I don't know—maybe this is going to be the next "True Black Metal vs. Trash" debate... back in the day, those threads were the absolute best kind of chaos, plus they actually helped surface some decent music.

By the way, I could never get into that COF stuff—it’s just too overproduced and lacks actual taste. Like, in the mainstream black scene, they treated Dimmu Borgir as if they were some untouchable institution.
As far as black metal goes, I loved Mayhem—honestly, I think they're untouchable—and Attila has the best, most versatile vocals in the whole genre.
After them, there's Emperor...

Lately, I've been leaning more toward technical death: Spawn of Possession, anata, Gojira, and so on.

anata was an incredible band—just insane musicianship.

Hey Koki, what's your take on anata?😁

Man, I really hope that Gojira show in January doesn't get canceled. I'm definitely planning on making the trip no matter what.👍

The last time I caught Slayer at a venue like the Fillmore—honestly, I think I'm officially done with that whole scene.😬

I listen to pretty versatile stuff—really everything is in the mix. I'm pretty open to any kind of sound, from synth-pop all the way to jazz. Always had a thing for industrial, too...

Music doesn't actually affect depression. Honestly, it’s just not a strong enough chemical to go in there and rewire your brain—if it were, I’d be constantly flooded with dopamine and adrenaline...

Man, those old-school bands like Tiamat, Amorphis, or Sentenced... they always used to have those synth layers running in the background. It was part of the vibe.

I also remember catching a live set back in 2005—this new band Necrophagist was playing, and they were absolutely out of their minds. They had Muhammad on guitar and vocals. Honestly, if you're looking at pure talent, he’s probably the best guitarist in metal after Chuck Schuldiner. After him, I'd say it's Ihsahn from Emperor.

Death metal and I go way back—we're old friends at this point. Back in the day, I was absolutely obsessed; I knew every single lineup change and every drummer's name, and I used to spend my time snapping photos with all my idols at shows. These days, though, most of my listening happens while I'm hitting it hard at the gym, mostly just blasting the classics:
suffocation, Morbid Angel, Gorguts, Immolation, Hate Eternal, Monstrosity, old-school Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, Cryptopsy, and a whole mountain of others.
The absolute peak was definitely that 89-93 era... those albums are pure gold, whether you're talking about that Florida sound or the Swedish school.
For me personally, Suffocation has always been the GOAT. I actually caught them during their reunion back in 2007—they were playing a Kill or Be Killed tour set at a swampy venue, which is basically what it felt like, and they did the same show in a similar vibe over in a nearby US city. They signed all my CDs, even gave me a hoodie as a gift, and I actually got to hang out backstage with them.

Take Gojira, for instance—I've been following them since the link album. They're an awesome band, even if they mix up different styles; they just have that killer groove that hits different.

But when I get home feeling totally wiped or just need to blow off some steam—even with everything else I listen to now—nothing beats crushing a workout to straight-up death metal. It’s just how I roll. I was never really into the whole "look" or the fashion side of things; I just genuinely loved and understood the music.

There’s nothing better than cranking through Suffocation’s Effigy of the Forgotten, Pierced from Within, or the Despise the Sun EP.

Check out this brutal footage of the Funeral Inception stuff, specifically the first one with Despise the Sun. You won't hear Frank Mullen on vocals here, but man, this recording absolutely destroys.

Total flop. Honestly, Guy Ritchie seems to be stuck in this pattern over the last decade—he drops one solid hit followed by a complete dud... and this one was just a massive snooze fest. Nothing to write home about. This Saturday, I’m looking to wash the taste out of my mouth with that new Taylor Sheridan flick.👍
Mili is an absolute legend!
Look, I don't give a damn, but when it comes to this topic, I’m basically the Secretary of Health. You need to find someone with an actual DG Lyme diagnosis who can get you clean EMG and MRI results. Most neurologists won't even bother looking at a spinal tap just because someone suspects a tick messed them up ten years ago—especially when all their tests come back normal.
analogbison7 said:If I recall correctly... Anne Marie was never even bitten—she actually caught the illness through her mother.
And apparently mosquitoes carry it too.

The whole thing feels pretty fishy to me. This Borrelia stuff is huge in the US right now—so many people claim they have it when they actually just have mono, fibromyalgia, or even worse, MS.
Just try to stay positive and don't let this Lyme thing get to you too much... I say that sometimes because once someone starts sorting out their mental health, a ton of symptoms they thought were physical end up being psychological. Good luck.👍
analogbison7 said:My former doctor back in Chicago said the exact same thing—just a quick round of therapy and an antibiotic that isn't even the right choice for this. But what can you do? That’s just how the medical system has operated here for over 30 years. Not to mention, she didn't even recognize the bullseye rash. So yeah... if you're going to trust them...

I was thinking about sending my blood work to ArminLabs, but I honestly don't know how reliable they actually are.

Everything else has come back fine so far... except for a Vitamin D deficiency, elevated Bilirubin, and low Ferritin.
I'm waiting on an MRI for my spine before I decide my next move. Either way, it's all just a bunch of nonsense and I am seriously exhausted from dealing with it.

Well, almost everyone at ArminLabs tests positive. They have some weird tests—they might be the "best," but they seem way too sensitive. It's like anyone who ever had mono will end up with positive titers. Personally, I've concluded it's just quackery—though hey, maybe I'm wrong—but I know those "positive" patients end up taking out huge loans for treatments in Germany, using all sorts of alternative stuff, God knows what they're actually being given.

I had similar symptoms—muscle twitching and this constant tingling sensation. After dropping $100 on tests, I was told I just had a psychosomatic disorder, basically chronic anxiety. I'm on antidepressants now, but it hasn't really helped much; I've just learned to live with the symptoms. The fatigue is actually worse. I also had low D3 (only 16).

As far as I can remember, I was never even bitten by a tick, and I don't recall seeing any bullseye rash, yet the symptoms were a 100% match.

I actually have some tiny spots in my white matter... but according to the report, it's within the normal range. With contrast, they say it looks like something from migraines or microcirculation issues. My cervical and lumbar spine have degenerative changes, plus some thoracic kyphosis. Basically, nothing worrisome and nothing requiring treatment.

If you've actually had Borrelia in your system for a few years, your IgG antibodies should be high. But of course, someone will always claim the bacteria is hiding and that it's impossible to detect with any kind of test.
analogbison7 said:The bite happened back in May 2019.
About a month after the bite, this Borrelia rash popped up. I took antibiotics for it, just like I mentioned before. After that, I started feeling like I was constantly coming down with something—just this constant flushing sensation in my face. Then came the wrist pain, shoulder blade issues, a stiff neck, and pain right in the middle of my spine—those were my first symptoms, and they’re actually what drove me to start physical therapy.
Six months after the bite, I had an ocular migraine with aura and my left arm went paralyzed. (I rushed straight to the ophthalmologist since I'd never dealt with anything like a migraine before.) Turns out my eyes are totally fine. But ever since then, the headaches have been unbearable. It feels like my brain is literally going to explode. Honestly, it made me wonder why my MRI came back clean. I've had two episodes like that.
Since then, my head hurts pretty much all the time, even if it isn't always at that extreme intensity.
I'm getting super sensitive to smells and light now.
And the fatigue... it just comes and goes.
Then this past January, the muscle twitches started, along with bone pain in my knees, ribs, and collarbones. I've had tremors that lasted as long as seven days straight. I do think stress plays a part—I mean, I've been feeling terrible for nearly two years now and we still can't pin down what's happening. My life situation is actually great, so honestly, I don't have any other stressors that would trigger depression or anything like that.
The only reason I've managed to get any help at all is because of my private health insurance.

I can't see any other explanation besides that bite...
Unless there's something wrong with my spine.

Thanks so much for the replies.🙏

Maybe you didn't take enough antibiotics—I think the standard practice is usually about 3 or 4 weeks.
I don't know what else to do besides that positive Western Blot test. There are some other pricey tests over at ArminLabs, but almost everyone I know who went there ended up being a false positive. This whole Borrelia situation is just a complete mess. Good luck.
All these results look solid to me. A Western Blot for Borrelia is a much more definitive and specific way to go. If you're planning to get this done here in the States, I’d suggest using Labcorp—they send samples out for specialized testing and usually have a turnaround in about four days.

The weird part to me is that you already know you were bitten by a tick and finished your treatment. I find it hard to believe that symptoms matching neuroborreliosis would just suddenly flare up two years later. How did those symptoms actually start—was it triggered by stress or something else?

If we were looking at actual neuroborreliosis, there would be visible brain damage or some pretty bad indicators on your scans...

Regarding B12—it wouldn't hurt to bump that up to at least 500, but honestly, I doubt such a minor deficiency is what's driving all these symptoms.
analogbison7 said:Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could help me make sense of my lab results.
About two years ago, I got bitten by a tick and ended up with Borrelia. I’m living abroad right now—specifically in Sweden—and I was put on a 10-day course of Penicillin-based antibiotics.
Up until then, I didn't have any issues at all, aside from some kidney stones and being told I have Gilbert's syndrome (never actually had a genetic test done though).
Then everything changed—started with neck and spine pain, feeling flu-ish, and this flushing sensation in my face. I even had an ocular migraine with aura, and since then, the headaches have been absolutely brutal and won't quit. My shoulder blades lock up constantly too. Lately, over the last few months, I've been getting muscle twitching. Ugh, I won't go on forever... just a ton of symptoms. Honestly, I just feel terrible and weak overall.

They ran a Borrelia flagell CLIA test:
IgG 20 AU/ml <15
IgM 20 AU/ml <22

The doctors basically just said I was exposed but there isn't an active infection currently.

I know there are a massive amount of infections you can catch from a bite, but this whole thing feels like such a controversy.

Everything else looks fine on my other tests except for my Ferritin, and I'm a little worried about this Immunoglobulin M, so if anyone could explain that, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

You really ought to get a better Western Blot for Borrelia, along with some immunology work like ANA, RF, and anti-CCP, plus testing for EBV and thyroid antibodies. If you’re vegan, definitely check your B12 levels too.
I wouldn't jump straight to neuroborreliosis—it could be anxiety or depression, or maybe tied to autoimmune stuff like rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, or benign fasciculation syndrome.
From a neurological standpoint, it would also be smart to get an MRI of the brain and an EMG.
Also, watch out for those charlatans surrounding this disease who are just looking to line their pockets at private clinics with "alternative" treatments.
So basically, he's just some total creep... that zaw guy...
I’m honestly just gonna go take a massive dump on his hood as a protest—he really needs to be taken off the rotation.
So, who is this Zaw guy everyone keeps bringing up? Is he even a real person?
