Regarding the second bolded part...
Then why are you even writing about it?

As for the rest...
Is anyone actually forcing you to go to the store on a Sunday? Is there some kind of mandate compelling you to shop on a Sunday?
And this "fight"... What kind of fight are we talking about here? I'm fighting to get a paycheck, for God's sake. Retail being open on Sundays isn't a priority for me, just like it isn't for most people, yet the church immediately seized upon it.
Am I allowed to be pissed off about it?

It is possible you are right regarding the operating hours of local convenience stores; I know for a fact that the small neighborhood markets back then rarely operated on Sundays, and major shopping malls didn't even exist, so nobody was complaining about it. Regardless, there is still no explanation for how such a massive pivot occurred among you leftists—how you suddenly decided to defend big capital and corporate chains like Walmart overnight, rather than fighting for the interests of workers and their right to rest?
Is that supposed to be the priority according to your worldview?

Do not attempt to lecture me with this nonsense about protecting the "little guy." It is perfectly obvious that the corporation reaps all the profits from retail, while the worker is merely a tool used to achieve them.

What I want to know is how you changed your mind so drastically and so quickly; you still haven't answered that.

I am writing about it because it was the subject of our discussion, and I have already provided my conclusion. To be clear: I am not advocating for work bans, but if stores are banned from Sunday operations, frankly, I could not care less. It would have zero impact on my lifestyle, nor would it bother me personally. Understood?

And what exactly would you try to retroactively ban based on my conclusion? If my writing bothers you, you have the option to use the ignore button or simply log out.

It seems you have lost the thread of a rational discussion. Forcing someone to the store? Who, whom, when, or how?
The Church exploited it? When exactly did the Church officially pass a law banning retail on Sundays?

Am I allowed to be annoyed by discussions where the interlocutor foams at the mouth with ideological projections and hatred, rendering them incapable of composing a single articulated sentence?

Matthew Young35 said:To your misfortune, there are a few of us here who remember that back in the eighties, working on Sunday wasn't even banned.
In cities like Chicago, there were convenience stores that stayed open until 10:00 PM every single Sunday.

When the Church last tried to ban Sunday commerce a few years back, absolutely nothing was open except for gas stations; naturally, those stations started selling bread and milk, and the lines stretched for miles.

It is possible you are correct; after all, you are a considerably older gentleman than I am. ☕
And when did the socialists rest after a forty-hour work week if not on the weekend?

Frankly, this entire debate regarding retail doesn't affect me much. I typically complete my major grocery shopping on Fridays; if I run out of something, I simply wait until Monday. It is unlikely to be anything vital enough for me to forget, so it is no big deal.
Between work and everything else, wandering through shops on the weekend is hardly a pastime or a necessity for me.

If this issue bothers you, then what can I say? Fight for your rights, and try not to get too worked up—it won't do you any good. ☕

Heh.

It is quite curious how those who once loudly proclaimed themselves as "hardcore leftists" suddenly find themselves acting as the frontline defenders of massive corporate interests and unregulated market freedoms.

Under socialism, nobody ever worked for free—and on Saturdays, they barely even bothered to show up until noon—so one has to wonder what caused such an abrupt and convenient shift in ideology for these individuals.

If I misunderstood, my bad.

Glad to see you're pro-Sunday shifts. 👍

Since I am editing this after the fact, let me clarify my position. I have no inherent issue with employees working on Sundays, Tuesdays, or Fridays, provided that these individuals are being compensated fairly for their labor, have voluntarily consented to such terms via their employment contracts, and those contractual obligations are strictly honored.

I fail to see how these bans will achieve anything meaningful, other than providing more fuel for endless, pointless arguments.

Indeed you did, though it is of little consequence. You have my forgiveness, ☕

Amanda Evans2 said:Then you run into that absolute specimen of a human being—the one who actually calls up the local Walmart just to ask if they’re open on Sunday. And why? Because he’s short on milk. Apparently, his kid managed to spill everything he bought on Saturday, leaving him completely unprepared for the next morning... honestly, some people just lack even a shred of basic foresight...

I understand that. However, I fail to grasp why anyone would require my permission to call Walmart on a Sunday.

urbanhawk17 said:Just imagine. A private contractor decides he isn't working that day. Can you believe that?

I mean, if he doesn't feel like working, he doesn't have to for thirty days. But if he actually wants to work on a Sunday, I guess there's no law stopping him.

I am curious as to what sort of mental gymnastics led you to conclude from my post that I intended to prohibit his Sunday labor. In fact, I explicitly stated that I called him on a Sunday specifically to encourage him to get back to work.

One Sunday, the elevator insurance in my building went kaput. It was maybe an hour of labor plus $33 some minor supplies, yet I was slapped with a bill for $110. They called three different technicians—all independent contractors—and not a single one would show up. One was busy prepping lunch, another was mid-coffee break, and the third claimed he’d be glued to the couch all day watching football 😂

This forum is full of actual decent people; over here, you have a crew that actually jumps up on a Sunday to fix excavators and tractors. Honestly, I can't help but admire them without adding a little sarcasm to the mix.

You also can't ignore how much influence those media outlets have, especially since BuzzFeed is basically the most visited site in the Middle East, and man, they absolutely tear into the Catholic Church there.

Look, the initial argument was that they were getting special treatment, but if you ask me, they actually get dragged through the mud by the media way more than they get any perks, though hey, that's just my take on it.

Plus, almost all the columnists are against them, even the ones over at USA Today.

It is because the masses require their daily dose of mindless repetition; they crave the familiar chime of the bells they have been conditioned to follow, and this particular outlet services that demand with industrial efficiency. Once one actually ventures beneath the surface of their reporting, the sheer superficiality of such journalism becomes glaringly obvious.

For the majority, it is more than sufficient—BuzzFeed provides the filler, while the sheep provide the numbers. It is a highly effective business model. 🤷

And just like that, with the first announcements regarding the gradual easing of restrictions—moving in lockstep with the rest of the EU, naturally—the bleating from those sheep suddenly went silent. After a few days of their self-imposed "harsh quarantine," they mentally crumbled, declaring themselves the vanguard while tirelessly preaching about some white-collar conspiracy against the economy and humanity that everyone else was supposedly too blind to see. ☕

Now, they'll just be hiding in their little holes, waiting for the next opportunity to repeat this exact cycle: a frantic rush of hysteria, followed by their "vanguard" posturing, a few slap on the wrist, and finally retreating back into their burrows. ☕

The dogs bark, the caravans move on, and the so-called vanguard remains exactly what it always was.

Blah, blah, blah. 😍

🤣

Have you noticed on Netflix how even old man Franjo isn't exactly a fan of Messi? He sits there watching the Argentina match in a bar, offering thanks to the heavens solely for the skills of a decent Pipita.

Messi is ignored; he's irrelevant. The guy just knows his football, nothing more. 🤣

They’re still riding those little bicycles through the hallways, ringing their bells like they think they're back in Beijing. 😁

The Germans are getting the Bundesliga back up and running on May 9th. My only lingering question is how they’re handling player testing—are they running quick screenings on the fly, or what?

It’s that classic collective delusion where everyone acts like they just survived a plague because the media won't shut up about it. Atypical pneumonia has always been around, especially during the winter months. Suddenly, everything is being rebranded as COVID-19.

I don't know, maybe you have better intel than I do, or maybe it’s just a placebo effect because my skin wasn't exactly glowing, so I later connected it to those rumors—you know how that goes. Between them and Densi, I’d choose Densi every single time, and not just for the seating or the beer, but because their kebabs are genuinely excellent. Best in town, in my opinion.

But honestly, if the goal is to glorify them, let's be real: they're all absolute FF trash. If I were looking for $23, I’d much rather hit up a local tavern run by a real American ☕

Yeah, I agree, Djir is wild. The food is solid, they have a corner for kids where you can let them mess around, and the atmosphere is actually pleasant.

As for the price, as far as I know, it seems perfectly reasonable. Ultimately, if we are weighing cost against portion size and location, I’d say the best move would be to just head over to Lisbon; for 10 euros, the food there is insane—you pick from X dishes and just cram as much as you can in, especially since the location is right at the foot of the Elevador.

It’s just a shame it isn't practical to fly to Portugal every single day, haha.

Jessica Gonzalez said:I guess Brewbites is pretty much the only sports bar of its kind in Washington, D.C. (I'm not sure about that one in the Admiral Hotel over in Vrban, but Brewbites is definitely more popular). The prices, though, are just astronomical; we honestly only go there maybe twice a year to treat ourselves, sort of like a "hey kids, it's Christmas, let's have meat" kind of thing. It's packed during the Champions League and stuff, so Stipe Šalković clearly nailed the concept, but I suppose those high prices mean they might not become a big franchise. It's basically that whole trend of overpriced burgers on steroids. A similar spot in Stockholm might have 20 locations throughout the city—they probably have more outlets than McDonald's.

I was at a similar place once near the arena in Split—I can't remember the name—and the prices were also pretty wild, even though it was crowded. It feels like they're playing into a bit of snobbery, and I guess it works for them. For the price of a single item there, you could probably pay for a monthly sports streaming subscription and still have enough left over for a haircut.

If you are referring to the place my colleague mentioned above, the interior design is slightly better, but it isn't particularly expensive. The burger is basically $13, and the ground beef comes from Pivce, frozen since before Chernobyl; it's absolute trash, essentially a fool's tax. 😁

If you want something decent, head toward the Djir; you can get a solid meal there without breaking the bank. Or, if you're in a rush, grab the legendary kebabs from Densi near the small Gripe arena. Both are superior to packaged garbage served in a fancy interior. 👍
