Robin Kelly25 said:Thanks, ladies. At least I have a starting point now. I'm thinking about setting up a dedicated dessert station—maybe something like a Swedish buffet style—while keeping the rest of the food on the main table. I really like this vibe.

I actually spotted those little dessert cups yesterday over at Vincennes. $5.00/kom

Could one of you experienced folks explain how the whole dessert tasting thing actually works?
I mean—is it just a matter of walking into a bakery and saying, "We're looking at cakes for our wedding here, would it be possible to sample some?"
Is there a fee for that? 😁 (I assume so, but I figured I’d ask anyway :P)

If someone could clarify a bit 🙂

I tried out two different local bakeries, and when I called them up to arrange some wedding cake tastings, both told me they wouldn't have anything ready for a tasting during the week—I had to show up on a Friday or Saturday when they actually had their wedding batches baked. To top it off, they charged me full retail price for those "samples."

Aha... that sounds great. I guess—how far in advance should we actually coordinate with them? Not just for the tastings, but for the wedding itself—how much lead time do they typically need to know we're ordering our cakes from them?

I picked up some pastries from Emma's bakery... and while I was debating whether they were actually worth getting, I ended up asking for some samples and walked away with a whole pound of treats for free.

So, I’ve got a wedding coming up at the end of September, and I actually put my order in for the desserts back in late June—I don't have the receipt handy right now to give you the exact details. When you give them a call, just make sure to ask right away if they're available for your specific date.

I actually went ahead and did an Easter egg hunt a while back...

That early? :/
I suppose I should probably step back from this topic for a moment... what do you all think—is four months before the wedding too late?

goldenheron34, you're not late, don't sweat it... they'll probably just tell you to check back two or three weeks before the wedding to finalize everything anyway. Go ahead and reach out early just to make sure they aren't booked up, though I doubt they'd turn down a wedding easily even with how busy things get 😉

Our little cake 😉 it was basically vanilla parfait topped with fruit... honestly, man, I feel your pain, I know you were dying for some tiramisu instead

I was craving something sweet today 😳 so I headed out to grab my absolute favorite treats. Honestly, sitting here snacking on them right now, I just felt like I had to give them another shout-out because they’re seriously that good. I'm talking about Anne Kolač, located over on 3rd Street in Kansas.
A coworker actually told me about them, but when I first went looking for the place, I totally missed it since the entrance is tucked away on the side of the building. 😁
But man, once I finally tracked them down...😈...I've been a regular ever since. I pick them up for Easter, for Christmas, or even just on random days like today...
About a year and a half ago, we actually ordered the cake and a bunch of pastries for our wedding, and everyone was obsessed—we even grabbed those little individual gift boxes for people to take home. The sweets are incredible (honestly, I haven't had anything that delicious at a wedding since; at the last one we went to by Cashner, the food was pretty mediocre, both in looks and taste), the prices are super fair, and one thing that really stuck with me is how spotless they are—when you walk in, the owner and the staff look like they’re working in a high-tech lab, everyone in white coats and hairnets.
Anyway, figured this might help someone out if they're looking for a sugar fix 😉>

Haha, thanks for the reassurance 🙂
I doubt any of them would turn me away... since the wedding is on a Wednesday, anyway, Haha 😁

Hey ladies, has anyone ever ordered a multi-tiered cake that didn't use those separate plastic or metal pillars between the layers?

I’ve noticed most of them I see online are pretty small, but I’m actually looking for something much larger—maybe three or four tiers high. I'm honestly not sure if custom bakeries are even willing to build a massive cake like that without using supports to hold up each level.🤷

I don't have a photo handy to show you exactly what I mean, but I think you probably get the idea.😉

I'm actually planning on doing a three-tier cake without any supports... and it's for a crowd of about 230 people.

I’m thinking of doing a whole spread of mini cupcakes instead... 😬 We could have our initials on every single one, and then upstairs, where we'll have the big cake for the cutting ceremony, we can have our full names beautifully scripted right under us as a couple! 😬

This is basically what our cake will look like, just with a different color scheme.

Signature! I actually dig this 😍

Even those colors 🙂 specifically that greasy black one 🙂

What's it gonna be made of?

Pretty great!
Just a heads-up—don't go with the mini stands. I saw a wedding last weekend where the cake basically took flight while the couple was trying to cut it. Something more like this:

The whole thing started wobbling during the first slice, then just slid right off the stand on the second. It probably depends on how the cake is built or the frosting used, but still...
