This applies exclusively to scenarios where an upgrade was performed from Windows Vista to Seven, specifically in cases where McAfee Total Protection was already installed on the Vista system prior to the upgrade.

When performing a clean installation of Windows 7, there are absolutely no issues whatsoever.

So, first things first—I need to vent about those silly questions like whether it supports Norton and all that... anyway, I installed Windows 7 on my niece's computer, headed home, and then set it up on mine in the middle of the night. As soon as I ran into a few hiccups, I hopped on here.
Basically, I didn't really have the luxury of sitting down to figure out exactly how Windows 7 behaves...
But, I stopped by my niece's place yesterday, and we tried using one of the solutions Windows 7 offers, and we performed an upgrade to McAfee Total Security, and it seems to be working fine . I can't give you a 100% guarantee, though, because right after the installation—well, the upgrade—and a quick restart, I had to head out. But from what I can tell, it's holding up.
I was reading in Bug that Windows 7 might have some issues with certain antivirus programs, and I think I saw something mentioning that Windows 7 wouldn't even let AVG install. I'm not entirely sure, though...
I haven't actually touched my own computer yet; in fact, I haven't even been back at it since I put Windows 7 on there. I'll keep you all posted once I get through installing all this software... everything from the basics like Microsoft Office, Ner, and WinRAR... to the heavier stuff like Corel, Photoshop, and Preps. I'll let you know if any of them act up.
To be honest, I haven't caught up on all forty pages of discussion regarding Windows 7, so maybe it’s already been mentioned, but hey, if my updates help anyone out, that’s great...

slyrider13 said:That really only applies to those specific cases where someone upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7—and even then, only if McAfee Total Protection was already sitting there on the Vista setup before the upgrade happened.

If you're doing a clean installation of Windows 7, you won't run into any of these issues...

Just a little heads-up from my side—based on past experiences, I always go for a completely clean install whenever I'm reinstalling Windows. I make sure to format all the drives every single time, so in my case, Windows 7 was a fresh install rather than an upgrade...

In that case, simply disregard the warning. As I have previously stated, that specific issue only applies to the scenario I described. I have had ESS installed for a week now and haven't encountered a single problem.
Furthermore, regardless of which version of Windows you are running, do not attempt to upgrade McAfee from version 3 to version 4; instead, download version 4 directly and install it from scratch.

It’s been nearly a year since the first post in this thread about Seven was even written. We're sitting here with 40 pages and over 1,500 comments, yet Windows 7 😉 still hasn't even hit the shelves. I am just thrilled with how things are progressing. My hope is that more people will jump into this discussion to share their thoughts, gripes, and advice with the rest of us.

Even though Windows isn't my primary OS, I have to admit—Windows 7 really, really caught me by surprise. It's actually quite pleasant.

Hey everyone.
Here’s the situation I'm dealing with:
I have a single hard drive set up for dual booting, with Windows Vista on one partition and Windows 7 on the other. When I boot into Windows Vista, everything works fine and I can see all my partitions. But when I boot into Windows 7, the partition where Vista lives just doesn't show up. Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks,

Thanks, everybody.

Hit the Start menu, type diskmgmt.msc, and hit ENTER

Right-click that Vista partition, then click Change Drive Letter and Paths

Click Add

Select the first option, Assign The following Drive letter, and pick a letter from the dropdown—either the suggested one or whatever you prefer.

Confirm by clicking OK

Once you head back to Computer, that Vista partition should be right there.

Thanks, Noah Sanchez39!
P.S. Will my Windows Vista still run smoothly after I change the drive letter?

P.S. Will it work for me? Regularly. Trying to get Windows Vista up and running after performing a Change Drive Letter and Paths operation.

Will we start losing drive letters on Windows Vista in the coming weeks?
It shouldn't. Just restart the week and see if everything's working properly.

That shouldn't happen. Just try restarting the PC and see if everything settles into place properly.

I was actually wondering if I'd still be able to boot into Windows Vista normally once the partition stops being labeled [C:] and gets assigned some other letter.

I hear you, but honestly, I don't see much point in running Windows Vista and Windows 7 in a dual boot setup... Everything you actually need on Vista is already available on Seven, and most of the stuff that makes Vista frustrating has been smoothed out by now... If you really wanted a solid setup, running Windows XP alongside Windows 7 would be a much better move...😉

Just wanted to jump in here regarding whether Norton works on Windows 7, since I see restlessangler is worried about her niece (me)🙂Everything runs flawlessly on my end, and Norton works perfectly too!!!
Honestly, these are probably the first versions of Windows that run smoothly on my PC without any issues... I can even actually use Internet Explorer, which was a total nightmare on both Windows XP and Windows Vista!!

I’m running McAfee Total Protection, the latest version on Windows 7. It actually works on this OS.🙂

I picked up a copy of Windows Vista Business today, but the CD key I received is for Windows 7. What am I supposed to do with that? My current Vista setup is 64-bit, and I was really hoping to move up to the 64-bit version of Windows 7 as well.

I can't seem to find a way to download Windows 7... I've searched everywhere but came up empty. I received the product key, yet there was no disc included in the package. Does anyone know what's going on?

If you had actually looked at the link provided, you would have seen this: "Buy your upgrade to Windows Vista now. Your upgrade to Windows 7 will follow later." 😳

Read the section titled "Love your computer?" more carefully. 😉

Can someone help me make sense of this? I just finished installing the software, but it won't actually launch...
It keeps telling me I need to sign in as an administrator and then Run as administrator—even though I’m already logged into my admin account...
