To my dear friends,
I highly recommend picking up some dry cookies from that bakery in Brooklyn.
They are a bit on the pricey side, I suppose, but our guests absolutely lost their minds over them 👍

When we stopped by the shop on Monday after the wedding to settle the bill, they asked if we enjoyed the sweets. We told them the guests were thrilled—though, truth be told, neither of us actually managed to eat a single bite (we barely touched any food or drink, given that liters of sparkling water 😁> and an intense dance floor did most of the work
). The owner immediately packed up a couple of pounds for us as a gift, insisting that a wedding simply isn't complete without enjoying them 🙂

Credit where credit is due: their service was top-notch, the delivery was seamless, the cake concept was executed perfectly 👍 , and ultimately, the product itself is just superb 👍

We picked up some treats from this little bakery where they were only 50/$18/lb—honestly, they were incredible! I can't believe they aren't just as good as the ones at those fancy shops charging $27/lb.

Has anyone ordered from that place near Brooklyn or maybe The Cookie House lately?

The prices at Meli are insane... we need about 40 lbs 😲

I’ve heard all sorts of things about unknown—not that I actually know if their pastries are any good. How much does The Cookie House charge per $30? We used to order them back in the day, but I don't recall the exact price—pretty sure they were way out of our budget at the time.
The local bakery in Brooklyn is $23 + 5 if you want them on platters—I think the total comes to 65. Monika charges $27/kg for bulk orders over 20kg, and the machine-made ones are probably just $27/kg

We only needed about 13kg, so it wasn't exactly a massive hit to our budget...
If I actually had to source 40kg, I’d probably just mix and match treats from two different bakeries
I mean, why does everything have to come from a single shop? ☕

The bakery is $22/lb. We picked some up and they were fantastic. My only gripe is they're a bit of a trek from Washington, D.C. (way out by Central Park), so it's not worth driving all that way just for a taste. We ended up finding them at a few local food festivals, and my godmother actually used them for her wedding... highly recommend 😉

We’re planning to order from them too. Plus, they offer delivery all the way out to places like Key West, which is a huge plus. Their pastries are excellent—it was really important to me that they didn't have that artificial, mass-produced taste.

Last week we picked up this massive Black Forest cake from a boutique bakery out in Chicago...
It was perfect—if you happen to be someone who actually enjoys mushy, tasteless, watery excuses for dessert.
But if you’re like me and prefer a cake that’s actually sweet, rich, and flavorful? Total disaster.
The saddest part was that nobody even wanted seconds. I was the best man, so on top of my gift, I brought this whole cake—and people were just being polite! They kept giving me those diplomatic, fake smiles like, "Oh, it's lovely," when we all knew it was a lie. It wasn't until a few days later, when I finally told my inner circle that the cake was honestly nothing special, that I finally got some honest feedback!

Never again from that shop in Chicago!!!

So, my wife and I finally touched base last week with the lady over at heart regarding those cookies and the cake we wanted.
A whole pound of cookies was $25., and the cake ended up being $4.00 per slice.
The lady actually packed up a pound of cookies for us to take home just to test them out, telling us to let her know if we had any feedback or anything...
We polished them all off in about two seconds flat!🤣
They’re seriously delicious...😍

That little bakery $27. I grabbed a kilo just to test them out, so we'll see. Everything else I've tried so far has been pretty 🤷
The stuff from Kašnar was decent enough, but then again, I've heard so many rumors that I don't even know anymore...
As for the cake, we're going with the sweet secret. 😍 Our little elephant-themed gift boxes 😍 😍

Tried Absum, didn't like them one bit.
Osmijeh was the same, and they even cut the edges off my pieces!
Sweet secret is okay, I guess, but $30...

But honestly, Šimić confectionery makes some incredible pastries and cakes!
Give those machines a shot—they're seriously good. I actually prefer them over the stuff from Magnolia Bakery, which is why we went with them. If you order their cakes, I'm pretty sure they offer free delivery within Washington, D.C.

Honestly, newlyweds—do yourselves a favor and check out the bakeries just outside of Washington, D.C. You'll find the exact same treats, if not even better ones, and they're way more affordable too.
Most of them even offer free delivery right into the city!

feralmoose32 said:So, a colleague of mine was at this wedding recently, and apparently, the newlyweds were serving these specific "treats flown in from London"
I had to ask her—like, what even are these?—and then she starts describing them, claiming you can only find them in London

They were macarons, obviously 🙄

😂

If they actually went through the trouble of having them shipped all the way from London... I honestly don't even know what to say about that kind of dedication... 😬

Wait, aren't macarons French? Pretty sure I saw them listed on the menu at a local bakery here in the States. 🙂

Larry Perez said:Does anyone actually know anything about those treats from the Famous local confectioner? I’m talking about their M&M's style sweets. What are the cakes actually like? Taste, presentation, the whole deal... I'm curious about everything, really. 🙂

Well, since nobody seems to be talking about them here—and honestly, nobody could give me a straight answer when I asked earlier—I figured I’d weigh in now that my wedding is over. We ended up going with their dessert spread, and I have to say, they were lovely. Everything was beautifully sliced and arranged just right 🙂. I guess it worked because quite a few guests were asking for their contact info after the reception so they could order for future events 😍. Every little bite had its own distinct flavor; you could actually taste the walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts... that sort of thing. What I really appreciated, though, was that they didn't just stick to those standard dry cookies; they had a great variety of creamy, decadent options too. As for the cost, it was $25 per pound 👍.

Hey ladies!
How is it even possible to pay just $4.00 for a single slice of cake? Back home in California, a slice usually goes for $6.00. The price gaps are absolutely massive. Man, I miss my California...

I get what you mean. I'm talking about your run-of-the-mill bakery with standard prices. It feels absolutely criminal to shell out $1000 for a single cake. They hike up the prices just because it's labeled a wedding cake instead of a regular one. You go in for a simple slice and it's $10 - $4.00, but for a wedding cake? It jumps to $6.00. When you ask why, the answer is always "it's bigger." Honestly... 😁

just for the decoration
they're probably just looking for chocolate drizzle or whipped cream—maybe then the price might actually drop a bit

Look, my honest advice? Don't go overboard with the dessert spread at your wedding. I don't care how much you're willing to drop on it; it’s honestly pathetic watching all that expensive food just end up in the trash. Instead, find a straight-shooting caterer who isn't afraid to tell you exactly how much you actually need. For our wedding, we did a buffet style where everything was beautifully laid out on tiered stands, with each of the eight different types of treats sitting in its own little basket. We had these cute little white baskets for the dry pastries, and people absolutely loved being able to wander around, pick out a few things, and mingle. In the end, most of the guests polished off almost everything... I only ended up bringing home maybe two pounds of leftovers.
