we're actually heading over to Sugarland this Saturday—my husband realized out of nowhere that his buddy and his wife host a little get-together there 😂 so we're going to swing by and see if we can strike it lucky 🙂

The pastries there are fantastic; personally, I'd put them right up there with Emma, though they were about two bucks more expensive, so Emma ended up winning me over.🙂

I guess I’ll just have to lean on Emma and Curkeraj if none of my own ideas actually take off...

If we’re talking about Emi’s bakery over on Malešnica... I just can’t get into their sweets...
They all seem to have this exact same profile to me... way too creamy, almost like those heavy custard cakes or old-fashioned sponge desserts... I don't know, it's just not hitting the spot for me!!!!
My personal recommendation would be Kašnar's pastry shop... their treats are absolutely fantastic... they taste truly homemade, and they're such lovely little bites!!!!

The local bakery is struggling to stay afloat, and their prices have climbed to $33per pound. I personally find their cakes to be exceptional, though the cookies are merely decent. My wife insists on using pure butter instead of margarine, avoiding all those artificial powders, dyes, and preservatives. That is precisely why they command a premium. They maintain a website if you care to take a look http://www.bakery.com/

She served this pale, beige cream instead of the rich brown stuff, and the pastry layers were totally soggy because of that sad excuse for a filling. It felt like the whole thing was underbaked. Plus, instead of that perfect, light, flaky crunch you expect from homemade treats, the crust had this weird, rubbery texture—kind of like those cheap, store-bought ones you find at a gas station rather than actual artisan pastry.
Anyway, I’m heading over to Piece tomorrow to pick some up and see if they’ve actually improved, but if they miss the mark too, I’m just going straight to East... Actually, I think I'll grab boxes from both tomorrow so I can compare them side-by-side. I really don't have the mental energy to obsess over every little detail anymore...

Is there a particular reason you wouldn't just get yours from Stefan at Spoon? I am curious if there is some specific motivation behind that choice.🤷
I haven't sampled his pastries yet, but the man prepared both cakes and desserts for the G7 Summit, so I assume if he can satisfy heads of state, he can likely manage to satisfy me.😁

Honestly, let me tell you, they didn't even list any pastries on the menu! I actually had no clue they even made them until you started raving about their desserts... ugh. I think I'm going to try these first, and then I’ll definitely give Spoon a call to ask why they didn't even bother mentioning them in the first place...
I mean, look, I know I want one specific cake from Pice, but my sister was actually planning on getting me some pastries from Melia's (back when we thought those were the best thing ever). But now? My first logical move is just to go with Pice for everything—cake and pastries included—so I can get it all from one spot... 🙂

Indeed, that remains the most efficient approach 🙂 . As for the desserts at Spoon, you can find them listed right there in their menu

Ugh, I’m telling you, I checked all three versions of my cookie order and there is absolutely nothing there... and I distinctly remember when I noticed they only had cake on the menu, I actually asked, "Wait, is cake really the only sweet option you have?" The lady behind the counter told me that...
Maybe she just assumed I don't have a sweet tooth or something.😂😂😂

Emma is currently in a small town in the Midwest. I personally haven't encountered a single subpar dessert there; in fact, at the wedding, everyone was hunting down her contact information, and now there’s a massive surge of orders for her holiday cookies.
The newlyweds are given half a kilogram of treats for free, which serves as an excellent way for guests to judge whether they are truly exceptional or, as some might claim, underwhelming.

Why don't you head over to Brooklyn? It’s right near me, so maybe you can get a real feel for the vibe and see if they're actually decent or just total flops...

The address is 14 Main Street; it sits at the very end of that block, almost right by the railroad tracks.😉

I’m probably about to ask a total rookie question here, but does anyone know where Kašnar is located? Also, for those who have been to Taj & Ana—how do they actually handle cake orders? Like, what’s their logic there? Is it just something like $4.00 per slice multiplied by the number of people, or do they do things differently?

Kašnar is based somewhere over near Dubac—I can't quite pin down the exact spot—but they’re actually handling our wedding cake since it's bundled into our menu price and the restaurant has a contract with them.

Thanks🙂
I just remembered—the desserts at my godmother’s wedding a few years back were absolutely killer. Those guys have actually gone out and started their own catering business since then, and they’ve got all the official certifications and paperwork squared away to satisfy any health inspector you throw at them. I’m heading out this weekend to sit down and hammer out the details with them. According to what the guy told me over the phone, a pound of pastries is going to be $21. The breakdown is basically 70% cream-based, 25% semi-moist, and 5% dry stuff. I also asked about cakes, and he mentioned the priciest one they’ve ever done was $433, which can feed anywhere from 200 to 250 people—which is perfect for me because that's exactly the guest count I'm looking at. Plus, they offer free delivery from Des Moines straight to this small town in rural Midwest where my venue is located. Honestly, I'm stoked because they're easily the most affordable option I've found, and I know firsthand how insane those desserts were. I'll head over there this weekend to finalize everything and let you guys know how it goes🙂

Hey girl, morning!
I thought of you immediately—and honestly, it made me think about those tastings we did. I really need to bug my wife and see if she’s got anything good for us to try. She told me this was her first weekend in forever without being swamped with dessert orders. I’m gonna give her another shout later today to see if she actually has some goodies available for us to grab.

Quincy is over on Sunset Boulevard, in that building on the right just before you hit the Dubuque turnaround.

Thanks so much... please...
Even if there isn't anything happening... just let me know how it went... I’d actually consider going in for an interview myself... sounds like a solid opportunity 🤣

I'll let you know when I hear back, but honestly, I’m crossing my fingers they have at least a pound of something tasty to sample—knowing them, there’s no way a weekend goes by in their house without some serious dessert on the table. It sounds pretty legit to me, though; the guy mentioned they're looking to draw up a contract for that date and send over a formal proposal with all the numbers and stuff. Even if we didn't end up signing anything, I’d still hire them in a heartbeat because I have seriously never geeked out over pastries as much as I do when I'm eating their🙂

Gabrielle, remind me where you picked up those cookies and that cake? I feel like I missed the update on that...
If anyone is looking for good treats after catching a movie at the AMC near downtown, check out Kašnar’s—it's right next to the video store.
