Kate Gonzalez said:Down here in San Francisco, we're seeing pastries for just 35-$13/lb!!!!!!

Is flour actually more expensive in Washington, D.C.?

And it really seems that way... haha... honestly, it's wild... right in the heart of D.C., you won't find anything for less than $27/lb—and even then, they aren't particularly great... but, surprisingly, for those folks living outside the D.C. area who hold their professional certifications, it's totally worth it to price them at 50 $20/lb because the quality is top-tier, plus they offer free delivery.. 😁

Oh man, Nathan Cox25, those cakes were absolutely killer... especially that white one with the little pearls... I think I'm actually in love. 🙂😍

That one where the newlyweds sit on a single level looks nice too 😁
Scott Perez62, thanks for the PM. Just let me know if they handle the service or if we need to bring our own cakes and pastries—it’s not like we'll be passing by Washington, D.C. or Helena on the way anyway.

Betty Foster8 said:I haven't really chimed in on this thread before, but honestly, seeing how much you guys are dropping on cakes makes me feel a little sick... mine cost about $27/lb 🤦. I mean, sure, they’re probably the most perfectly decorated treats I’ve ever seen, but flavor-wise? They're just okay. Nothing spectacular. Plus, it's just some lady baking from her home kitchen—not even a real business or anything—so charging 😠 is wild. And she’s being such a headache about the cake itself; she calls me every three days with some stupid suggestion, even though I made it crystal clear that I want this kind of cake, just with flowers instead of a bride and groom. She’s gonna drive me crazy 🤦. And of course, because she says she doesn't have the right pan or whatever, it’ll end up being round 😬 haha, and yeah, extra frosting, or whatever 😢

Maybe I should just Exodus her—I guess. 😁

They offer delivery services as long as your order is over 10 kg.

Fine, fine—we'll have three times as much food and a cake big enough for 150 people.
I'll definitely add them to the tasting list. 😁

Great, glad you all gathered here. This place is a goldmine for actual advice on pricing, services, and general questions...

Does anyone know a bakery that does dessert shooters, something like this:

I saw those kinds of desserts at a wedding at the Hilton, but they used Delivered Catering, and I don't think they specialize just in sweets...
Are there any other options out there?

Robin Kelly25, you can find cakes just like those at Millennium over on Boynton.

Thanks, ladies. At least I have a starting point now. I'm thinking about setting up a dedicated dessert station—maybe something like a Swedish buffet style—while keeping the rest of the food on the main table. I really like this vibe.

Alright, ladies, here’s the intel so I can return the favor:

First, I called Millennium. The woman who picked up—let's call her the Duchess because she certainly acts the part—couldn't provide a single basic detail. She didn't even know the price per glass. After three minutes of back-and-forth, we finally established that one glass is roughly $4.75. The Duchess had no clue if they offer bulk discounts or if they even deliver; her response was basically, "I guess it works for $33 if the wedding is in Washington, D.C." Honestly, it felt like I was calling to ask for a hundred free pastries rather than planning to actually pay for them. Zero stars for service.

Second—Lido. That’s a different story entirely. The guy was normal, which is a shocker these days. He was communicative and actually easy to talk to. Here's the breakdown: a kilo of dessert/glasses is $33, a kilo of "just" pastries is 70kg, and a single glass is $3.00. They handle delivery properly using refrigerated trucks.

Hopefully, this helps someone out.

Robin Kelly25, I suspect any standard catering company could pull off those little cups. You should probably gather more quotes just to be safe and find the cheapest option 😉
give Delivered Catering a shot; I know they've handled them before, and they likely still do.

Robin Kelly25, if I can offer one little bit of advice regarding those little dessert cups—I use them all the time for corporate events. They look incredibly sharp and they definitely make an impression, but honestly? They’re a total pain when it actually comes to eating. For a wedding, you might run into some trouble; guests will grab a drink from them, and then they'll be stuck trying to fish out the food with a tiny little spoon or a cocktail fork. It gets messy and awkward fast. You're much better off sticking with classic finger foods or standard pastries that people can just grab and enjoy without the gymnastics.😉😉😉

Robin Kelly25, I absolutely love this idea 😉 — I’ve actually been thinking about doing something very similar for my own wedding 🙂
I did a little digging recently, and honestly, some people told me that those little dessert shooters are a total nightmare for weddings (not to mention they can be surprisingly pricey), so I'm leaning much more toward this direction:

And personally, my absolute favorite has to be 😍

Thanks for those photos! I’ve actually been looking for some inspiration regarding different types of pastries—everything from those dry, bite-sized cookies to the more decadent stuff. You’ve honestly given me a huge list of ideas to work with now. 👍

By the way, what kind of treats usually fall under that whole category?
What are everyone's absolute favorites? I want them to make a little bit of everything. My aunts actually have a catering license, so I have total freedom to pick whatever I want. So, come on, people, let me know what you think! 😛)

We let everything else pass at the wedding, but we drew the line at peach cobbler and wafer cookies—we just can't stand them. Honestly, you're better off heading straight to their table to sample the whole spread😬

eheheh 🙂
I’m actually a huge fan of peach cobbler and thin wafers, so you really need to list out everything else 😬

These photos are stunning—honestly, this is exactly how I envision my own setup looking 👍. Those glass containers with the ribbon lids are also quite lovely for serving things like dry 🎉
.
I’ve already banned those little finger sandwiches from the menu, though we can include a bit of everything else—with a heavy emphasis on Canadian pastries 😍😍😍
. And yes, I’m personally craving some gourmet donuts, but everyone keeps insisting they aren't "wedding appropriate" 🤷

Also, Favory has their own dedicated pastry shop they partner with; I think they can definitely pull off stuff like this, and honestly, their prices are usually pretty reasonable.
