhagen caught me off guard, but then again, seeing them hold their own against Bayer Leverkusen yesterday tells a different story. If I weren't sitting here in the States, I probably would have backed the Americans without a second thought, but there's a certain patriotic hesitation holding me back. 🙂 Honestly, you have to take the 1.5 on Dnipro; it’s the logical play, especially with the spread. I’m anticipating a gritty, ugly affair... potentially one that's entirely unwatchable. 🙂

I’m taking the double handicap against the LA Galaxy. 😁

Dnipro (-2.5) - LA Galaxy 1 @ 4.25 FanDuel (2-1)

Judging by the roster, Dnipro looks remarkably similar to their squads from previous seasons—teams I've watched a few times in European play who were quite good, if not exceptional.
Looking at this season's results and a few highlights, they remain consistently strong.
Even without Konoplyanka, and despite the absence of Zozulya, they seem like a potent, stable, cohesive unit—and if memory serves, lethal on the counter.

The Galaxy, once again, are riding a wave of euphoria after a string of wins, but let's be realistic—they aren't an elite side, at least not at this stage of the tournament.
That 6-0 blowout against San Diego doesn't impress me much; I've seen San Diego play three times this season, and their defense is a disaster—nearly every transition through the midfield turns into a clear scoring chance for the opposition.
We all saw how shaky the Galaxy defense looked against Seattle and FC Dallas in the opening match, so I seriously doubt they won't concede multiple times today.
Dnipro is a seasoned squad, regulars in European competition, and they'll certainly want to settle the progression issue as quickly as possible.

A three-goal margin isn't out of the question; we saw against Dundalk and Seattle how easily the Galaxy can fall apart when the scoreline isn't going their way. Dnipro will likely press from the opening whistle, and I expect an early goal—likely within the first 20 minutes.

In my view, this is a solid value play.

Standard Liège vs. Zenit St. Petersburg 2 @ PSK 2.00 (0-1)

Following yesterday's five Champions League playoff matches, we have the remaining five on the schedule tonight. In Belgium, Standard Liège will host the wealthy Zenit side at their home stadium. After knocking out Panathinaikos in the third qualifying round, Standard now faces a much more talented opponent. Their manager, Guy Luzon, believes this squad has the depth to reach the Champions League semifinals. However, the Belgian side isn't exactly playing well lately. They’ve struggled through their domestic league schedule, suffering a setback at home against Gent before getting hammered 5-2 by Royal Mouscron in the last round. On top of that poor form, they are dealing with a massive injury crisis. Luzon is missing Stam, Milec, De Sart, Carcela-Gonzalez, and Yuji Ono. There are also doubts regarding Trebel and Mujangi Bia. Given these setbacks, the home manager is giving his team a mere 5% chance of advancing. He was particularly impressed by Zenit's dominant performance in the second leg of the third qualifying round, where they cruised past AEL Limassol with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Rondón, Danny, and Kerzhakov. While Standard is stumbling domestically, Zenit is rolling through their season with four wins in four games and an impressive 15-2 goal difference. Their only hiccup was that away loss in Cyprus during the third round, but AEL had no real chance of pulling off an upset in St. Petersburg against André Villas-Boas's squad. The visiting manager is being cautious, noting that both teams are close to Champions League qualification, but he won't hide that his primary focus remains winning the Russian league and securing the best possible seeding in Europe. Regarding roster issues, the Portuguese coach is missing Witsel due to suspension and Malafeev due to injury.

Zenit enters this match as the heavy favorite, especially when you consider Standard's injury list and their recent dip in domestic form. Zenit is the superior side. I believe that loss in Cyprus served as a necessary lesson on how not to play away in European competition. Despite what Manager Luzon says, Standard won't roll over easily, but I don't think they have the quality to pull off anything special here. While a high-scoring draw would suit Zenit, I expect Hulk and his teammates to take full advantage and secure their spot in the Champions League group stage. TIP2.

Inverness vs. Celtic Glasgow – picking the away win @ 1.70 (1-0)

Honestly, Celtic looks totally wiped out after that massive season-defining clash against Maribor—they're looking way more vulnerable than they did last year
Plus, why would they even bother grinding out a tough defensive battle? They’ve already got the championship in the bag anyway, so what’s the point?

I’m playing Ploiești solo today, but I'm going for a double on this one:

Seattle Sounders vs. Sheriff Tiraspol 1 1.50 (1-0)
Here’s how Seattle has fared at home in European competition over the last couple of seasons:
vs. Prestatyn Town 5-0, vs. Zilina 2-1, vs. Stuttgart 2-1, vs. Betis 1-1, vs. Lyon 1-1, vs. Vitoria Guimaraes 0-0, vs. Ferencvaros 1-0, vs. Vikingur 4-0.
Looking at the stats from last season through this one, Seattle is absolutely dominant at home in MLS, racking up 13 wins and 7 draws. When you factor in their European home matches, they sit at an incredible 18 wins and 10 draws—not a single loss! This season specifically, the squad has been untouchable, winning every single match they've played, including preseason, European qualifiers, the Supporters' Shield, and regular league play. In five home games this term, they've only conceded two goals. The manager has really pushed this group to its absolute peak, and the logical conclusion to this run would be qualifying for the Europa League group stage. They’ve drawn the easiest possible opponent to make that happen, so half the work is done; now the players have to step up and finish it. A clean sheet victory would be the perfect result here. Since the coach is always so tactically disciplined, I don't expect them to just charge blindly forward from the first whistle, but with the attack—especially the main striker—performing so brilliantly, I have zero doubts they'll find the back of the net. As for Sheriff, they've dominated their local league for years, so their domestic form doesn't mean much in a European context. All we really know is that they recently switched managers and have a full squad available. Personally, I think Seattle is far superior to Sheriff, especially playing at their home stadium, which has become a total fortress. It's going to be tough for those visitors to walk away with even a draw here, let alone a win, but we'll see what happens in the second leg.

>Trabzonspor vs. FK Rostov 1 1.60 (2-0)
Trabzonspor has brought in Vaha to lead the bench, along with signings like Cardoza (from Benfica), Yilmaz (from Kayserispor), Constanta (from Benfica), and Ekici (from Werder). They’ve bolstered the roster significantly and are clearly eyeing a deep run in the Europa League. Since the Turkish league hasn't kicked off yet, there isn't much data on their current rhythm, but we can say plenty about Rostov. The Russian league is already four rounds in, and Rostov is struggling miserably with just one point to their name. They lost their Super Cup matchup against CSKA 3-1, got hammered by Dynamo 7-3, drew 2-2 with Kuban, and dropped games 2-1 to Lokomotiv and 2-0 to Krasnodar. They’re sitting at a dismal 7:16 goal difference across those five matches. Given the intense atmosphere in Turkey and the fresh talent Trabzonspor has brought in, this version of Rostov simply doesn't stand a chance.

Austrian Bundesliga - Rapid 1 @ 2.40 (2-2)

The Austrian side still hasn't snagged a win in the league yet—can you believe that?—but they're already sitting right there in second place just behind Red Bull Salzburg. Honestly, Rapid looks way weaker than they did last season and they're looking pretty gassed too... I mean, they just dropped a 2-1 game against HJK, so they’ll probably just play it safe today to save some energy for the rematch, right?

LA Galaxy vs. LAFC Both Teams to Score YES 1.70 @ DraftKings (1-0)

The second leg of this cup matchup is finally here. After the first game at SoFi Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, the action moves to the home turf. Last season, this stadium was an absolute fortress for everyone except for Real Madrid, who managed a clean 2-0 win during the tournament semifinals. Since Atletico holds the advantage from the first leg, they have the luxury of starting from a draw, but trying to play for a scoreless tie against an offense as potent as Real's isn't a winning strategy. In that first meeting, despite the 1-1 scoreline, Real completely controlled the tempo and created more opportunities. Meanwhile, the home coach relied on his signature aggressive, gritty philosophy to claw back a vital goal. Even after losing key players like Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois, this squad has remained incredibly resilient. Playing in front of this crowd, it won't be easy for Real to overcome the away-goal disadvantage held by the home side. On the injury front, the hosts will be missing Arda Turan, which is a significant blow to their structure. On the other side, the manager likely won't have Cristiano Ronaldo available tonight, though having James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos on hand should help bridge that gap. One interesting stat: since the current manager took over, the Galacticos haven't lost a single two-legged series. Because the home team is currently ahead, I expect Real to hunt for a goal from the opening whistle to stay in contention for the trophy. However, if the home side could find the net at SoFi, I believe they can do it again in front of their own fans. For a modest stake, my play is both teams to score.

Everton vs. Arsenal: Both Teams to Score at 1.7 odds @ FanDuel (2-2)

We have Week 2 of the Premier League scheduled today. The marquee matchup takes place at Goodison Park as Everton hosts Arsenal. This marks Everton's first home game after a 2-2 draw away against Leicester last weekend. Even though Everton faces an Arsenal side currently sandwiched between Champions League playoff fixtures, manager Roberto Martinez isn't looking for an advantage there. He noted that while a different opponent might be distracted by the schedule, Arsenal is too professional to let that affect their rhythm. Everton will be missing Kone, Barkley, and Oviedo for this one. Meanwhile, the visitors are dealing with a growing injury list. Arsene Wenger is without Ospina, Diaby, Walcott, Miyachi, Gnabry, Arteta, and Gibbs. On the bright side, Mertens, Ozil, and Podolski are likely to return to the lineup. Arsenal opened their season with a gritty 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates, secured by a Ramsey goal in stoppage time. In their last meeting, Everton dominated with a 3-0 victory featuring goals from Lukaku and Naismith, plus an Arteta own goal. Given Everton's shaky performance against Leicester, I don't expect another blowout. Arsenal also struggled through their recent matches, grinding out a win against Palace and a scoreless draw in the Champions League. Both sides possess plenty of attacking talent. It should be enough to see both teams find the back of the net.

Sunderland vs. Manchester United: 2-1, 1.85 @ PSK (1-1)

Manchester United has kicked off this season with the exact same momentum they carried through last year: none. After a strong preseason tour across the States, fans were convinced the front office made the right call by hiring Louis van Gaal. That confidence evaporated quickly when they dropped their home opener against Swansea in a disappointing 2-1 loss. There is one bright spot heading into this matchup, though. The club's star striker, Robin van Persie, is back. A player who netted 39 goals in 58 Premier League appearances for United, he’s finally fit. The manager noted his genuine relief at having him ready for this fixture. Still, the injury list remains a headache. Van Gaal is currently missing four key midfielders: Herrera, Fellaini, Lingard, and Carrick. Sunderland opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against West Brom. Looking back at last season, Sunderland actually pulled off a 1-0 upset against United in the cup at Old Trafford. However, in their most recent league meeting at the Stadium of Light, United walked away with a 2-1 victory. Sunderland held the lead at halftime, but Januzaj took over in the second half, scoring both goals to secure the win. Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is feeling optimistic ahead of his home opener. He noted that opening day always brings a certain energy, especially when facing a global powerhouse like Manchester United. To pull off an upset, he believes his squad needs to play nearly flawlessly and remain disciplined on defense. It is worth noting that Sunderland hasn't beaten Manchester United on their own turf in 17 years. Despite the stumble against Swansea, the talent gap favors United, and Van Persie’s return should provide the offensive boost the Red Devils desperately need. Motivation isn't an issue here, particularly for Van Gaal. "Two weeks ago I was the king of Manchester; now I'm the villain," he might as well have said. United is a much better side than the one that choked against Swansea. At 1.85, I am taking the away win.

Personally, I’d take a bit of a gamble here and call a 1-1 draw—or even go with the tie—maybe even both teams finding the net in the first half given the odds. 🤷
What’s your take on that?
