How long do you think this squad stays together?
Who knows... nobody really does. The club basically runs on pure fan energy and grit, but I believe in that blood and sweat mentality—nothing worth having comes easy.
If they actually have any brains, they need to hold onto this group as long as possible (at least until the next World Cup, ideally through the next Euro Championship). We might not be able to keep everyone, but they should try to hang onto the top talent (guys like Radosevic, Caktas, Maloca, Andrijasevic...) and only sell the ones where there's actual potential or a solid youth replacement ready. But man, we're broke, which makes it a hell of a fight... though if we play it smart (like sticking with one coach for a 4-year cycle), we could maybe build something like a "Devil" type concept...
It’s rough, you gotta understand that. You can't even compare today to how things used to be back in the day (I'm young, so I won't lie and say I remember it perfectly), but you can't argue with the facts: the infrastructure and the athletic programs back then were miles ahead of what we have now. Especially since there were laws preventing young players from just jumping ship too early. The government actually invested in sports, infrastructure, fields, schools—the whole system was designed to work. People actually got paid by companies... nowadays, everything is dictated by big capital, and we don't have any here. Fields and academies are falling apart, the system is a joke, and kids just leave whenever and wherever they want (that's democracy for you). There's zero capital to keep them, and honestly, even our social values are flipped (you're only worth what you have). Politics used to run clubs like the Wild West—doing whatever they felt like—and they systematically gutted companies the same way (privatization "for our own good," right?). If you want the truth, we're just one more state in a long line of places where all the money gets sucked out toward banking giants stashing it on exotic islands (off topic, I know). The situation here is just a disaster; layoffs everywhere, taxes keep climbing, life's getting harder, and society is sliding downhill because it needs what Hajduk needs: capital.
In the middle of all this mess, the lack of cash, and this tragic state of affairs, you still have 35,000+ people watching Hajduk, singing, cheering, and looking at them with hope that they'll pull off a miracle. But miracles don't just happen; it's nothing but blood and sweat, which is exactly what they gave while losing 0-3 and saying goodbye to Europe (real talk).
We can't compete in Europe against organized clubs when we've got cowboys rolling into ownership with $50 bills in their pockets, while the national stock exchange is struggling, we've got millions of workers and over a million retirees, everything we own is owned by banks, and the government just keeps squeezing us for every last cent.
And you're asking why everyone was celebrating last night? How can you even ask that?!
BECAUSE WE ARE ALIVE, WE ARE HERE, AND THEY CAN'T BREAK US! NEVER! WE WON'T LET THEM SUFFOCATE US! WE SING AND WE CELEBRATE, THE WHOLE MEDITERRANEAN COAST IS SHAKING!
Not the government, not Europe, not UEFA, not Inter Milan, not those drugged-out cowboys, not politics, not fake clubs, not Platini, not "modern football," or whoever else—JUST HAJDUK!
